A couple of lads in rural Ireland trying to save cars that really probably had no right to be saved. Join us as we share our mistakes and hopefully, maybe, teach you something you didn't know. From working on cars to informative car historical videos, if it's got wheels, we got it!

never heard about the mk4 GTTDI, in rest of europe i only knew about the Mk4 GTI TDI which came with the PD150 engine, for the mk5 you had the mk5 GT Sport, which had the 2.0 TDI170hp engine, closest we got to a GTD for that year.
I love the music of GT4 - Who else loves it ? Thanks for including it - I appreciate it Edit: And the music from GTA2
The piano music at 6:50 is great!
Cheers, it’s from the original Sims!
The curving rear door frame was due to the fact that Volvo simply put the saloon doors on the estate body
I was lucky my US spec 2.0 GTI 16v fuel regulator squirting gas out.. it was just the little bring seal. Cannot find replacement part!
I have owned this car for 33 years and it is one of my best cars. My wife and I got it when we were married! Time flys very low manintc with it.
Nice upload Dude Where can I buy one and does it have aircon ?
Cheers! Honestly, no idea to both. They probably have air con. If you want to buy one you’ll have to try Han Chung Classics.
Here in South Africa we had a 2L 8v and 16v Mk2 Jetta
Chinese viewer here, when Santana and Jetta first came to China, the country was fairly poor, therefore they were mainly used as taxi cabs and company cars. It was not unitl mid-2000s when economy was much better that these cars became cheap enough to be the true people's car.
btw the commercial shown at 7:08 is actually the second facelift of Jetta, the Jetta king mentioned should look like 11:39
As the Jetta Clásico manufactured in México until 2011.
I already knew the existance of the GTD, but never knew it was THAT Short lived, or that it had a Sueprcharged version, or that they "reinvented" the wheel with the GTTDI, lol. Cool! And then a GTD was a boom?? wow! But I think that you dont know about the VW Golf Mk4.5, in Brazil, with its dubious facelift, (of which I quite like). Cheers!
Where is the rear seat belts
Still in the factory
loved the GTA2 soundtrack, kzread.info/dash/bejne/gJmJ19iPo7zZcrA.html
mk8 is better
Nice job on the production quality. I love the cursing with you and MCM...don't change anything.
Cheers!!
9:40 Liberty city stories
You got it 😎
I guess it should be .ie & none of this .co.uk nonsense….
Dad’s got a 2.0tdi cr Skoda Octavia vRS mk2 so basically a mk6 gtd but practical great car
Great content fella. Onwards and upwards. Pity u are merc lovers... lol. Vw all the way. Bought corrado door of you!
VWSa exported the first Jetta 2’s to China
Would love to see ye lads find a 306 Dturbo. All the farm lads had them when we were 17, many many headgaskets were blown from too much boost 😂
The Jetta isn't really THE VW for China, that was the Santana, they made millions of them. They were the first foreign car design to be made in China, they were EVERYWHERE in some cities (especially Shanghai where they were made).
Kako niko nije brinuo . Pa san momački je to brate moj na Balkanu.
I would give one of kidneys to have a mk2 gtd intercooled here in Canada. At least we got any td engines unlike the U.S
Very interesting content 😎 hello from down the road.
How down the road? 🤣
They still made the original beetle in Mexico till like 2018
It was a sinilar thing with the mid 90s Mirage/Lancer in China, but also included whole facelifts and reskins by Soueast. And apperrently, even the 2002-2007 Lancer saw sale in China allegedly as a Soueast or Mitsubishi. Both were brought to China by CMC of Taiwan who have a deal with Mitsubishi and in turn with Soueast.
Hello, or 1986-1989 were produced Golf Gti syncro?
Was just a syncro, wasn’t a GTI
VW being the peoples car isn't ironic. It's a direct translation!
….yes we know
the latest GTD is the perfect family hatch. 5liters fuel consumption, 250kmh top speed.
what? Diesel was the greatest revolution in the past 50 years, 90% of EU cars were diesel, petrol was almost extinct at one point, and all this can be contributed to VW, who pushed the TDI.
….did you actually watch the video? Thats literally what we said.
@@427Motorsports yes I did. But I wrote the comment before I watched, because of the title...I am not sure if people didn't care about gtd in the past, in my country GTDs were a cult back in the early 90s...everybody wanted to have one. Can't find any sales figures for old GTDs od GT TDIs
The Jetta was THE taxi car in China, pretty much throughout the country, together with the santana, they must have had 80% of the taxi market. in shenzhen they had the hongqi, or the Audi 100, China was full of german car designs, made in China.
gtd is golf tubo diesel not grand turismo diesel
So you think it’s called the Golf Golf? Really?
