Hi and welcome to Amen Acres Homestead.
My wife and I created this channel to show different ideas on living a simple life. We are both in our mid 50s and want to help people to be more self sufficient and easier life. Also we will be putting in videos on diy projects and fun stuff in life.
Sound good, we ask you SUBSCRIBE and we will see you in the comments.

Great job! Check out watering times per MDC( mo dept conservation) I’m pretty sure they state it’s best to not water at night. Insects are drawn to it & it can cause roots to mold or become infected. Again thanks for the video.
Good to know!
I use a smoker to season.
Sounds like a cool idea.
What part of the country do you live ?
We live in the Midwest

👍👍..
Thank you.
Good job 👏
thank you very much.
Nice job.
Thanks!
Dear Sir, first, I have given this video a thumbs up, and subscribed, number 135. I really liked that you gave measurements and a cut list. Also I have never liked the "Burned" look, this is the nicest coloring I have ever seen. I wondered if it was caused by the fact that the wood you used was treated. It came out really well. That project can be done with recycled pallet wood too. I have plenty of that. On a totally different subject...I'm a register nurse who will retire in August. I have seen some terrible things that could have been avoided with a little forethought. Your beard is wonderful. I would only ask that you will find a way to keep it out of the way of things,...anything that rotates. Braid it or somehow keep it away from the power tools, even a hand held drill. Please be safe. My best to you and your family, Katie Anderson RN Windsor CT
Thanks for the advice i will look into that. We appreciate the subscription and the thumbs up. Yes pallet wood would be nice for this too.
Like your "pan hanger," setup. Solid and no-frills, it fits cast iron pots/pans perfectly.
Thanks, we do what we can where we are at. We just look out of the box for different ideas.
I'm not sure how such a quality video is not getting more views. Subscribed to your channel hope things take off
Thanks for the comment. we are working on it slowly but surly. 🙂
Parts list please
Cut List 2"x4" 2@59", 2"x4" 6@23", 2"x4" 6@14", 2"x4" 1@20", OSB board 1@26"x48", OSB board 1@11"x26". Sorry and I added the cut list to the description and i will try and add a note in the video. Thanks for watching. This next week I am going to make some wood planter boxes.
Good job and project thx for sharing enjoyed it Keep building God Bless
Thanks, I need to make some planters next. Keep watching, God Bless.
Looks great! That would go great in a bedroom or a shared living space area! New subscriber here!
Thanks for subscribing. Yes we have one in the bedroom and this one not sure where we will put it yet.
They could use a chop stick crutch.
That's cool. i like that idea. Thanks
The cheese was delicious! Thanks
Glad you liked it!
pleased for you reaching the first of what I hope are many more such milestones to come.
Thank You
What kind of wood was used for the Stain ?
The wood is pine and the natural stain i made allows the colors to come out.
Burning is the best way to damage your cast iron. Though that was bad enough, then you used a wire wheel. Lye will remove 100 percent of crud. You left old crud inside cooking area. You can do what you want to your pans, but please teach people the right way.
Thanks for the tip!
I wouldn't recommend leaving iron in vinegar for longer than one day I've found around 10-12 hours is plenty any more than that it will eat the good iron I've found too with the newer field cast iron a 30 min stack in vinegar helps the seasoning come out more even
luv the content, made the Banana Bread twice and obviously liked it. Keep it up, can't wait for the next vid.
Thanks, it keeps going.
Yes , looking at getting my first cast iron skillet, brilliant information
Glad to be of help.
