I could easily see Pina Bausch's company using Mick's music. Maybe they already have?

And kudos to Mick for not taking the opportunity to badmouth Sylvian, who definitely deserved it, and kept it focused on creativity. Very rare.

I'm a new fan, having just discovered "Gentlemen..." two years ago. So even with many suggestions that Japan took directly from Roxy Music and Bowie's "Berlin" era... look how important they became to the development of the New Romantic style... Duran Duran of course, but also Gary Numan, Soft Cell, Eurythmics, I would even call The Cure around the era of Pornography/Japanese whispers. And the bass style in Paul Young's songs... I knew all this above well, but after listening to "Oil on Canvas" I realized who did it first. Japan

Good song, but doesn't sound like a typical single. Surprised it did so well. It's always a nice surprise when the general public picks up on a quality song or album that's outside the mainstream box.

It seemed David Bowie didn't think highly of David Sylvian or Japan. I wonder if it was because of their involvement with Angela Bowie? Mick stated in his book he had a romantic relationship with Angela, and while that was going on David Sylvian was seeing one of Angela's friends. I wonder if this ticked Bowie off? Apparently Bowie tried to get Sakamoto from using Sylvian as a vocalist on the track from Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. Also, Sylvian offered to contribute to the Scott Walker film 30 Century Man in 2006, but the producers decided it wouldn't be appropriate. One of the producers of that film was David Bowie. I suspect he didn't like Japan or Sylvian because of their involvement with his ex-wife.
