I should have said to blow the headers through with an airline before refitting to get rid of debris. sorry about that 👍
Thanks Duncan I’ve had aftermarket headers crack on me before so I’m definitely sticking with ported oem ones
Yeah same. Cracked loads of sets of gt spec headers from various sources.
Old NASIOC threads say you can do the same in the mid and uppipe unions.
hi. Yes you can. The main restrictions are the ports that mate to the heads. If you are aiming for high bhp then that is worth it 👍👌
Good stuff. The receiving end of other stock exhaust parts are also porting (or at least de-lipping) candidates. Eg at the bottom of the up-pipe you can see heat discolouration where more of the gas flows on the outside of the bend. The inner metal sleeve can have its 90 degree edge smoothed at that point. The top of the up-pipe is usually narrower than the entry to the turbine housing, so nothing to do up there.
Good points 👌
Nice one buddy. I shall have to get you to sort mine out prior to a return to the Ring (travel 5th, chill 6th, full days 7/8th Sept)
Cool 😎
We did back to back testing and we found it an absolute waste of time and effort.
By what data did you reach that conclusion? Peak power on a dyno for example?
It depends on the power level 👍
Did this on my previous 2 classics and noticed an improvement on spool and power, now I have a spec c, I feel slightly seen off by not being able to get easy gains anymore!
GDB? some of the best flowing factory headers, good for 500+ whp I was told.
Yep gdb, no point in changing them at my power level.
They still have this overlap and build up of back pressure issue that causes burnt gases to back up into the cylinders at around 400 bhp. It limits the power.
Would you see any Benefits doing this running under 400bhp?
probably improvements to spool and top end power
Probably some. I will be getting this car back o the dyno soon to see if any improvement around 340 bhp 👍
One would think that anything helping the engine pump air more efficiently is a good thing. The lip on the exhaust manifold would be causing an immediate restriction on hot gas exiting the combustion chamber, so a fairly important area. Not everything is measurable by peak dyno power comparison. Usually dynos have a slow ramp-up and (at peak power) the wastegate is open , so inefficiencies are being covered-up a bit. Testing Brake-specific fuel consumption before and after porting would probably reveal more.
How far down would you blend into the runner ?
Not far down tbh... The main restrictions are at the entry point 👍
@@racedynamix any reason/gains to be had by doing this kind of porting on any of the other parts of the OEM manifold? Cross pipe, up pipe?
@@_Hani_26 it depends on your power target tbh. Those restrictions are much less but all counts if aiming for 600bhp.
Did this as well after seeing your other video awhile back. Honestly not hard to with a dremel and carbide bits. Did slip a few times a knicked the mating surface. I did use a pressure washer for a few minutes to flush out sll the shavings before installing.
Dejavu I’ve just spent two days doing the exact same thing installed a grim speed up pipe and all new gaskets with a 3”turbo back exhaust love the scooby rumble . And just painted my forester sf5 sturbo Rivera blue Porsche colour with speedline mistral wheels .in my pic
Really cool colour 😍
@@racedynamixthank you 👍 goes well with the wrx gold speedlines I think. 4yrs in the making
Advance multipler will be having a great day 😂
I don't have steady hands 😂....this is going to be a job. I'm going to get booked with you soon. I'll happily sort out my maf scaling.
Cool 😎
Definitely think mines doing this but not as bad. 250k kms and there’s a lovely metallic rattle between 2-3k rpm. No knock or fine knock and the det cans sound clear unless I’m deaf.
I am looking to add 3-port to my setup, I am new to tuning so it will be interesting and your content is the best to start learning! thank you Duncan
Welcome aboard ... glad you found the channel. There is a lot of info in here and also memberes only videos where much more detail is covered in self tuning along with a discord group for discussion.
Thanks for the info. Where/how do you route into the cabin?
@@simpsonsdotcom I feed them under bonnet and up and round into passenger window 👍
@@racedynamix up by the hinge or though the hood scoop?
@simpsonsdotcom up near the hinge 👍
lol I thought my subie had the only engine that looked like it had been in the ocean. Anyone know if there is a wash for this. Besides acid
lol. yeah it was a state 🤣 engine is out now and all bits that are getting resumed will be aqua blasted 👍
Can you fit a 3 port without mapping the car after ?
I wouldn't recommend it. It will build boost easier and could easily overboost. best to get the map changed 👍
Can't wait for this video to come out. Please list all the mods when it does!
I certainly will to the best of my knowledge 👍😎
It's a beautiful color. Is it Aston Martin F1 color?
