Nice to come across a real woodsman, one who cares ! Keep it up mate 😊
Really 'pining for the fjords', so to speak, aren't you? The moodswing since Grua is quite striking ... From an external perspective, though, the green shoots you home in on give cause for a new optimism echoed by the ousting of the Conservatives 'down south'. (That said, I hope you realise that the 1066 Nor(th)mans, who were the grandaddies of the Tories, were of course originally Norwegian Vikings - so that should help you distance yourself!) What's really nice about your videos, Sam, is the quasi-personal connection you generate & maintain so well. Never met, almost certainly never will meet, and yet it's like being updated by a friend. Much appreciated - take care ...
I found your video very interesting, just learning about Scotland and all its diversity. You've got a new subscriber.
Seeing those small start of trees is pretty exciting!! Do what you can when you can! Always appreciate you and what you do!
Thanks for watching and the continued support!
Looks amazing Sam i would love to go do that some time mate i would love to canoe in the fjords, ive been to Norway loads of times but its working on an oil rig docked in a fjord, keep up the great work pal your channels inspiring. Atb Wullie
Cheers Wullie! If I'm lucky enough to visit Norway again I definitely want to head to the West this time and see some of the Fjords for myself!
@@HighlandWoodsman Hi Sam, do that mate there beautiful and the forest and mountains around them are amazing looking. Atb Wullie
Sometimes, the algorithm throws me into top-notch content. Subbed. I'm in Edinburgh, and this is the content I'm looking for. Nice job, mate.
😃😃👍🏼you need as many tents as you want!! That’s what I say!! Kinda like how I need as many different twig stoves as I want. 😊👍🏼 We work hard and it gives us joy! Great trip and thank you so much! Great to see you and the pup out there again! NQU
Thanks for watching as always! 😀👍
Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce a video. Just got a light fighter tent. Heavy but robust.
Thanks for taking the time to watch, it's much appreciated! 👍
Brilliant. Love your videos. Not boring at all. There’s not enough ones like yours in Scotland. Does your lab not want your bacon lol.
Thanks so much for watching! You didn't see him behind the camera drooling 😆 He got some cheeseburger and some bacon 🙂
lovely video mate, enjoying the back to basics nature vibe, just a bloke and his dog enjoying our wonderful land
Thanks so much for watching 👍
I'm one of those you speak of in this video, not from Scotland (from California) and had no idea about the overgrazing and the changes in the landscape, so I appreciate the info you put out there. I watch a lot of UK hiking videos just for the sheer beauty of the country and I just assumed the Highlands were just barren yet beautiful. Your video footage is gorgeous, I'm enjoying catching up on them.
Thanks for watching Dan, this is exactly the type of impact I hope to have with my videos!
Leave a comment and let me know what your favourite tent is and why ⛺
@@HighlandWoodsman got to many 😂and want even more but they are all good because they have all done a night out somewhere and in Scotland as you know a good tent is one that keeps you dry for the night 😂 but I would have to throw the hammock into the equation aaahhhh to many🤷♂️
Good to see you out again. With all the natural regen, is there good deer management in the area?
Thanks Ed! This area benefits by fitting into the Cairngorms Connect project area and is managed by the various partners involved collaboratively. I'm pretty much at the entrance to Glen Feshie here where some excellent work has been done on deer management and we are really starting to see the benefits now.
Keep them coming big man new to your channel been educating and inspiring will need to visit your neck of the woods ❤️🏴
Thanks so much 😀
The first year and a half of my life was spent in those parts. My dad was an alpine plantsman at Inshriach where I was conceived 63 years ago 😮My folks were always up those hills, me stuffed in dads rucksack😊I always consider that area as my home from home although I don't visit that often these days☹You've inspired me to get back there!
Thanks for watching and commenting Davie. Always interesting to hear about peoples background and links to various places around the world 🙂
Thanks for sharing! Watching Scotland through your eyes is wonderful!💪🔥
Thanks so much for watching!
Great to see out in lovely surroundings how lucky u are Great friend to keep u company till next vid.? Stay safe
Thanks for watching James!
It’s really great seeing the emerging growth of all the different saplings. Definitely a positive sign there. Best weekend -Summer Solstice- to have camped there! Thanks for sharing it here. Slaìnte!
Thanks as always Irene 🙂
Always a pleasure to see your vids!
Thank you!
You bet!
Looks mighty good buddy!
