    Not drawing and playing the 2 blue to extend your train would have avoided the tie.

    i agreed with keeping all five routes. but it's atlanta to nashville turn one with an eye towards a path of san fran>la>el paso>dallas>little rock>nashville with a lot of options on how to hook up the rest and a lot of flexibility if anything you want gets blocked. also leaves you fairly open to claim most east coast routes if you draw tickets.

    pretty strongly disagreed with going houston to new orleans turn one, nashville to atlanta seemed the way better option, way more open if you secure that. houston to new orleans forces you to secure dallas to houston and new orleans to miami while you have little rock and st. louis as options out of nashville and you can go direct from atlanta to miami or through charleston. plus you have the nasville to pittsburgh, nashville to raleigh, and atlanta to raleigh options to move towards tornto, washington, and new york. furthermore burning green for la to phoenix is a huge mistake, save it for el paso to houston and you have no reason to go to kansas city. yellow makes the correct decision going dallas to okc, if you have a block option, take it.

    green screwed this game up pretty badly. weird prioritization of routes on their part and they got blocked a lot. they definitely could've taken this game had they realized what you were going for and blocked any of your routes.

    Had a game yesterday where I finished 2nd with 190 points and 12 completed tickets (no misses). In hindsight I was in a position to end the game first when I had the most tickets, kept hunting and kept hitting some smaller ones, but in the same period another player hit on some much bigger tickets than they had. They scored 202 with 13 complete and 1 missed.

    You really needed to draw much, much earlier to see what you were aiming for. You only needed yellow and orange and you built up 25 cards, allowed red and yellow to monopolise the east coast and made it very difficult for yourself to actually utilise those cards.

    Why delay the end of the game one turn to get into Houston, when you don't have a Houston ticket and you're not gonna draw? Don't see the logic there.

    feel like keeping the miami routes was way riskier than keeping seattle to okc. but i think both starting route options had the potential to work. maybe a bit awkward starting tickets, but good ones. green pretty massively screws up not taking la to phoenix way earlier (and kinda screws up again going through vegas, feel with 3 orange in hand that san fran to salt lake was probably the better option for them). good read to spot yellow was taking black, i noticed that too.

    don't know why you didn't try for raleigh to nashville and went through little rock instead and you didn't have the trains for vegas to miami without abandoning either nashville or omaha so even with wilds it probably wasn't worth taking.

    Wonderful to play with you again. This was indeed a strange start. I actually started out as the east coast monkey with Chicago-Atlanta, New York-Nashville and New York-Miami which is while I pulled early and happened to get the LA routes. I was also a little disappointed that I couldn’t pull a Vegas ticket for the life of me. Lastly, I would gladly travel by train from Nashville to Omaha via Dallas, Miami, and Montreal. Love the content and glad I can help be a part of it.

    From ~6:35 - 8:40 green had a Saint Louis-Nashville sized hole in their route - given we were heading that way, I think taking that route would've been advantageous, both to make the life of the strongest player more difficult, and keep our future route options as open as possible. When we eventually took a Nashville route, it took many turns to complete as the only way in was triple white.

  • @roverthtaeh
    @roverthtaeh13 күн бұрын

    Surprised, given the high ELOs on show, that some of the obvious blocking opportunities weren't taken by any of the players, particularly early on.

  • @arivald6677
    @arivald667713 күн бұрын

    Intentional blocking is bad in 90% cases, good players will not block you as its slows down both you and person blocking you, but helps 2 other players. You block only if you need the game to last few turns longer and by blocking specific route you delay player that was about to trigger endgame - so if blocking - block the top dog. Matt wasn't a threat to them this game, he didn't hold the most important routes for them (New York area) unfortunely he didn't realise this early and played bit too panicky. There was no reason to resign on longest train card for example. New players don't block because they want to be nice, veterans don't block because its waste of tempo and resources so playing it calm and collecting cards is often right - only exception is if you're in 4p game with ELO 150-250 range you should be extra careful. That being said people will take key routes super early so stuff like: LA-LV, Houston - New Orleans, will be gone after first circle often so there's a lot of unintentional blocking by people just taking good routes.

