Greg Fairweather - Bass Guitar
Greg Fairweather - Bass Guitar
Hi and thanks for checking out my channel!
I'm a professional musician originally from Canada now living in Norway.
My main instrument is the bass. I like to transcribe, practice, learn songs and improvise. I'm always learning new things and trying to get better at my craft. I also play piano, guitar and can hold a beat on the drums ;)

i played this in middile school. I love you so much for showing me how talented i actually was
haha...you still are ;)
Wow!! Thanks for that!!👏🏻👏🏻
You're welcome!!
Hi Greg. I dug this song up from five years back. What a find. What a lovely transcription and beautiful playing. Such a gorgeous song and exquisite bass. Makes my heart both cry and sing. It's given me a bunch to work on. Thank you so much. I am so grateful.
I'm so glad you've found the video and transcription helpful...thanks for letting me know :)
That’s a horrible song in my opinion, it’s doesnt blend with the lyrics, nearly impossible to Pat your feet to, let alone dance.Sounds better with the piano run, should have been instrumental
That triplets fill at 2:23 🔥
yeah...it's a good one eh? Thanks!
This is Mr. Osborn's masterpiece. Great cover of a virtuosic piece of bass playing. Thanks for the upload.
One of many masterpieces for Mr. Osborn....my pleasure. Thanks!
COOOOOOL!!!!!

One of THE great bass lines. You killed it, Greg! Bravo!! 🙌🏽

Nice cover my friend hopefully we get more Steely Dan covers in the future :)), I don’t know if you accept requests on YT but have you tried to do some covers on old Genesis stuff? Can barely find tabs/sheet music for the Lamb album

oh ya...I forgot that...hehe :)
Pretty sure it's actually against the law for any Steely Dan song to not have a great bass line.
haha...yes...except for Alaska and Hawaii :P
I just played Peg this week. Thanks for this weekend fun!
nice...have fun :)
I almost have the same bass made in America minus my pickguard. That's was great playing. You play great. As usual great music notation. Thx
Hey Frank, thanks man :) Is yours a '76 also? Original pickups?
@@BassCovers Thanks man! No, actually your bass is older than mine, 1976 is a great year for Fender. I have a 1999 Fender Jazz, blonde natural wood grain finish with the original pickups with the white pickguard that has the little black pinstripe on the edge of the pickguard with a rosewood neck. The standard design that came out with in that year, but the best thing of all it's made in America, it really makes a difference just because the parts and performance and whatnot, but some of these Fender's they make in Mexico now are built pretty well. By the way, I just want to say again; you play beautifully. I'm left handed and I play on right handed bass, but I tend to focus more on my left hand technique as opposed to my right which is not good. To be able to watch your KZread channel and check out how you use your right hand raking technique on the strings really helps me out with my own playing. And your song choices are all the songs I love and adore so far throughout my life. Thanks, Later!
Really good my friend!! Like n1
Hey Rick...thanks man...cheers!

@@BassCovers Eliot Lurie is such a kind fellow. I wrote him an email to an address I found online and asked him where i could find chord charts to Brandy and he actually grabbed a piece of paper and a pencil and wrote the song out and sent it to me.
Is there any chance you could do Isn’t It A Pity (Version One) by George Harrison? It’s genuinely one of the beast songs ever written and I can’t believe not one person has done the tabs to it yet. I’m a huge fan btw, you pretty much taught me how to play bass lol. Thanks so much!
I'll check it out...and thanks a lot! :)
so comfortable thank u!
You're welcome 😊
The band if from near where I currently live, so they were pretty big deal here when they were around
cool :)
❤❤❤
thank you :)
Excellent work!
Many thanks!
Hey Greg, I’d love to see your take on Tamsin Archers sleeping satellites. Would be totally awesome if you could fit this one in to your busy transcription schedule.
I'll check it out!
Bro. Awesome phase playing. Let me know if you ever need someone to do your drum backing tracks. 🦾😊
Thanks very much...I will! ;)
Great job,thank you man
My pleasure...thank you!
Great tune, great bassline. Awesome cover! Thanks!🤘
Thanks a lot!
Whew I'm learning this and it sounds so simple at first but it's not. Thanks for posting this.
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent. Thank You!
Hey Amalie, glad you liked it...thanks :)
Sir, you are unstoppable! Always great! Thank you, have a good one!
haha...thanks Lucas...cheers!
Nice job
Thanks a lot!
Greg what type strings to you use on your Fender? I really enjoy your lessons and transcriptions.
Thanks for the question and comment. I use "round wound" strings. It seems to be D'Addario most of the time, but it's usually which ever brand is the least expensive ;) I have a large pickle jar that I soak my strings with Methyl-Hydrate in. Hope that helps...thanks again :)
Thanks for this Greg! For some reason I had totally forgot about this song that I had loved so much when it came out. How was the show?
It was my pleasure. I've always liked this song too ;) The show was good up until it got rained out. He was sounding really good! Thanks :)
@@BassCovers Awe man sorry to hear that brother!! Thanks again for everything you do for the global bass community Greg (it is much appreciated)!!
I dont like 95% of country. But willie has always been one of my favorite artists from any genre. Just a ton of blues and funk influence all over this song
Tons of soul in this one for sure. A hidden gem for me. Thanks for the comment.
Hey Greg! I was wondering if you could do a cover of: I Can Sing a Rainbow/ Love is Blue by The Dells?
I'll check it out....thanks!
Hey Greg Thanks for covering the request!
No problem Russ...enjoy :)
Hi Greg and thanks. I haven't heard this song in years. It's poppy for sure. But it was tremendous fun playing it. Makes me smile. Now I have an ear worm though, with that rhythm going over and over in my head.
haha. Ear worm, I haven't heard that description before. I'm glad you enjoyed it...thanks!
I really admire what you do! I've been playing bass for almost 9 years now and you have GREATLY influenced me over the years. Thanks so much!
wow...thank you very much Demitri :) I'm almost speechless. All I can say is...keep it up and thank you! :)
On my way home from work, I played it and succeeded on the third try, the time it took to master the song.
Good for you Abdel...congrats!
You have a great taste in music and great tabbing skills. Thanks for this video. 👍
Thank you very much :)
