  Rule 163 of the Highway Code, only overtake on the left if the vehicle in front is signalling to turn right, and there is room to do so, stay in your lane if traffic is moving slowly in queues, if the queue on your right is moving more slowly than you are, you may pass on the left, he shouldn’t be overtaking on the left there because it was free flowing traffic but honestly, I think it’s a combination or poor attitude, impatience and in too much of a rush, some drivers feel the need to use every inch of available road space as possible, I think it’s also a lack of understanding, I see it all the time, people are in such a rush to get to wherever they’re going and you just cruise along steadily and you sit behind them at the next red traffic light, if you take your time and read the road and think of best flow for everyone and look as far as you can see you actually get to your destination faster but unfortunately not everyone understands that.
