I started reading this in 9th grade about79 and I wish I could have coupled it with audio but... It wasn't really invented yet. Of course my favorite parts were the Appendices.

If I were to suggest when to start a TV series of the Silmarillion, I'd begin here with the Unchaining of Melkor, and leave any necessary earlier portions to flashbacks. It's with the Melkor's freeing that the plot really moves into gear.

It's sad to see the early complaints of the Numenoreans. "Why not go and greet our friends?" It's like a child wondering why they can't visit their grandparents who live five hours drive away, and their parents having to explain that they're busy doing the stuff that puts food on the table. To think some innocent questioning was the start to a slide into the worst fall in literature since Paradise Lost. Also, its fascinating to consider how the Numenoreans helped men to advance and start pushing back the darkness. I see a lot of fanart and speculation based on their adventuring or the last years under Ar-Pharazôn, but I wouldn't mind something of them teaching the ancestors of the Bree men and Rohirrim how to cut wood or ride horses.

This is ONE of my favorite stories from the Silmarillion. If that epic tale was ever to made into film, this would be, at least, the third, and greatest story of that saga, after The Children of Huron. And, the songs of the Ainur. To make a film into a trilogy of movies, would fall so unjust to Tolkien's legacy. I hate to think the film-makers of the future would give so less than a series of at least six films. What Director/Producer, would want to limit their career to so few films, when the Master of fantasy has given us so much to work with? I hope to see this "Magna Opus" of 20th century literature before I die. But not to see it produced in haste, and fall short of our expectations. But to see it made into a film as Tolkien had spent so many years writing it. Though the "Children of Huron" could be made into wo films. We fans will buy tickets to all those films. Do it, and do it well! The appropriate film makers are sitting on a gold mine, far greater than they can ever imagine. If you don't know how to start this adventure, than just ask me. I will guide you all the way.

Let this story rest, and come to be adapted in a time where creators are more concerned with creating beautiful things, and not ideological messages. The story, if told faithful, would be considered old-fashioned in todays world; the main characters are virtuous and beautiful, and yet people today crave for "morally-grey" chracters, and are offended at the sight of beauty.
