    When there are three numbers in the name of the MTR it has one or more segments above 1500 ft. That doesn't guarantee that there are no segments below 1500. Does it? It seems like any MTR could have segments all the way down to the surface.

    it might be obvious to some people but I thought it might be helpful to others to point out that part of part 107 requirements don't always align with The requirements when flying as a hobbyist (49 U.S. Code § 44809 - Exception for limited recreational operations of unmanned aircraft) One thing that's different is the allowance to fly above a structure into class E airspace. I believe that's only allowed under part 107. It's also not allowed under part 107 when you have LAANC aauthorization up to a certain altitude in controlled airspace. For example if you have authorization up to 400 ft you cannot climb above that even if there's a 800 ft tower in the same place.

    The FAA isn't trying to integrate drones into the airspace, they are pushing out us to make room for amazon, walmart, google, and the other companies that purchased the FAA a few years ago. Sending my info to anyone with an app so they can mug me isn't keeping safety in mind. The 50,000+ comments from stakeholders huh? The hobbiest aren't stakeholders.

    I'm very curious, how can an airport have class E airspace with a floor that is above surface? (Either 700 or 1200). I suppose they do not account take offs and landings for this purpose? And, although Class G exists below E airspace at the airport, one would STILL need permission from the airport (Not necessarily ATC clearence) for flying on airport property, correct? What if I'm in Class G airspace JUST outside the airport? That would be unreasonable to suggest doing, but i think you understand why I'm asking. I feel like I'm missing some things, here.

  • @tacticalaviation
    @tacticalaviation Жыл бұрын

    I think you got it all right, and I will add this for some clarification. Class E airspace designated with a floor that is above the surface is typically done to provide a transition area between the controlled airspace and the uncontrolled airspace below. The regulations regarding drone operation in Class G airspace on airport property may vary depending on the specific airport and local regulations. However, it's important to note that even in Class G airspace, you may still need permission to fly your drone on airport property. Many airports have specific regulations and procedures in place for drone operations on their property, even in uncontrolled airspace. This could include obtaining permission from airport authorities or following specific rules and restrictions to ensure safe and legal operations.

    I'm confused by orientation. How do you distinguish which direction the airplane is taking off/landing? IE, which side is departure/final?

  • @tacticalaviation
    @tacticalaviation2 жыл бұрын

    At an uncontrolled airport, the direction a pilot chooses to take off is going be based on wind direction. In this example the wind is blowing East to West, so the pilot would takeoff into the wind and depart Runway 09 (think of the pilot looking at his magnetic compass). If the winds were calm, the pilot would have the option of taking off on either runway 27 or 09. Because the pilot can takeoff and land in both directions, the departure end of the runway is determined by the pilot prior to taking off or landing. That is why pilots will report the runway heading in their radio calls (midfield left downwind runway 09, on final runway 09, or on final runway 27 for example).

  • @smfknj6010
    @smfknj60102 жыл бұрын

    @@tacticalaviation Thanks for the answer, but I'm still confused by the sectional chart exam question. How do you know which way the wind is blowing and what the runway numbers are? I know you can look at Metars/tafs, but in this specific question that information is not given. So with this exam question and all the information given, what determines which direction is takeoff/landing?

  • @tacticalaviation
    @tacticalaviation2 жыл бұрын

    For the question itself, wind direction is irrelevant. "While monitoring the Cooperstown CTAF you hear an aircraft announce that they are midfield left downwind to RWY 13." Midfield = directly abeam of the RWY Left = Left turning traffic Downwind = the downwind leg of the traffic pattern RWY 13 = Runway of 130° (intended landing heading) The pilot is reporting that they directly across from the runway on the downwind making left hand turns to come in and land on runway 13. That would make them East of the runway

  • @smfknj6010
    @smfknj60102 жыл бұрын

    @@tacticalaviation So which side of the airport is the landing/takeoff is determined by saying "Runway 13" which indicates they are heading TOWARD 130 degrees? If instead the pilot said runway 31, they would be referring to the exact opposite of this example because they are headed toward 310 degrees?

  • @tacticalaviation
    @tacticalaviation2 жыл бұрын

    That is correct. Left downwind for RWY 31 would put them West. Let me know if you have any other questions

    I have been studying over the Christmas holiday with a scheduled test date for the Part 107 on January 5. I have listened to many hours of KZread videos. This particular topic, runway traffic patterns, is one of the hardest to understand because the heading of the runway is confusing (plane takes off in the direction of the runway, as in the video, its 09, which is actually at the far end of the runway and the opposite point on the compass from where the takeoff starts!), and the consideration of whether the runway has a left-hand or right-hand pattern impacts which side of the runway is upwind or downwind. This video is the VERY BEST explanation with great graphics. Thank you so much for this short and concise tutorial!! I also watched your video on Class E and G airspaces and it is also tops on that topic on KZread because of the graphics.

    I loathe all runway orientation information. On what planet is this practical information for a drone pilot? Drones don't use runways. You shouldn't be operating near an airport without authorization. Why do I need to know this?

  • @tacticalaviation
    @tacticalaviation3 жыл бұрын

    Justin t I agree with you. You should not have to know about traffic patterns as a drone pilot but there are possible exam questions on this topic according to UA.V.B.K4. This is due to the fact that if you have a Part 107 license and decide to get the authorization to operate at or near an airport this knowledge may be useful.

  • @jerseyshoredroneservices225
    @jerseyshoredroneservices2253 жыл бұрын

    You need to know this because if you're operating near that airport you should listen to the ctaf on a radio and understand where the aircraft are relative to your position. You are operating in the airspace with airplanes flying around and you are obligated to stay out of their way so it helps to understand where they are relative to where your drone is.

  • @jerseyshoredroneservices225
    @jerseyshoredroneservices2253 жыл бұрын

    @@tacticalaviation Justin, Part 107 and or authorization are not required to fly near airports unless they have controlled air space. Most of us live near some little, uncontrolled airport but we don't need authorization to fly. We do however need to yield to manned aircraft and make sure we don't interfere with airport operations. That means we can't do things like fly where the planes are approaching and departing because they're very low. They also happen to be very low when they are practicing for different emergency situations so even if the traffic pattern is 1,000 ft we can't count on airplanes maintaining that altitude.

  • @jatakasawa
    @jatakasawa3 жыл бұрын

    @@jerseyshoredroneservices225 I live within sight of a small air park. We regularly have skydivers and small aircraft on fair weather weekends. The part 107 subject matter has been interesting and cool but the runway stuff is a little much if you ask me. Here's the thing...I'll always fly intelligently and stay out of the airspace they frequent here. That's plain ol' common sense. The angle of entry and flight patterns will be at altitudes I won't be operating.

  • @jerseyshoredroneservices225
    @jerseyshoredroneservices2253 жыл бұрын

    @@jatakasawa The thing is that there are situations where a 107 operation could be at much higher altitudes and near an airport. Since there's only one certificate for everybody including small fixed wing aircraft I guess they have to include that stuff. It makes sense because it does apply to some people. If you're inspecting a tower near an airport you could easily be at a thousand feet AGL. Of course the aircraft are going to hopefully avoid that tower but if they get a little close and the uas gets a little far there might be a conflict. But whatever, I know some people think 107 is ridiculous for a variety of reasons and I agree with some of them. one thing I thought was interesting but ridiculous for us to be required to know is airport signage. I can't imagine a situation where we're going to be taxing our UAS at an airport and need to know what the hold Short line means LOL 🙂
