(posted on another video of the original track, but I liked this version and felt it applied here too) When my son was 2 months old, he had RSV. My wife and I tried our best to calm him and help him sleep, but it would only last for maybe 15-30 minutes at a time. After a few near-sleepless nights, I was halfway into another one with him crying in my arms. I was frustrated and tense and I was certain he could sense it, so I put on this track to help calm myself down. I stood in the middle of his room with only his rainbow night light on, hugging him with his head on my shoulder, and felt him fall asleep before the track was over. I stood for over an hour with him to make sure he was comfortable and stayed asleep... and he did. I have countless pictures and videos of him when he was an infant, but listening to this track makes me miss how little he used to be the most.

Changing the instrumentation in a piece like this, as in most of Feldman's, is not a daring and adventurous thing: it's just a foul mistake and a complete misunderstanding of Feldman. Unsurprisingly, this performance doesn't convey any of Feldman's sound and character. He once said something along the lines of 'sound is my religion' (I forgot the exact quote): how can you play his music if you don't understand and respect his sound?
@rogerantonybennett52722 жыл бұрын
It is not the greatest piece of OCARINA playing, but I like the sonority & I love this piece. Feldman is not a religion, he was an artist. He was warm towards students playing his music. That's enough for me & I'm very grateful for any further performances !
@JustinFriello10 ай бұрын
I’m with you. Feldman was very specific about his timbres, especially in a piece like this where the changing of timbre with each repetition is the crux of the piece. And the celesta is right behind the pianist, why not use it for the opening and closing chords? This performance, to me, is a fundamental misunderstanding of this piece.

A travesty. Feldman's scoring was very clear. This ensemble thinks it knows better. Playing is slack across the board.

I agree. It's mechanical. Like they are only extracting the piece note-by-note instead of creating a unified movement. There is presently a nice posting by a Pupi di Zuccaro on KZread here ((Starts and ends with a celesta.). However he does not inform us of the performers names.
@JustinFriello5 жыл бұрын
I absolutely agree. First off: there’s a Celesta right behind him: why wouldn’t you play the opening chord on it? And secondly, this piece is almost entirely about orchestration. In fact, Feldman’s entire output is about orchestration. Who thought it was a good idea to do this?
