I have one word for Coach Vachini, ""Tenacity," I can clearly recall him tasking us with being tenacious, in the huddles during basketball games at High Junior High School, in Novato. It is only in listening to this interview I realize this must have been one of his first jobs, as a recent graduate of SSU. This would be been 1967 through 1969. I also did not know we shared being Cossacks, as I graduated from SSU in 1982. The Expressive Arts Department guided me in my working in performing and creating poetry with people living with dementia. In founding the Alzheimer's Poetry Project, not a day goes by where i don't use the lessons I learned from Coach Vachini, on teamwork, but especially I took to heart his speeches and pep talks on the benefits of Tenacity. So happy you posted this interview and for his work on the history of Sonoma State Athletics. If you are able please pass on that Gary Glazner says hello. My email is [email protected]. Thank you!
