    True. I took my Cadillac SUV for warranty service, dealer had replaced engine. 2 months later driving on a family vacation the water pump falls off. Turns out mechanic didn't torque bolts to correct specs. There goes another engine!!

    You'd have to take the whole thing apart to notice it and I was jammed up for time. Ideally you should take your care to a well known shop and not have to second guess their work 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Also, this is why they don’t want no one to see them working on your car and also they don’t even want you to inspect the work that they have done they just give you the car take your money And if you have any other problems, they charge you again and again and again and again

    What they did was barely put the bolt on and after a few miles it just came loose and you can tell that because the bolt will be lost and they will have to buy a new nut and washer

    Regarding tire shops. Seems like the alignment tech was at a higher level than the tire changers. Many times I used to get the line…”sorry my alignment guy isn’t available today”. Now the machines are easier to use and they just throw the tire kids on everything. That’s why I do my own

  • @fredkuhn165
    @fredkuhn16520 сағат бұрын

    I do my own alignments with a $200 tool. It sucks getting it perfect by driving it a few times to fine tune, but I’ve never had uneven tire wear or crooked steering wheel. One day 25 years ago, I changed some struts and my car was so far out, you could see the wheels were not parallel, so I had to get it closer at least. Never made it to the alignment shop and got 80,000 more miles on those tires. Always done it myself since

  • @HFG

    I changed out all of the bushings, ball joints and tie rod end. It needed a legit alignment after that. I don't have any of those tools.

    I bought a two post lift, tire changer and balancer combo. I have all of the pullers, 15 ton press, smart odb diagnostic meter that operates the abs brake system for one person brake bleeding. Recently bought a manual diy front suspension alignment kit that performs toe, caster and camber. I do all of my own work on our 5 vehicles. Anytime I need a tool, no matter the cost, I just buy it. You'll end up spending just as much for a lousy job by others. You Tube is a god send for instructional videos from master mechanics for common sense, tricks and what to avoid. Do yourself a favor and take care of your vehicles and home yourself. Better results and you learn about everything. No more dealers or contractors needed..

    Have you seen who is working at dealers now ?? It’s a joke. And it’s always either “ you have to sell your arm and leg to pay for this “ or “ hey we need your arms and legs b cause we can’t find the problem and we want you to pay us more to find it” scam artists. And the artists are the advisors it the the techs most of the time lol

    Yeah, the previous owner of my vehicle gave me the receipts for the work they had done by the "best" mechanic on the island. The guy cut corners everywhere. My favorite was that he re-used gaskeys by coating them with RTV. RTV on the re-used steel intake manifold gaskets. RTV on the brittle cracked valve cover gaskets. RTV on the hard, cracked oilpan end gaskets (actually shattered when dtopped from 3 feet). All of these gaskets are inexpensive compared to the labor to get to them and all of them are supposed to be installed dry. All of them leaked badly. Glad I do my own work.

    I tried 3 times to get my alignment done on my 03 Mustang, simple McPherson set up.. They couldn’t get it right and the 3rd time they had the tie rod end unthreaded so it was just held on by 2-3 threads.. Luckily I heard it making a creaking noise and the alignment still wasn’t straight so I got under there and did it myself.. It’s been perfect for 2 years.. That was Freedom Tire in Plaistow NH don’t go there, I almost feel like they did it on purpose as the were trying to buy my car while I was there..
