Was a member of the NEW TRADITION MANY YEARS AGO! Jay had always wanted to lead a champion chorus, and he finally got his wish. Really enjoyed being a member of this chorus. Many of his arrangements were virtually impossible to sing, but they always managed to do it! This was mind blowing!!!!

This was my first experience of having the audience give us TWO standing ovations, one for each song, which began from the back of the stadium to the front. I'll never forget that.

A little bit o' trivia (from Albert Williams' Chicago Reader review of the 1994 Pegasus Players production of "Strike Up the Band"): "We hope there'll be no other war / But if we are forced into one-- / The flag that we'll be fighting for / Is the Red and White and Blue one!" So goes the verse from George and Ira Gershwin's ever-popular march "Strike Up the Band," as heard in the 1940 Judy Garland-Mickey Rooney movie of the same name -- the perfect sentiment for an audience psyching itself up for confrontation with the fascist axis. Less well-known is the original lyric, penned in 1927: "We're in a bigger, better war / For your patriotic pastime. / We don't know what we're fighting for -- / But we didn't know the last time!"

SPEBSQSA International Chorus Contest in Miami Beach, FL (1995). This was the first Irish-themed contest package we performed in international contest. At 145 men, this was also the largest New Tradition Chorus to compete at international. Also noteworthy was the fact that we finished a mere four points out of first place.

SPEBSQSA International Chorus Contest in Indianapolis, IN (1997). This earned us the second-highest point total in our history of competing at international (2810, beaten only by our 2815 at Anaheim in 1999)--and, as the video's intro states, an unprecedented fifth consecutive silver medal. This was my first time competing in an international contest--what an experience!

SPEBSQSA International Chorus Contest in Anaheim, CA (1999) was where we unveiled our "Les Mis" set for an international audience. It won us our seventh consecutive silver medal & raised the bar for our Society's competing choruses.

Barbershop Harmony Society International Chorus Contest: Louisville, KY 2004. This was our return to international competition following the required two-year hiatus after our winning the gold in 2001. The third-place bronze medal we won that year was our 15th medal in successive international contests.
