I produce videos on model trains, particularly HO and N scale, with a focus on building small and portable train layouts. I generally sell the small layouts that I build, so feel free to contact me if you are ever interested in eventually purchasing a layout that I am currently building. I'm also working to improve my tutorials on scenery, structures, and other types of modeling work.
Thanks for watching!

america doesn't have sets you can buy and operate even if you have to buy it from a forien country
Awesome 👍👍👍!!!
What manufacturer locomotive is this? I’m very interested in this scale, but clueless about locomotives available!
It is a Bachmann unit.
Wow!!! Great project!!! Good job!.
Very nice small layout. Are you able to load the gondola's from the two small chute's?
I thought about that and originally had the chute doors operational, but then I glued in some of the rock into the bin and so they are basically glued shut at this point.
I love these tiny layouts! Beautiful work.
Product description at Z Track Center for the little RC02 says it is a Z scale item, and not for N scale, but I see you're using it for N just fine. Good to know. ZTrack Center is asking $42.85 for it (June 30,2024).
Yeah, it works fine for N scale. You have a lower top speed with N scale because the voltage isn’t as high with z scale so I think it is limited to 10volts out or something like that. Doesn’t matter in practice unless you want your train going fast.
I checked Z Track on June 30th, 2024, and found they now are asking $88.75 for the RC03 two way controller. Quite an enormous rise from the price you showed us, Steve. Okay, everybody, no need to start political ranting about inflation. This is a fun filled model train video.🙂
So now you need a follow up on how well it actually shipped. Did it arrive in one piece at the final destination? Which carrier did you (they) use? Hot shot service or commercial freight line?
It did arrive ok luckily! Pickup and delivery were a business day late (they had a truck liftgate issue on pickup day) but otherwise shipping went ok. I used Shiply to get quotes and picked LTL shipping out of the dozen quotes I had. Not the cheapest option but the lowest cost carrier that had good reviews.
Super cool video. Thanks.
Is the product actually called “ choo choo camera ?”
Great info! I've put some on my Christmas list. Hopefully my kids will decide on that one.😁
I operate a three rail O switching layout and love it. The remote uncoupling at the locomotive really enhances the fun. Some carefully placed remote track sections can allow for uncoupling within a consist without the need to reach into the layout. Be careful, O scale can be addicting. 😂
but... How does one capture video to a file? This was the biggest flaw when I looked at CCV cameras a year ago. They proposed some freeware video capture software which did not work. Has anything changed? -Ron
Yeah, you have to use some kind of capture software or do what I did and just record the screen. You can use a higher resolution and maximize the video to fill the screen and then just record the screen. That method works on a tablet or phone as well.
Feeling good collet well-done.
I bought a code 55 Atlas flex track but my train cant run on it because the flanges hits the ties plates. I'd have to replace all the wheels for more prototypical wheels. Atlas code 70 looks much more realistic in terms of rail height and runs my train great.
True, I forget atlas has that code 70 track. It does look nice too.
Banana scale?
Standard unit of measurement. Lol
Years ago a built a small 4x8 room addition to my house and build an American Flyer shelf layout along the two adjoining walls that didn't have doors.
feeling good T Scale models.
Just when I thought I could take a break from spending money.
It is never ending. I want to get one of these for my channel now…..
Too many toys available!
Do they make these cameras for G scale?
You can use them in any scale. You can either just stick them on the front of your locomotive or try to install them on the interior with a hole for the lens to look through.
This just makes me want to get into building and selling model layouts...
I am thinking of getting one of these with the cabled camera to mount inside the O Gauge Heljan Class 60 to give a view of the engineer/drivers view on my layouts which would be my small Hermes Road layout and then my O Gauge Garden Layout. I want to achieve something like the cabview on Train Simulator Classic if that makes sense. Great video and thanks for this.
I actually have two of this cameras, but 1st gen. I stopped using them due to other things. Watching your video made me think of them, but I wonder if a software update would be enough to improve the performance of gen 1 cams. I will have to get to ChooChoo and check. Thank you for a wonderful video. Very informative and fun.
Dear Steve, don’t remember if I saw your first vid on these cameras. The possibility to see several angles at the same time is definitely a great idea and improvement. Also like that option where you wired the front camera on the locomotive from the flatbed car. That kind of flexibility makes this system stand out. Especially when folks wanna disguise whatever camera to get even more realistic looking pictures. Cheerio
This isn't simply awesome - This is awsome covered in AWSOME SAUCE. Thank you so much for your research and sharing. Scale Rail Ray heading back to the roundhouse...
