Johnny seems like a really good guy.. You can feel his passion for music.. When you got him into the younger years growing up.. He was smiling ear to ear, remembering those things. Great interview

Gilby hasn't changed much at all. He is the dedicated young man I met late one night in a small 8track recording studio, Opus One in old Torrance back late 1970's. Here was this young kid with a pocket of money from some minimum wage job, touting a well used guitar, I think a Duo Sonic. He was focused on his own solo sessions recording when he could , his own written material and not the style that was trending at the time. He was rough but what made him special he was eager to learn the studio and he progressed so fast . The studio owner/ engineer and I enjoyed watching him develop these few songs he was recording then. We couldn't be prouder seeing him play with GnR and on to so many other gigs. Gilby believed and stuck with what he liked and look how far he's gone...😎

One terrific interview, Todd! I'm a die hard Stryper/Michael Sweet fan from the mid 80's. Not only incredibly talented, but also the most genuine and down to earth guys in the world! And, as a fellow Saskatchewan boy, I hope to meet Todd one day as well. Also an amazing musician!

I went to Middle school and High School w Howard. He was a superstar THEN. I used to watch his band “The Zoo” rehearse at Robertson Playground on Robertson and Airdrome in west LA. The night after my father was murdered in Feb. 1970 I was riding my bicycle around and stopped at this community center across from Hamilton high school and there was Howard sitting all by himself playing Jeff Beck’s acoustic guitar arrangement of “Greensleeves” note for note .

I am blessed to be a good friend of Howard and his family. I live in Chatsworth Lake Annex near Valley Circle and Box Canyon. The fire started at the top of Woolsey Canyon a mile away thank god the wind was blowing away from us. I called Howard and told him the fire was headed his way and said he could use my truck if needed, that was the last time I heard from him for weeks. I finally was able to drive to his home and what I saw made me sick to my stomach. One thing he did not mention is in all of that rubble they found Rada's wedding ring. Their new home is absolutely beautiful. Howard and his family are some of the nicest people you could ever know...

my biggest regret is when Gilby came to Little old Red Deer alberta and played at a bar here. I had the opportunity to easily go and see him and i opted out! Todd Dammit!! lol That at the the time would of been the 3rd member of GNR i would have seen. I shook Slashs hand in Edmonton and ran into Axl in edmonton also at west edmonton mall!

Gilby is truly a good guy. Never seems to have anything bad to say about anyone, and a great musician. Anyone that could learn the entire Guns n Rose's library in 2 weeks, with a large part of hadn't even been released yet is nothing short of amazing. It really shows the talent and abilities Gilby has as a guitar player. How many guitar players, then or now really able to do that? Always pleasent always smiling 😎🎸

It's interesting how the other guys from the original lineup only blame the girls, when in reality they decided to leave after some creative difference (only Roger was fired for his destructive behavior). But the other guys love to say that the girls sold their souls and blah blah blah. I always thought that for Howard to stay with them, being an objective witness to what had happened, he had to know that it wasn't all the girls' fault. Listening to him describe how upset Nancy was, that she got up and left the rehearsal (which was in her own house)😁, I see that they did try to defend their compositions, their essence, their belief. But the bigger the label, the more money they invest and the more power they take. It's a reality, ask The Bangles. In the 80s, music had changed, and if they had not adapted they would have disappeared. I think that with the original lineup, Heart would not have survived the 80s. Ann, Nancy and Howard carried Heart into the next millennium.
