Thanks for showing this clip. The man was great player. I wish the game still had players like The Mick, Roberto, Hank, Willie & Sandy. 😢

In his early years, there was nobody faster from home to first base. Great great athlete. Every kid wanted to be like Mickey. Later in his career, it was common for him to be "over served" during the game.

Was working in a lawn mower shop in a stifling basement, sweating even worse while listening to this on a scratchy radio. Will never forget it. Loved them all.

Mantle was literally on his last legs at this time. He could barely run around the bases. Keep in mind that the young Mantle was one of the fastest runners in MLB.

Chambliss came back out disguised as security and with 2 police officers, to step on home plate, only to find that home plate was stolen. The Bronx Zoo. Home sweet home.

Not true. Look at the video, it's right there. He came back surrounded by security, but in full uniform sans his cap/helmet, and steps on the area where home plate once sat. He's then brought back to the dugout.

I wax watching this with my dad. He hated the Yankees and loved the Red Sox for that reason. The only team he hated more was the Dodgers. He never got over them leaving Brooklyn. When Dent hit it, I jumped up and went crazy! My dad just sat there saying: I don’t believe it!” Over and over. When the World Series started, he actually hoped the Yankees would win. Knowing the history of the game, I understand his hate for the Dodgers, the NY Giants-Brooklyn Dodgers rivalry was probably the most intense rivalry in sports in the early days and of course the Yankees in the World Series meeting either one made it more intense if possible. The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry used to be that intense. Now, not so much since neither has done much since 2009! I currently hate the new rules, especially extra innings and the pitch-batter clocks! Baseball is not football but it seems the owners don’t care. I also hate interleague play. It lessens the World Series. I love MLB and hate what it has been turned into!

I saw Frank Messer, Ron Klimkowski and a rookie catcher named Thurman Munson at the Amityville train station in 1969. It was a prize giveaway appearance. Not overly crowded either. Munson was in full uniform (no mustache) and Frank spoke on some tinny audio set-up. Very cool.

This is wrong…I read on Wikipedia that Billy Martin came back to manage the Yankees in 1979, and not 1980. Billy would also return to the Yankees in 1983, 1985, and 1988. Dick Howser was the Yankees manager in 1980, and the Yankees won 103 games, but lost to the Kansas City Royals 3-0 in the ALCS. So, the title below the video is correct, but the brief description below the drop down arrow, is not. Just wanted to clear things up, I’m not trying to be a know it all. GOD bless and take care everyone. ✌🏻

Never got to hear Phil. Sounds like a great announcer. I remember Chambliss's shot but id forgotten how close that was in dropping over the fence. You figure it might reach seats the way he clubbed it and the arc it took but im guessing 3-5 ft.
