Unobtanium'sQuickReviews

Short, concise, and content-rich reviews. Ever wish there were less talking and more time spent exploring actual product? Tired of watching 20 minutes of video for a 3 second glimpse through an optic, or a flashlight/weapon-light review in broad daylight that focuses more on the box it arrived in than the beam? This channel is for you! I do my very best to answer the questions people may have about the actual function of a product while also attempting to provide data-rich commentary on the more technical side.

    I think an interesting way to think about whether shoulder swapping as a worthwhile practice for someone is to think about it in terms of how much area of the body is exposed and multiply that by time to get the shot(s) needed off. What I see pretty often in watching people shoot from a support shoulder is that they take substantially longer to align their sights with their target and recover their sights into the target during strings of fire. All that extra time spent partially exposed allows someone longer to engage you as well. The question then becomes do I want to be an X sized target, but be able to provide accurate fire within a given time, or be half an X sized target and engage in twice as long? What the actual numbers are there depends on shooter ability and the shooting problem. I’m not saying shoulder switching is bad. I just think it’s context and shooter specific. For me, my shotgun is for defense inside my home. At the distances available there, I don’t think that the difference in exposure of my body that shoulder switching provides makes up for the additional time it takes me to aim the gun with my non dominant eye. Could I spend a ton of time training to an almost equivalent level of proficiency with my support side shooting? Yes, but at the expense of spending fewer of my repetitions advancing my proficiency with my primary side shooting. A juice that, for me, is not worth the squeeze. That all said, I can shoot a shotgun from my support side - I just can’t do it as well and so I don’t see myself electing to do that outside of some very niche circumstance. Great video though. Nothing wrong with anything that’s posted here. I’m just feeling chatty tonight, I guess.

    I agree with your assessment. It reminds me of the "do all rifle", that people chase. There's always a compromise. Shorter barrels have pros and cons, just as longer barrels have pros and cons. Lights seem to be in that spot where they fix one "issue", currently being people wanting the most output as possible, but that comes with cons, such as step downs, high temps and less run times. There's a sweet spot in there, that I think you're onto in this video. Good output, good throw, and spill, but no crazy step downs, and I would assume less temp issues. If all a person needs is momentary maximum lighting solutions, the REIN and Surefire are maybe what a person would want. But, if they want consistent longer use, then a step back the other direction seems to be the way to go. Long story short, like rifles, there is no "do all flashlight" IMO.

    I had the the opportunity to look through a nx8 a few months ago and I was not impressed. The vudu has a much flatter image that is sharper and overall just cleaner edge to edge IMO. The nx8 has a prominent fish bowling effect at low power. Still a good scope but for the price I think their are better options.

  • @UnobtaniumsQuickReviews
    @UnobtaniumsQuickReviews2 ай бұрын

    It does fish bowl, but the bright illumination plus being very nearly a real and true 1x make it awesome on 1x, dynamically. I prefer it to the atacr for those reasons on 1x. To me, where the nx8 functionally compromises is light transmission and depth of field at 6-8x.
