Schomburg Center

Schomburg Center

The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture located in Harlem, New York is a research unit of The New York Public Library system. It is recognized as one of the leading institutions focusing exclusively on African-American, African Diaspora, and African experiences. Begun with the collections of Arturo Alfonso Schomburg more than 85 years ago, the Schomburg has collected, preserved, and provided access to materials documenting black life-in America and worldwide. It has also promoted the study and interpretation of the history and culture of peoples of African descent. Today, the Schomburg continues to serve the community not just as a center and a library, but also as a space that encourages lifelong education and exploration.

To all the young people who might read this. There are no guarantees in this life. There are very talented people sitting on that stage. Yes. No doubt. They did the work and it paid off. Yes. Absolutely. However, their road to success is part of their journey but, it may not be yours. You have to find your own road. From what I understood. It took twelve to fifteen years for the creator to make his dream happen. While the director of the show nearly went homeless with his kids.I could tell by the sound their voices that the two of them really struggled. That is the true message of this interview.Create but, don't starve. Make sure you can take care of yourself in order to maintain your dignity and self respect. Otherwise, become canon fodder for ridicule and embarrassment in the years to come. The choice is yours.

Why can't she behave as if she is 22 years old or older. Why present yourself to the public as though you are 11 years old. Appearance, presentation and maturity means a lot. Mrs. Hurston was a mature woman wo presented herself that way. She was never child like even in her darkest days. Why are these people never given a speech coach, charm coach and more Change comes when blacks behave like mature adults, even black lesbians should be greater than a hat on the head and tennis shoes. The name is Tamara Hall. The Harlem swag is hood. She does not speak like a college graduate. She graduated from college at 19. Is that a 2 year college.

I want to see more diversity in this. Where’s all the white women and Asians at? Where’s the gays and trans at? Where’s the multi ethnic and the millions of gender roles in this? Y’all pushing “diversity” aka, blks, into everyone else’s projects except your own blk projects.

Jah & Jahes love. I LOVED much of what was said and discussed in this segment of the CBFS. And, I really appreciated Dr. Leslie Alexander's comments because I'm of Ayiti descent and appreciate the solidarity that African Americans felt with my ancestors. I'm also a descendant of African Americans who migrated to Ayiti during the early 1800s. I'm excited to watch and catch up with the past Season of CBFS and see you all in the Fall. Blessed love.#1804#Ayiti#ToutMounseMoun#AbolishCPS#AbolishPoverty#DefundFosterCare#ProChoice#RawVeganforLife#HRES40NOW#220YearsFREE#FreeAyiti#HandsOffAyiti

Jah & Jahes love. I very much enjoyed these presentations about Black Freedom, Food and Life, and Leisure. I wish that Dr. Breze Harper who spearheaded the Sistah Vegan movement had been invited. And, I also feel that there should have been some kind of discussion about Ayiti, the birthplace of Black Freedom, and how the newly freed Blacks enjoyed their lives. Blessed love.#1804#Ayiti#ToutMounseMoun#AbolishCPS#AbolishPoverty#DefundFosterCare#ProChoice#RawVeganforLIfe#HRESE40NOW#220YearsFREE#FreeAyiti#HandsOffAyiti