Thanks Shaun 👍🏻
Fair play, your views on the national parks and rewilding are not bang on. I live in Aviemore and have a family to raise, and yes, rent is impossible. We were nearly homeless twice last year! Settled for now, and long may it continue. The actions in place are very contradicting and only benefit the privilege and the big Estates. I've worked through the process from a gamekeeper to a keen conservationist. So, not all I know or talk about is just hot air. On another note, good video and set up 😎👌 I have a feeling we may have mutual friends......🤔
Hi Stevie, thanks for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment. I'm glad things have settled down for you, I've almost resigned myself to not owning my own home if I want to stay in the Highlands which is a fairly sad situation. Mutual friends are highly probably, it's a small world up here! 😀👍
I have just discovered this excellent channel. My black Labrador 'Bobby' watches your videos for the 'Darach' content. The wife and I love the history and wildlife content. We love your 'Forest Thoughts'. You call them rants....We don't see that, we see and feel your passion, empathy and intelligence. It is really refreshing to hear what you have to say. I have had the privilege of stalking invasive deer species (Sika) in ancient Caledonian Forest. So, I understand your concerns about land use. I feel the same about my native Dartmoor and the Shropshire Hills. Many people think that wilderness places are untouched wild habitats, they have no idea that often these environments have been shaped and continued to be shaped/exploited by man for financial gain. Your storytelling style reminds me of the late great Scottish writer and environmentalist Ronnie Rose. Please, keep up the amazing work!
Hi Steve, thank you so much for this wonderful comment. It really makes creating these videos feel worthwhile. Say hello to Bobby for me.
My 2 mates have the same set up from DD and have the same problem with under blanket 2 big guys like yourself fits my hammock perfectly they need to make a larger one for you guys loving the videos ❤🏴
Good to know it's not just me! 😀 thanks so much for watching.
Propane is $3+ per gallon. Canisters can be refilled (much less waste). Alcohol is $10+ per gallon. Obviously refillable, too! It takes more alcohol (50%+ more) to heat the same amount of water. Alcohol is somewhat lighter and much quieter. Tradeoffs.
As far as I know the camping sized canisters aren't really designed for re-filling. It's also a hassle to refill and potentially dangerous if you overfill etc. I'm not sure what the cost of each is here but methylated spirits is usually pretty cheap. I take your point though. Thanks for watching and commenting 😀
Allot of home truths spoken about the state of the highlands environment - but still a great video.
Many thanks David.
Thanks for taking us along your hike. Great drone shots. And who is your lady friend?. You look pretty happy Sam. Enjoyed this one lovely place.
Thanks as always Catherine 😀
Get the Scots pine back and so will be even more beautiful. I am an ecologist so I feel the pain when I look at the Lake District too.....
Sometimes I wish I was ignorant to it and that I could relax when I'm outside. It's tough! Thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed your video and forest thoughts ❤️🏴
Thanks so much for watching!
Love it mate ✊🏻🏴
Cheers Wullie! 👍

Nice footage, lovely drone shots. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you a wonderful upcoming weekend.
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you had a good one too!
Nice video. 🎉
Thank you 😁👍🏻
I don't know if I've ever seen so happy. Have a real nice sommar/ Christer from Sweden.
Thank you 😁👍🏻
Phenomenal opening guys, this episode was simply incredible! Bravo 👏👏
Thanks for watching 😁
Large but beautiful cabin and comfortably equipped. Beautiful location and scenery😍 Thank you for showing us the beautiful tour👍😊
Thanks so much for watching 😁
Lovely video, Sam. I love the music, the views and the aerial drone footage of the amazing Norwegian forests. They are quite impressive! You were so lucky with the weather, warm and sunny without the annoying midges! I only missed Darach. He would have loved the adventure! 😉
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it 😁 the mosquitoes were definitely out by the end of the week! 🪰
Breath taking views, what a lovely place to stay, great drone shots too. Perfect ending, made me chuckle 😄thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching 😁
What a beautiful place! 😊
😁
It looks lovely, should have had a swim in the lake to cool off. Bit rude of you though, you didn't introduce your friend 🙂
It will have to be a cliffhanger for another video 😂
@@HighlandWoodsman don't keep us hanging for too long 😂
Great video - production was super. Quick question, do you get mige type of biting insects in Norway? I know in Sweden you can get plagued with them like in the Highlands. Only other question is when are you moving to Norway?
Many thanks Ed! Apparently you do but I've only been at the right time once and I didn't really experience any. Mosquitoes were definitely coming out by the end of this week. When I did the summer trip to Trondheim in 2022 we were in some pretty still and humid forest locations and it all seemed to be mosquitoes and horseflies.
The end was great 😀
😁👍🏻
Great video with beautiful views. It looks like a real escape. Replacing unwanted electronic and human noise with welcomed input from nature and people. Good for you.
Thanks for watching Kerry 😊
Really awesome place and spectacular forest! 👍

Great landscape and forest! I hope this will stay for ever. The music blends in perfectly. Where did you got it from? Thank you for showing.
Thanks so much for watching as always 😁 all the music I use is from the website epidemic sound 👍🏻
