    Interesting to hear someone willing to say that money and cash cannot pay, buy or provide every need --- As a country i'm not sure our increasingly beyond-consumerism mindset truly gives space in public affairs and discussion for such an admission....

    Another unknowledgeable question at 19:18. Why no mention of Midcounties own money we invested in community wind turbines over the past years, our founding partnership with Ripple Craig Fatna that continues with Ripples 5th project now taking reservations from midcounties coop energy customer and coop energy own community tariff - on which Midcounties divi points are paid.... Ripple may have 18,000 people in villages buying from community turbines at half price but Maybe dcounties has 65,000 households to n its community power tariff, buying 135,000 household worth from community turbines, hydro and solar...

    Also slightly annoyed by his question about a F5. The entire point of Midcounties selling F1 2 3 and 4 on useability and long life is that that news won't even be on the horizon till early 2025.. Entirely undermines our business, and why we as a society have invested in our partnership, for our board member to publicly place an expectation of an obsolescence/ suggests an upgrade would even need to be on the horizon right now. F2 has lasted, as did F1. F3 was selling as recently as 8 quarters ago and designed for fully supported use into 2025 Why would a F5 even be a thing when the F3 is still available and F4 was launched with a F4b deliberately aimed to still specced into 2028......

    The 'I Can't afford one' comment from the audience at 15:30 is fair. While the PayM contract from Midcounties was designed to be fair this is the premium product in Midcounties range and Midcounties always tried to have the rest of its range old style affordable & ethical as well

    I am surprised the member of the board wasn't aware the society and it's members was the first to import and sell Fairphone, right back to Fairphone 1, representing their entire footprint in Britain and dealing with it's Founder CEO as a representative of ethical UK consumers (the europeans didn't realise there were any consumers in UK interested in this space). The society put it's capital behind it in a big way to get sales, (even holding several thousand units to sell physically on the balance sheet which had been the opposite of our business model in the years before).

    There is no climate crisis. 10% decline in natural disasters since 2000. Accumulated cyclone energy shows no increasing trend. Global hurricane landfalls shows no trend. Downward global trend for total hurricaine numbers. NOAA: "We conclude that the historical Atlantic hurricane data at this stage do not provide compelling evidence for a substantial greenhouse warming-induced century-scale increase in: frequency of tropical storms, hurricanes, or major hurricanes, or in the proportion of hurricanes that become major hurricanes." NOAA data 1851-2021 shows no trend in number of hurricaine landfalls with the record high being 1886. The trend for over 7 decades has been downwards in the Pacific as well. Drought appears to be decreasing globally measured by SPI 1901-2017. Global trends show no increasing flooding frequency or severity. For every million people on earth, annual deaths from climate-related causes have declined 98%. Deserts have shrunk considerably since the 1980's. The Sahara shrank by 12,000km² per year 1984-2015. The Earth has greened by 15% or more in a human lifetime. The Great Barrier Reef's coral cover has reached the greatest extent ever recorded. On extinction the rate is very low: 900 known lost species for 2.1 million known species in 500 years, so from observations there are an average of slightly less than 2 species lost every year. Global temperatures maxed out in 2016 and have been lower ever since. There is no climate crisis.

    15 plus years of partnership. Thankyou Outward bound for providing this each summer. Bigger or smaller the 20 to 200 children each summer look like they benefit massively from the Mid-counties - Outward bound. Ben Reid was very proud. Important part of our coop that we achieve this together!

    Matt mentions going along to the half year member meetups held in October in six or seven of the county towns (mine is Oxford, only a 5 hour round trip away) and yes these are great opportunities to meet key driving lights in the society and officers like Edward Parker, hear the tenor of questions being asked and belatedly read about all the good topics and knowledge discussed in the six places during the same meeting in the previous years minutes but will the Board start holding local and very local member events again, e.g aimed at members travelling on foot less than say 10 minutes to be there? Younger Members may be more likely to be able to pay the fare to such events? Also the society has no intention of changing its long standing Member Share Account offer and the dedicated head office team of three that make this work for members, but how will the be presented to younger members coming to maturity as society members after the 1970s. It works, so it never gets spoken about a members meetings, while the cash involved is a key way of financing the very meetings and services for members, but is this key spoke in our societies mechanisms spinning up at a sufficent pace as other growth areas of the businesses, or the changing geography of our trading areas?

    2nd take perhaps required. Maybe just a chance to reflect on the script and come back for a take naturally with material he can deliver as lib. 'a better person' through the freedom to manage well, get out into community, know people ??? How has that support for his own career manifested, does he have good contact with local managers, distribution, properties to feel support by peers. Or is this support in some other way, eg common sense procedures/ training pathway?? Seems likable and authority, but as if taken just the once speedily

    I would like to bring my own containers to the deli counter, to buy cooked meat and cheese. Can I do this? It would avoid having to buy these items in plastic packaging that is often overlooked as a source of single-use plastic

    I am a Coop member and get my energy from Octopus. I would still like to see a further reduction in plastic food packaging and 'convenience' foods. The Borough I live in does not have a very good recycling programme so any reduction in plastic, even if it is supposed to be recycled would be welcomed. I live opposite a recreation area where people buy 'picnics' from the local Coop so they are disposing of Coop plastic bags in the general waste bins and food packaging , such as fruit/pasta pots, with plastic forks and containers. The packaging that cold meats comes in is not recyclable and often there are only a few slices to a package. Personally I avoid buying anything that comes in plastic packaging which means I'm quite restricted in what I can buy!

    I'm a Coop Member. How does the Society respond to its low rating by Ethical Consumer magazine? I'm hearing a presentation that is encouraging individuals to take personal action. Surely the point of being a Cooperative is that we can take collective action. We can't ask members to give up plastic bottles whilst selling water in plastic bottles.

  • @mikepickering262
    @mikepickering2624 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your feedback, and we’re keen to hear your views on any actions you would like Co-op Midcounties to take. The Ethical Consumer rating is a broader co-op retail review, and across the broader co-op network action is being taken, including removing any plastic (from packaging and products) that is not designed to be recycled or reused from Co-op Branded products. Also, Co-op branded water bottles are now made from 50% recycled materials. Co-op Midcounties have introduced our eco bricks programme to enable waste plastic bottles to be re-used for something useful. Any feedback on further actions you would like us to take please feel free to share.

    @@mikepickering262 I'm calling on Midcounties and the broader Coop to partner with Ethical Consumer to raise our rating. We need to do some 'choice editing', phasing out harmful products like beef and dairy and working to make alternatives more widely available and affordable. We need to make Organic food the only viable option and move away from fossil fuels asap. This is all very hard now because it wasn't picked up decades ago, but it is no longer about consumer choice - it is about human survival.

    Good campaign for the Oxford, Gloucester and Midland coop area, so many water ways deluged with human debris and landfills threatened with becoming overfilled before time. The first steps agreed for this quarter were a good start; look forward to hearing what the trading businesses have achieved at HYM
