All the professors had classes??? Wow. One would suppose: a) professors should know priorities, b) professors should have some courage or c) professors should at least be honest with their students. Very classy from Yanis to not comment on that.

I quit wearing clothing with visible/prominent logos in the 80s because I refuse to advertise for these companies unless I am being paid for my labor (as a model). Clearly, my protest did not work. Billions of people are still doing the work of advertisement for the companies who produce their clothing.

Awesome. Extraordinary. Simple: The business model of the planet is Debt. Debt underlies every part of our society - law, peer science. etc. Our reality would be different with Debt. Think about this: It looks like we have had debt and interest since the Code of Hammurabi. Its the only institution that survived to today.

Capitalism is like cruise control on an electric vehichle, "the more you get used to it, the more power you want to go further"..... Corporatisation is incestuous political control, " once Corporate culture has fuked the economy, it needs to fuk political control. The seperation of powers serves as a very integral part of political power both Russia and China observe the State as the Ultima Arbiter, the political process is generally a no go zone of none interference, a typical example of what goes wrong in the American Political system is both Seperation of Power is not observed and Big Corporations are assured fiscal economic advantages, wealth creation by reducing tax exposure, regulatory conformity and consistency, even market competition, the US Government no matter the politics is a major shareholder in a parallel economy (eg Bailouts), its stake is a Corporate Entity a type of allegiance to Team USA. Examine Big Pharma, or the US Arms Industry, the real cost is insurmountable, to future generations of Americans its not just 36 trillion debt, it is the absolute impoverishment of so many future generations. 🎉

There is nothing wrong with capitalism. The problem is 1. fraud and criminality. 2. All economic systems require proper regulation, even lefty systems. Trying to regulate the interests of society through economic theory is pissing into wind. Varoufakis does not mention these two factors. Capitalism requires laws, regulation in the interests of society, whether that means the Glass Stegal laws or the Swedish approach to wage structure.

Tell people to stop buying anything (except extreme necessities) until capitalism is dead. Capitalists think it’s right to give all the money to a few rich people, and leave billions to starve to death. Read about the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which really hurt profits and we’re even just making even, for 18 months during the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement, and it ended the rule that black people had to give up their seats to white people. So yes, general strikes do work. Way back in the day, many stay-at-home moms were given the chance to start their own business selling Avon, and their husbands were the main bread-winners, who worked for corporations but weren’t paid enough to get by. And many people resented women trying to sell makeup, even to their own relatives, because they said “she’s just trying to get rich selling things to relatives”. So they were supposed to buy only from corporations, and husbands were told that “if you work 40 hours a week for 40 years, you can retire” which sounded great. But then after working for 39 years the corporations said “many people will be retiring, and we’ll still have to pay them retirement benefits, plus keep paying newer employees with the same promise! So FIRE quite a few before they can retire.” Even if the employee had a great idea or ideas that helped the corporation make billions, they could fire them! There has never been any good come out of the wage slave system called capitalism! It’s all been subtle lies. And anyone can get too sick to ever work again, so when you need lots more money you will get fired and have no money!

Lol you are both hilariously accepting the ridiculous notion your only power in the system is as a consumer. And thinking that you and your fellow poors refusing to buy matters at all. The actual big businesses don't sell jack to you. at best you are just one of the inputs they have to sell.

Capital never overthrew rent completely. Indeed, in the periphery (which provides key natural resources without which capital wouldn't exist), the logic of rent is arguably dominant.

The biggest failure of the French revolution is they never went after the landlords. Landlords are one of the last holdovers of feudalism.

All governance will descend into oligarchy, plutocracy and fascism at rates that are determined by the quality and stability of its consensus seeking strategies, the tolerance of bad faith actors in its processes, its best practices policies and the documentation of data that goes into the making of its policy choices. They cannot be compared outside that framework in regard to speed of that descent. Consensus seeking strategies are what create the possibility of a society. Anything less creates a war zone. As such these are the foundational topics of establishing a healthy society.

When he explains as far as all those conglomerates being able to scale and grow without the need of having to have a profit, this is what hes speaking of when saying that capitalism has changed, morphed into the chimeric situation it is in our present Day.... that actually is powered upon the values that are placed upon a product deemed essential or able to be deemed essential. Unto the people who are converted into mere consumers as opposed to needy humans.

The idea of owning your data seems obvious to me and then having to pay for the services you use shouldn't pose a problem, unless you use a lot of services, that you don't at all value. Everyone getting a vote and having a bank account at the fed directly seem very logical too, although it would be good for these two things to be options and not things you're forced to do, because it would be nice for everyones vote to be equally valued, but sometimes it would be beneficial if there is that one guy to guide a big decision, weighing in heavier. For example it is highly beneficial how as the legends suggest at toyota everyone can stop the production line without precautions if things are spotted that could be improved or that are not working correctly, but when times get tough it's nice to have a caption on a ship that is responsible and if anything were to happen would go down with the ship as only he alone would be responsible

What escapes most economists: They never explain clearly and honestly how we got the Crisis because of people like US Imperialism and UK Imperialism that plundered Greece of trillions of dollars and never paid it back. Yet, you talk about inequality in Capitalism? Explain how to get out of Imperialism. Because, you can't have any banks and politicians or democracy with Germans plundering Europe and the British plundering the world and the Americans plundering every one. [ It's not rocket science ]. It's rocket suicide, indeed.

The Russian Revolution happened as it did with relative success because the State was weak; Despite its reputation the US system is extremely strong, its working class is utterly defeated and doomed to neo/technoFeudalism The only escape for a Western working class person is emigration or internal separation from the system such as a local cooperative organization This is a fact we need to come to terms with, there will be no functional revolution in the US or its tighter vassals, only riots and death
