if you look at the beginning of the zhivago video he did with OJM it shows his pedalboard and the his tone is pretty similar to the one in this video

This video was over 10 years ago. He has a complicated pedal system that is always evolving. The basic concept has always been to roll off the attack from the pick to get a more "legato" sound. I believe he did a walk through of his pedals in a video that is online.
