Cambridge History Faculty

Faculty of History, University of Cambridge

The Faculty of History is one of the largest history departments in the world. Over one hundred people pursue teaching and research within the History Faculty and Colleges of the University, as University Teaching Officers (UTOs), College Teaching Officers (CTOs), Junior Research Fellows (JRFs), or Post-Doctoral Fellows. In addition, we have close links and share teaching with colleagues in other Faculties and Departments, for example Classics, Politics and International Studies (POLIS), Divinity, History and Philosophy of Science (HPS), and Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic (ASNC). Historians based at the Fitzwilliam Museum and University Library also regularly contribute to our teaching. However, the majority of lectures, supervisions and classes are given by UTOs and CTOs in the Faculty (around 50 and 30 respectively).

Something that I find remarkable is how Sanaullah Makthi Thangal's pamphlet titles had a very arabic touch to it in terms of poetic names. Unlike English, almost all the works of classical arabic scholarship have this naming pattern. Some random examples === Umdat al-Salik wa Uddat al-Nasik (Reliance of the Traveller and Tools of the Worshipper) === Radd al-Muhtār ‘ala al-Durr al-Mukhtār (Guiding the Baffled to The Exquisite Pearl) ==== Thangal's titles choices rhyming manapoorva moshanam with avakasha poshanam and Thandan konda chenda have a definite poetic touch to these.

Hello, 🐦🥀🌹May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED." 🌹🏵🌸God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people and went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?

If you have the power to 'over-write' then are you not being blind to your privilege & hegemonic claims which you want imposed on rest of the people via state's coercive power ?

I,Suresh Kumar.t.k.,do appreciate the attempt by the Research Scholar,Mr.Chandu in bringing to the notice of an Intellectual world community of researchers: "the life & activities of Comrade R.SUGATHAN in twentieth century" at Alappuzha in southern India. I ,in my school days; had the opportunity to meet this selfless Revolutionary trade union & Communist intellectual ,while he used to come and stay at my Ancestor house at "Kuttanadu ;the paddy cultivation land in Alappuzha ,Kerala .I would like to add here ,from my personal knowledge watching him closely that "the Simplicity & revolutionary life style of Comrade R.Sugathan was incomparable with that of the present day powerful Communist politicians in Kerala" (which ofcourse is one of the reasons of decline of communist movement in India ). Congratulations Chandu for presenting R Sugathan before such an August Audience.

I was a History undergraduate in the 1970s and spent quite a lot of time in this building, which I have always thought of as both hideous and impractical. It was too cold in winter (when the outside staircases were particularly treacherous) and too hot in summer. The acoustics were terrible -- in some lecture rooms you would be getting the benefit of the lectures in the rooms on each side as well.

It has qualities of a greenhouse - splotchy sloped glazing with hot spots and lots of glare.