The softener was a surprise. I never start my seeds early enough. I’ll try the heated cover on the bottom thanks for the heads up
Keep watching on videos i will give updates how the seeds are doing
I want to be able to re-season on the stove but I just got a new smooth top stove and don’t want to ruin it. I guess I could season it in the stove with an old rack I kept and put a large baking sheet Inder the pan? Paid to much to ruin my new top. lol. Could I do the same thing on a nuwave single induction burner? Thx
We have a glass top and do it on the top with no problem. You can season or re-season cast iron anywhere you can heat up the cast iron. The general Idea that it takes to season cast iron is you warm up the metal the pores open up and you interduces oil and when the metal cools back down the oil gets trapped and become hard and allows to be non stick. As for using the nuwave i would say give it a try i think it would work.
love the softener idea, will be trying it
Thanks
That looks so yumm with mashed potato and brown gravy😋😋 I love the idea of the bundt baking pan too !! Thank you❤
Thank you so much. It's nice to hear from you.
delicious
Thank you 😋
@@AmenAcresHomestead you welcome
How are you not burning your hand over that grill?
Well Indie I kinda wondered the same thing, and came to the conclusion that he must be a Trump supporter. no sense at all.
Thanks for your concern! I always make sure to use the right tools and practice safe grilling techniques to avoid any accidents.
He uses hand protection. Like pot holders or gloves.
@@colinvannbohemen11 We have made it a point to leave politics out of our channel and will thank you to do the same.
Nice job!
Thanks!
Thanks for the video. I have many old vintage cast iron skillets. I keep a lye bath and a vinegar bath in case I need them. I generally season cast iron in the oven, generally 4-6 coats of seasoning, then I use the skillet every day for the next 30 days. I make my own paste which I use to season my pans.
Cool, it would be nice to hear what your paste is made of.
My seasoning paste is made of locally sourced beeswax, organic avocado oil and organic safflower oil.
Thank you.
I am learning so many cool things !! Oh I bet it smelled divine in your house. Gonna try both recipes. Thanks❤
Thank you, yes it does especially when my wife is making bread.
Never tried Apple Jelly. I will😊😊😊
My mom used to make it a lot when I was a child, it's really good on warm biscuits, grapes cost quiet costly and had a hard time growing grapes, but we had apple trees so mom would make apple jelly and apple butter. It brings back memories for me. I have tried store bought jellies and they don't taste right. I plan on trying to use frozen orange/pineapple juice, I think I video it and see how it turns out.
Glad I found your youtube channel. I came here for cast iron seasoning but being a french medical Aromatherapist (essential oils) I think I ll adore your future vlogs. We all need to get back to normal life, normal food. God gave us everything and we all forgot about that. Blessed you both ! I just subscribed ! Love from France🇨🇵
Thank you so much. We have plans to keep sharing natural medicines. We could not agree more. We make soaps with essential oils and we plan to make soap in the near future. We are just hoping to help people be more self sufficient and healthy. We have been on this journey for years now. Bless your family also.
❤❤So much great ideas there!!❤❤ thank you. Hope you both had a blessed Christmas🎄
Tank you and yes we did spent time with family and took some time off work too. Hope you had a blessed Christmas.
Thank you !!
You're welcome!
Just realized you did a video about the wall...GREAT !! Thank you. Sebastian
Thank you so much, Sebastian! Your kind words mean a lot to me. I'm thrilled that you liked the video about the wall!
Thank you from France🇨🇵 Got my very first Lodge skillet at Christmas. I love everything coming from the US so really wanted to get rid of all my teflon pans and skillets. Your video will surely help me here. Done 4 seasoning so far and God I love my lodge now. I used canola oil coz that is all I had left but will definetly look for grapeseed oil. Got few question here...since french do not keep their lard fat (I will from now 😊) how long can it be stored and used? Other question I love love love how you displayed your cast iron skillets on your wall, what have you done so that your wall don't colapse coz that must be very heavy, right? Once again thank you..and..I almost forgot Happy New Year to you both !! Take care, Sebastian from Paris, France.
Thanks for the comments. I keep the bacon grease on the counter all the time, it will last for a long time have never had it go bad yet. As for the wall you can see that i reinforced the wall with 2x6s. I wanted the mounts off the black iron pipe to be screwed right into the 2x6.
He has a cool video showing step by step the reinforcement process of the Wall and the hanging pans.
