Emerson, Lake and Palmer

Emerson, Lake and Palmer

Formed in 1970, Emerson, Lake & Palmer helped define and set new standards throughout one of the most ambitious and experimental periods in 20th-Century popular music. Drawn from The Nice, King Crimson, and Atomic Rooster respectively, they were hailed as progressive rock’s first supergroup. Combining driving dynamics, intricate arrangements, and virtuosic skill, between 1970 and 1978, ELP released seven studio recordings and three live albums. Such was their popularity on both sides of the Atlantic that their records repeatedly achieved Platinum status sales.

At age 72 wish I could go back to the 1970's. Still have the original album. There is no going back. The grave awaits us all.

Very few musicians can play such complicated material live with almost zero mistakes. Most bands need heavy post production prior to release a live album. When ELP were at their peak they were unbelievable.

And the tragedy that Keith Emerson and Greg Lake passed away within about a year of each other🥀 All these years later folks are saying Hey, theses guys were great musicians! Hell yeah! Keith Emerson took his own life at 71 years old because he developed a neurological condition that prevented him from playing the piano. He didn’t deserve to be in the fatuous rock and roll hall of fame? This man was a keyboard virtuoso. He loved music. Not to be disrespectful, we’re not talking David Lee Roth. Sadder still, Greg Lke died March 2016; Keith’s Emerson took his own life December, 2016. Go ahead, piss on prog rock, but don’t forget who you’re pissing on🥀

1973 was a great year at the Salt Palace. I got to see so many but ELP was unforgettable . I got into building so many sound machines and a few guitars. Today at 68 electronic music is something I still do. The microchips can do so much in a small space where I had bedroom size gear back then.

A quick death is a lucky death sometimes. Many people suffered for decades and then die. That's much worse. In the coming big war that is WW3 the quickest death is the best you can get. Dying from radiation sickness for days, weeks or months is much worse. Surviving in a shelter for months and then dying due to hunger or thirst is unlucky too. Surviving in a long term shelter that can provide for generations for many people seems to be not that bad. But considering human nature, the descendants of the survivors after 1000 years will be very different from us.

I was 13 in early 1971 when I first heard the Moog section of this song on the radio and I was immediately sold on ELP, synthesizers and Prog overall. Keith Emerson, The Maestro, became - and will always be - my music idol. The fact that ELP is not in the RRHOF is no longer as insulting as initially was because the Hall has long forgotten its roots. The anti-establishment hippies are now running the joint in the name of commercialism and money. ELP will always stand tall on their own considerable merits. 🎹🎸🥁