I don't know if it's focus or resolution, but the videos are still not very sharp.
I wasn’t at the highest resolution and the cameras have a set depth of field, so you have to decide where you want your focus point to be. Because you are getting a real time feed to get WiFi, you can’t do as high a resolution as you can do with a camera recording to an SD card. I was streaming three cameras at once using my iPad as a hotspot, so I didn’t push the resolution as high as it will go.
Just in time , I'm looking for a camera for my model layout .
"Say hello to my little friend" Scale is just a matter of zooming out and with the limitations of space z scale is actually the closest modelers can get to spatial realism. I'm really impressed with this Rokuhan stuff, all I had seen before was Marklin Z and it looked toyish.
Marklin are the best in this scale..
I’ll need to try some marklin equipment out sometime.
I truly hate the vertical videos for they significantly detract from the quality of the visual aspects, and beyond that, they feel totally unnatural, and uncomfortable! This is especially of this type of video, a model train layout which would look so much better if only filmed in landscape mode, similar to how our horizontal eyes were designed! kzread.info/dash/bejne/lpmXytihkpOzldI.html
I don’t like vertical videos either, but shorts have to be vertical, so it is what it is. There is a normal horizontal version of this one. For a lot of them I just use Opus Clip to automatically generate shorts out of my full length videos.
With respect to everyone - G gauge is the only way to go if you have the room/space. G gauge is GREAT!!
Sadly, it seems to be so small that building a high quality layout with it seems to be just too difficult to be practically achievable. Having watched the skill and care required even to build an 'N' gauge layout, I'm not surprised.
Hi Steve, Where did you get the lighted Christmas tree?
Honestly, can’t remember. I think it was from model train stuff, but it was a couple of years ago, so not 100% sure.
Really appreciate you making this video, as I have been wanting to build my first HO scale layout. * subscribed *
Ok I have 10 of these cameras on my layout...and for the most these cameras are awesome! The most important thing you must do to have a great quality video is have your router close by. It's wifi cams so the closer the router the better. Second you make sure your track is clean...very clean! Third these cameras are real time cams no delays...You have to slow your trains down for a quality video.
I have a new video coming out this Tuesday with them showing the multi-cam views and higher resolution sensors. What I do now is connect everything to my iPad (using it as a hotspot). I get great signal strength and video quality that way since I can keep the iPad nearby in the garage.
In addition to your usa and Europe listings would you consider adding some Canadian resources? By the time shipping and duty is added to the order the cost of that is often more than the value of the item.
Sure, I’ll see if I can find some. Pass any along you know of.
Thank you for your work on this! I’m getting into my first layout and this will be extremely helpful.
Thanks for this!
May i add one factor...ERA...if you want to do steam , especially pre-1910, that would be a HUGE factor in picking scale...but otherwise really good video!
What abt a G scale?
I have another video comparing G, O, S, HO, TT, N, Z, and T
I model in 1/29 Scale. It is the best there is.
Cool mate...where do we find your prices, please?
you know there is a smaller scale and I couldn't belive it t scale umm come on gets any smaller i am going into live steam help oh by the way watch Bill Everett's trollie layout all scratch built
Yep! And I have a couple videos on T gauge including a layout on a hat that I built. Crazy small stuff!
I got the train controller yesterday that’s an exact one. How does it work for you? I wanna know before I install it. I could return it if it doesn’t work.
I haven't used it much, only a couple of times (this set is currently packed away until I get around to building a small garden railway), so i can't speak too much about it given my limited use, but it worked well enough.
I'm looking at building a Z-scale layout. I'm wondering on the compatibility of running MTL Micro-Trains engines and cars on Rokuhan track and if you can get couplers to use both brands of engines and cars?
track is no issue. I haven't had any issues with coupler compatibility thus far, but my experience is still limited and I haven't tried that much stuff out yet in Z scale so I can't say for sure if there are issues or not. I'm guessing it is similar to N scale where you can pretty much get everything to work together, but things work better overall when using the same brand of coupler.
@@StevesTrains Thank you.
Awesome video Steve - perfect for somone setting up first layout and each would have its own cost options from budget to more expensive and flexible vs very permanent.
This is fantastic. Thanks.
HO is the way to hobby