  • @roverthtaeh
    @roverthtaeh13 күн бұрын

    Beg to differ. A strategic block can almost eliminate a player. Now you have a 1 in 3 chance of winning. I've used blocking to great effect before. And been blocked to great effect, too! I was also not referring to Matt being blocked. Each to their own!

    yeah, this game basically game down to ticket draws. you were in decent shape to play a west coast game, but you need to draw west coast tickets to do that and you unfortunately did not.

  • @wfchannel4673
    @wfchannel467314 күн бұрын

    yellow really just needed a good ticket draw that last turn to win. clearly they got all stuff they didn't have done and took portland to vancouver. they only lost by 17 even with your bonus. the problem for them is mostly down to what could they even draw. they overlap green with most of the big routes they'd want, aren't in new york, chicago, or denver, and have very little available. they probably should have drawn instead of blindly going up to seattle, but seeing what they draw it wouldn't have helped them anyway. ultimately they mostly just got unlucky, i don't think there were major problems with their strategy, though with those tickets i think they probably should have prioritized houston to new orleans early and gone across the bottom rather than crossing through duluth and helena.

    Ya, I’ve noticed that the majority of the time, I win when I don’t have large or small cards, but a bunch of 10-15 pointers. Sometimes you just screwed with a bunch of small tickets. I beat someone who had 12 tickets, and I only had 6. His tickets were all under 10 points

    I think 16:52 was yellow trying to get you to block green up in the northwest. That would have been very rough on green, who was already in a tough spot having to still connect stuff that late. It would have made green miss out on their northwest routes, which at that point probably takes them out of the running. Either you didn't notice, or you rightly assessed that you did not need to block green to beat them. Whatever the case, that was an entertaining game!

My favorite part of the game is when you draw new tickets, it's always a neat surprise when you already have one or more of the routes. You sound much more relaxed now than in your older videos. Hopefully it rains there more, those videos with the rain in the background were the best! Keep on playing!

    yeah, didn't think you needed to draw, how you're plugged into the board there just isn't enough you're hoping for especially considering how yellow is positioned on the board means they have a high potential to already have everything you want. once you do draw, taking chicago to atlanta as a 5 point loss was the play as all the tickets are unlikely to be completed anyway.

    Yes, the Polish flag is white on the top and red on the bottom. Then there also is Monaco's flag which is basically the same as Indonesia's flag but just in a different width:height ratio. I probably wouldn't have taken the tickets into Duluth myself. I'd just have taken San Francisco to Atlanta and go from there, maybe get another ticket draw later on. All those Duluth tickets take quite some time to complete for very few points.

    There was one other option if you had two extra turns to get the amount of trains needed for the missed route going duluth>sault st.> toronto. giving you the one last train needed to finish off charleston.

  • @wfchannel4673

    too risky that the other side of that gets taken if you take one side. then you're screwed. real mistake is taking chicago to saint louis too quickly (or really going saint louis to pittsburgh to begin with, it's extremely rare that bypassing chicago is worth it).

  • @wfchannel4673

    good game. i prefer taking denver to el paso because as what happened anyway you didn't complete what you drew there and honestly those routes weren't really worth going for. maybe if you stumble into a lot of yellow, red, or green you can claim it but just take it as a loss and move on. toronto to charleston is worse not just because it's more points, but also because it's all pairs to connect. at least you get points from the trains you use hooking up el paso, even if you only get 4 points from the ticket (which again, isn't a bad loss).

    yeah, i think with the possibility of drawing la to new york, seattle to new york, and/or vancouver to montreal (since no one but you was in both of those, technically portland to pittsburgh was also available) that taking tickets was the play. plus it makes you more competitive for the 15 point bonus if you pick up small stuff.
