    Such a hard job cutting plastic 😂😂

  • @seakayaklife
    @seakayaklife4 күн бұрын

    If you're making a joke, we probably do deserve a laugh for how dramatic we seemed. I mean, cutting plastic is easy, right? What makes it hard is when you realize you have to make a perfect cut cuz there's no real way to recover if you mess up, cut too big, cut in the wrong place, etc. We've done tons of plastic boat mods over the years, mostly drilling holes here and there. If you mess up, you can just plastic weld it and start over. But cutting a 6" circle within 1/16" in a $3000 new boat? It was a little stressful! 😃

    To pull the string through the tube, first push a thin wire through, attach the string to the wire, then pull the wire back out. This is often the technique used for model aircraft control surfaces. I also saw another Kayak repair video where they use a vacuum cleaner to suck the string out. Thanks for the video.

    Little tip for a hole saw run in reverse on plastic

  • @seakayaklife
    @seakayaklife2 ай бұрын

    That is a good tip. We actually tried that for a bit but it generated so much heat that it started to melt the plastic. It might have been ok on the actual boat since it's a much harder version of polyethylene, but we didn't like the "all in" one shot you get with a hole saw. That dremel attachment was so easy to control and I'm a big believer in cutting slowly and leave yourself a way out!

    Great work. I guess it’s difficult to have a a mass produced boat that’ll fit everyone. I find the ratchet system really good, you can really torque yourself into the thigh braces but obviously you needed a bit more refinement. P&H are receptive to feedback in my experience.

  • @seakayaklife
    @seakayaklife2 ай бұрын

    We love that ratchet system. We had a similar system back in the day but this version seems better. The main thing for us was having your knees more vertical, which is typical for racing or a "fast sea kayak". Glad we figured it out cuz we love these boats. So where do paddle? You seem to know P&H.

    @@seakayaklife I live near Aberdeen, Scotland and paddle all over the UK really. I just sold my P&H Virgo which was a great boat, but I wanted something faster, with more storage. I’ve had a Scorpio in the past and had a shot of the Delphin, which has the ratchet system. I’m familiar with it as they have them in Pyranha white water boats.

    Hi guys. Peter here from Aus. I am a huge fan of a minimum of at least a front tie down. Roof racks are designed to have weight bearing down. The are not designed to have the wind causing intense upwards pressure. Particularly at highway speeds and even more so with huge oncoming semi trailers creating even more uplift on major highways. Just saying! Otherwise, love your channel.

  • @seakayaklife
    @seakayaklife8 ай бұрын

    We are also fans of front (and rear) tie downs. We have used them in many situations, especially when hauling multiple boats in rough weather. Great advice. One of the advantages of hauling certain sea kayaks upside down is they become so aerodynamic that they actually have a slight downward push on the front bar. But we realize that's considered strange by many car toppers!

With a little instruction we learned the basics. Now we can roll just about anything given a little practice and ensuring that the boat fits properly, hence this video. LOL. It's really a timing thing. Slowing down your instinct to get your head out of the water. I've been practicing as of late, in slowing down the roll as if in slow motion, instead of trying to pop up quickly. I've found that it takes less effort and stress on my body. Find someone who has their roll down, watch videos and I'm sure you will be able to do it. Thanks so much for watching

    Fascinating video guys. I have a P&H Scorpio and a big fan of their outfitting, particularly the adjustable thigh braces. I must say I was a little shocked to see the lack of leverage that the placement in the Valkyrie provided. You cannot have too much leverage when perfecting the bombproof roll. Congrats on your solution to what could have been an issue that would have bugged you constantly and detracted from the enjoyment of a fine P&H kayak......cheers....Peter

    I'm assuming the Scorpio has the same thigh braces? The Valkyrie's front deck if very high, I think there's a plastic version that's a surf ski that's based on this boat, so I think it's meant to have a more vertical position. Which is very comfortable and good for a higher paddle stroke, but for us, it was not an easy roller. But it is now :) Thanks for watching.
