Sean, use WD-40 to remove the glue residue. It will remove the glue but will not damage anything it touches along with your skin.

Rare for the 6v92 to be coupled to manual. The standard was after 1980 with MCI that manual was standard with the 8v71 and automatic with the 6v92.

You might want to use stainless steel screws to mount the marker lights on the rear upper cap…they won’t rust and you’ll be happy you used SS in the future.

Ahhhhhhh... The memories of returning after a trip, making the necessary repairs and go right back out again. In my opinion, there is no other bus that can compete with the MC9. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I enjoy your post keep it up. Self was given 1989 MCI 102 C3 49 seat. With a bad motor spun main bearing. Last year. It had sat for 7 years at a repair shop. All I have in it is the $200 tow charge to get it to my farm. Have always liked busses. One I like beast is a GM 4501. Was delighted to get the MCI.

I always wondered what Greyhound did with all their buses when they shut down. Thanks for the answer. I almost was set to be a driver for them, luckily, it would have been very short-lived. I sure miss greyhound running down the highways in BC esp. R.I.P. Henry. By the way KILO means 1000. That word does NOT change to kiawe!! Just like KILO-watt, KILO-gram, KILO-volt. Two words! Metre means "Distance." So it is KILO-Metre!!!

I just found you, and am very glad I did. My childhood was filled with charter bus runs with my dad here in Oklahoma at a (now defunct) local bus line that he worked at for years. I fell in love with the MC9 buses that he drove; I remember each one down to the patterns on the seats. Your videos took me right back to that time. You brought back so many memories.

Fast idle should have kicked off with brake release. I never did but a lot of guys just rode around with the fast idle on so as soon as the pulled the brake it would kick on.

Very cool video! I worked at a bus co in the 80's and we had two 1979 MC9s both 8V71 with 4-speed manuals. The interiors looked like the interior on your bus. We had some newer 5-speeds too but always loved driving those 4-speeds. The speedometers were color coded for each gear so you could easily see the max speed in each gear, this came in handy with a loud school group where you couldn't always hear the engine lol, the later speedos did not have this. A lot of fun we had back then. I also remember Allstate Tours with those pink buses and we saw them all the time on the road, not surprised they got the first one.

What oil you running? We used to run straight 40W Rotella, Delvac, Delo, etc. Its almost impossible to find so have to order your oil and keep some on the the bus. The 15W-40 that you see in truckstops is not suitable for the older 2-stroke engines.

  • @shamrocksean

Hey! Yes I order and run straight 40! It’s a must!
