Tahoe is so beautiful but the way it is setup is a bit underwhelming. I would have expected better walking corridors especially in the commercial areas around the lake.

Hey, thanks for your comment. Yes, you're right, unfortunately you can't go for a walk or hike right by the water, you have to drive into the mountains. Nevertheless, I think Lake Thaoe is one of the most beautiful lakes I've been to so far.

I first traveled this road in 1974 when I moved to California, going to SF with a friend who was living in LA. Next time was around 1976 returning from San Jacinto where I moved another friend's piano (went down 5). On the way up CA1, we stopped at Esalen, after 3 I think, when we could enjoy the thermal springs (in bathtubs or concrete tubs). She actually ran into a friend from high school. Overall, a great ride. Brings back great memories. Living in SF & Marin meant a lot of driving on the coast road. Came back from Bend Oregon on the highway too.

Have done this trip at least 800 times and never went thru Bellvik, always turning left in the intersection in Dorotea.

It would have been even shorter if I had gone by helicopter. The goal was not to arrive as fast as possible but as relaxed as possible and to see a lot of beautiful landscapes.