I am glad the algorithm has brought me here. Great videos. At 7:21 when you talk about the legendary PD engine the pic in the video is actually a distributor pump pre-PD TDI. The early MK4 GT TDI used this engine and I have one in my 2001 Audi A3. It is peak small diesel I think, smooth and powerful but simple and reliable, happy to run on biofuels.
Ah balls, that’s what happens when you rush! Cheers for pointing it out :)
Volkswagens from the II generation were built like a tank and weighed almost nothing. That was the time VW delivered quality. From generation III and on VW cheaped out on quality and never got over that. So it is not surprisable that a Chinese company was still building the very good Jetta II.
Unfortunately Ewe passed away. Besides being a superb driver she was very beautiful and sexy as you see in her videos and not a spec of dust in her clothes from the filthy roads where the raleighs took place. It's a pity seeing the rust on that beautiful W111, I would take more care of it and turn it to pristine conditions because as years pass this vintage car becomes more valued
Was like that when we got it, it’ll be a while before it’s saved but it will be!
I've had 3 VW Diesels (4 if you count the wifes). I currently have a mk1 Rabbit diesel with the 1.6L (sloooow) and a mk7 Golf 2.0L TDI. My wife drives a 2014 Beetle TDI, and I previously had a mk4 Golf TDI with the 1.9L ALH. All have been excellent cars. It's astounding how they've improved over the years. The difference between my mk1 and my mk4 is only 20 years, yet the driving experience between the two is night and day.
Nice vid - buy yerselves some feckin sweets or sommit.
Ah Guy thank you so much!! That means a lot to us, we really appreciate it :)
@@427Motorsports You know that KZread is teetotal so ...um ...as you see fit... Mr Guinness !
Nice video
Great story telling
Glad you enjoyed it!!
Always enjoy your story telling
Cheers Steven!! That means so much!
Only found your vids recently, enjoying them, much love from Tandragee
Cheers, love to see local folk tuning in!!
I see these around Tenerife all the time, it seems not a single owner ever sold their GTD, which is a testament to how fun and reliable these were!
To be fair if we had one we wouldn’t either 🙈
yeah, great stuff, great knowledge, thanks for this video! I have researched some of it too (even tho I'm not vw fan at all, I just like 80-90s motoring), I've watched some German guys driving some of these Chinese vw's (I can't remember if it was an old passat like b2 or even an old Santana, with some new dash and changes similar to what you have said about mk4 golf engine, clocks etc.), I've got to find this video again, to me owning an old car like that but factory new or almost new would be just insanely pleasurable. I have looked into Iranian or maybe it was Turkish Peugeots 405 as well, some time ago, that would be slightly easier to obtain.
I have a mk2 GTD turbo diesel. Great car, runs on anything pretty much
How about the mk 2 1.6 TD sb or Ra engine 80 hp diesel with intercooler
Mk4 "GT TDI" 150PS models (including 25th anni) are technically GTIs
So is every GTD technically 😂
The first MK4 models to wear the GT TDI badge had the 1.9 VE TDI unit with ASV engine code and were 110hp.
There are GTI TDIs, with ASV VP110 engines all the way through PD115 and upwards. GTI was a trim by then, with the GTD Trim being skipped on the mk4 and mk5, only returning on mk6s. Iirc there were both GT TDI and GTI TDI mk3s, but GTI TDIs were the rarer bunch with better interior trim and the mighty AFN VP110
The mark 4 it was a GTI TDI with a PD 150hp The mark 3 was GT TDI with a VP 1z 90hp and then later with a VP afn 110hp
don't the irish just prefer diesels for the red/green diesel?
To be honest, even those who’ve never ran on colourful diesel in their lives over here still love it. It seems to be a part of the culture.
I have a mk3 gt tdi, they better than gtd 🙃
I have to wonder what the fuel consumption of a 1.9sdi in a mk2 jetta shell is. must be even lower than the mk4 sdi.
Well, we regularly saw 50-55mpg out of our Mk2 with a Mk3 TDI fitted to it. The average MPG for a Polo with the 1.9 SDI is about 60. So it’s bound to get either 60 or more? I know aerodynamics will play a part but they weigh that much less it’s bound to balance out? Who knows!
