Fun video, were you in Delta this afternoon?
Thanks, Nope, we are back to the grind. 😊
Saw a group of 4 go past yesterday and I swear one of them was a moped but it was pretty far away. Then saw them again this morning meeting up with 2 more at the diner. There is indeed still some interest in the route.
Nice! What state are you in
Thanks! Wisconsin
What is the T shaped mount in the middle for? A kayak?
It is designed as a kayak mount, but I had the crossbar made a little longer, I use it for longer lumber or an extension ladder. I have them at the exact height of my roof rails.
You need to watch Whitetail Habitat Solutions?
Ya, I'm very familiar with Jeff's ideas. If you watch my other video about spraying Glyphosate and seeding the same day I reference him. He loves Winter Rye as well. www.grandviewoutdoors.com/diy-land-management/video-a-1-day-food-plot-planting-plan Thanks for watching.
Waiting to dry up a little here in Indiana! Other than that, I got 1st spraying done with simazine on switch grass and 24D - R Up on plots areas. Wanting to mow old switch if it stops raining. Save some rain for this summer, Mother Nature, in case you read this.
You’re not alone about your thoughts on food plot. It’s comforting hearing you decide what to do.
Thanks much, I appreciate you checking it out.
Not sure if you’re a neillsville local or not, but I live in neillsville and would be interested in tagging along possibly on a winter wheeling adventure if you do some this year?
My guess is XOP will eventually discontinue the Retrograde because that thing is STUPID small.
It is pretty small, but Saddle guys may use it. I prefer the Elevate, but for a nasty walk in with 3 or 4 sticks, I like it.
I've been around a long time. I don't particularly care for the way today's stands hook up to the tree when compared to the older style that accommodates the strap at a higher location enabling a solid connection to the tree that seems to me to be easier. All you have to do is lock on to the tree with the platform upright and then simply push the platform down to a firm connection. It is just easier to handle for me. Thanks for the comparison.
Great video! Very helpful and informative! I think I might go with the Elevate Ultra next season.
Thanks, it is a sweet little stand.
I would be so mad
Lol.. it was fun to watch. Filling your tag early is always a catch 22. :)
Looks delish!
I’ve seeded and sprayed immediately after and had good results
As soon as glyphosate hits the soil its neutralized. You can seed right after you spray. On my farm the well water hadn't been used for awhile and had a slightly brown color to it. We used it to mix with glyphosate and it didn't kill a thing. You also can't use stream water with it. I use a big 250 gallon container i fill with the city water at my house.
I definitely like how the sticks attach to the Elevate stand much better. They definitely gave it forethought.
I knew it was possible, but it’s nice to hear a first hand account in case I ever find myself in such a predicament. 👍

What’s the dimensions of that field?
Hello, It's around 500 yards x 30 yds. It's around an acre.
Around 500 yards x 30 yards
A section of this trail runs by my cabin in Clark County. I did a little scouting. I think some sections of non maintained roads in this area would be entertaining.
Nice
this is my favourite song
Lol. I sometimes call Glyphosate “Glysophate” too.
Ha, yep, I caught it myself as well. More importantly the deer are pounding the Rye. Lol
This past week I seeded 11 fields, cultipacked a spring planting of soil builder, then sprayed immediately afterwards. I noticed germination today when I inspected one field. I was following your thoughts totally.
thanks
Yep, my buddy was worried about the same thing, I said Jeff Sturgis does it, he wouldn’t tell you to if it didn’t work! I just did about the same thing but with brassicas, going to overseed with oats here in about 3 weeks.
You can actualy seed and fertilize then spray. This keeps you away and out of the field when the glyphosate has just been sprayed.
We just tried that this year. Without fertilizer though. Will see how it looks.
Just saw your video for the first time. What kind of fertilizer did you use? TY
I think I just did a 13-13-13. My clover looks awesome this year.
Why fertilize and spray? Let nature to do the work!
He had to spray to kill the grasses and weeds that he didn’t want in his plot. He fertilized for the new growth of the seed he just broadcast.
Everything you just explained sounds almost exactly like what happened to me. This is my first year with food plots. I watch every video from Jeff Sturgis. I sprayed in May, June and July but came back in August with tall weeds. I didn't use 24d. I seeded into weeds and then sprayed and then layered. It is looking pretty good right now.
Good video. Did you consider some oats to sweeten it up? He doesn't talk a lot about it but he adds oats. The deer didn't hit my rye only plot last yr so I added wheat and oats to the rye this year. Good luck.
Looks great, I sprayed , let it dry, then seeded and had my son drive lawnmower with roller over the goldenrod and grass , the peas are popping up nicely and it's been 2 weeks so I put rye on top 2 days ago and it's rained good. Jeff Sturgis has an excellent system. Foodplots are amazing
I'm needing to say GOODJOB! Cause I did all those spray jobs at about same time you did. And got my winter rye seeded 2 days ago followed by most of the day rain yesterday, today is Sept 5th. Can't wait to get germination. I know it will happen soon cause I threw half handful of seed in stone in the barn lot 6 days ago and it's already 1 inch high.will do layering like Jeff Sturgis recommended maybe next week. Anyhow enjoy your season this year and good luck to you from some flat land hillbilly in Indiana.