Hi Keith. I think it is an original colour from Porsche. I agree it is a beautiful colour 😍
When's this getting mapped Duncan? I wana be there that day and see it happen.
I'll let you know Zaid 👍
Looking Forward to this, when you mapping it?
By any chance do u have any old videos of Ur time attack car from knockhill back in the day.
yeah mate..scroll back through the old videos on here. There is one 👍
Be interesting to see how that manifold performs, good job winters coming 😂
@@chris-tx5rb yeah it looks fab but I am unconvinced on it or the need for it. We will see shortly 😎
My jdm does this too. Why do Japan tables have these dips?
yeah it's weird... I can only put it down to laziness for the oe map creators.
Thanks for that useful info. I'm mapped on V-Power. I requested a backed off 380bhp as my local Shell station is in a small town on the A40. It's been recently taken over by Asda (Euro Garages), and is much busier now as the prices have dropped significantly so the fuel now seems fresher. Didn't know about it but I will try some ESSO 99 when I find it. So this is all very helpful. Best wishes.
my pleasure sir and thanks for the super thanks 🙏🙏
Is it possible to make a tune in ECUFlash and upload it to Accessport? Or No
if your cars ecu is paired to access port it won't let you. You would need to unpair the access port and start from a base map. Hth 👍
@@racedynamix It does and dosnt lol. I hate to get rid of it. The burn of that money being flushed.
Q 6 speed STi 'shifter rattle' (GRB STI spec c ) I've replaced all the transmission bushes and installed a Cobb reverse pull up ring that was claimed to fix the issue, it still rattles... You've fixed the GR stutter and the cold stumble in the 15min since I've found the channel, keen to hear your thoughts on the rattle. Stoked to find your channel, you have a new subscriber
that's very kind of you to say. tbh I haven't experienced the 'rattle' but will endeavour to find out what it is and what the solution is for you 👍
JDM spec c, same problem (along with the GR stumble) I thought these were all issues with just my car! Looks like my tuner is getting another video 😂
lol. Yeah 😎😎
Every subaru I have owned has this issue. So over Subaru's
Hi... has had what issue ?
Yeah mines in the 3000 to 3500 range, right pita, will send this to my tuner, drop in for a tweak and hopefully be rid of it, cheers!
👍👍
will any wideband work or does ecuedit only support aem uego
they are a few different types of wideband that it will support. Best to check the software for the list tbh 👍
Thank you for sharing your experiences, you are a very good person❤
thank you Evgeny 🙏🙏
Yeah..warmup table in jdm is pretty lean as like they want to give time on slightly longer cold idle clearing snows on the car before start moving (in japan obviously) Meanwhile in malaysia we didnt have this issue from hotter climate... Apart if we were staying overnight on top of cold mountain with sub 20 degreeC temp in cold heavy rain morning...
Any chance your coming to Scotland anytime soon? Best Subaru tuning channel on KZread great work 👍. My car is my pic
thank you very much Liam. Glad you enjoy the content 😎 Just trying to do videos that would be useful to the Subaru world. Scotland... I haven't any plans unfortunately .. but if there were a few of you then I am sure I could make the trip up 👍
I did not expect that much of a difference. WOW
👍👍
In the age of content creators, one man did the unthinkable...share wisdom. This is the story of that man
lol. Thank you .. I think 😁😂
Feel great after smoothing out the maps.
you did it in yours ?
@@racedynamix yes
Adjust the maps on my 2017 Levorg and it fixed it. I adjusted 3 other maps that were the same. Thank! Just need to fix the rough idle at cold start now.
Cool 😎 The lambda sensor on jdms are slow to wake up so it could be that it's running a little lean until it does ..check with a wideband 👍
@@racedynamix Ok. I will have to see if I can find one.
@@racedynamix which map would I add fuel to? There are 4 warm-up enrich maps. Enrich homogen TGV open and closed and Stratified TGV open and closed.
I'm curious now.I pulled up my rom.I have that same dip.Should I adjust it in mine?
I will for you Joe in the next iteration 👍
This probably because japan imported cars are run on a 99 ron fuel base as opposed the uk 95 ron. High Ron protects against knock, so they are probably tuned leaner than uk cars.
Both target same 14.7 Afr. The warm up strategy is different 👍
Thank you for this. I've been having this issue with my jdm xt but I couldn't find any information about it. Then a few minutes ago I see this video recommended to me
As if by magic 😁😁
my mitsubishi mirage does this
interesting..not just a subaru thing then
