Family Farming in Crisis

Family Farming in Crisis

What happens to America's food supply when farming becomes too expensive for small and medium-sized family farms? Well-intended policies are making it more difficult for many farmers to remain in business. We share some of the challenges that modern family farmers face in effort to educate our community about the issues so we can create practical solutions to help small and medium-size farms thrive. After all, everyone's got to eat.

    It isnt only WA apples. Every state's family farms are endanged. Come to think of it all small businesses are too. But family farms are most critical. America loses its soul without them. I could have been the third generation to run our family's farms, but we had all the liabilities and risks but earned less than the average truck driver. Regulatory burdens and dirty pool manipulations by corporate interests (among other challenges) squeezed us out a few decades ago. If we had the imagination and the internet then we might have had a fighting chance. I go out of my way to buy direct whenever I can. I hope everone else who sees this will as well.

    The state and federal EPA’s along with the environmental groups are destroying this nations ability to be self-sufficient. I don’t know if it is by design or if they are unaware of what they are doing, but I don’t really think it’s the latter.

    Who was it that trained the Bolsheviks to end 20 million Kulaks ? That same tribe is leading the far left agenda for ultimate control over all humanity. That same tribe is genociding a certain group in the middle east right now. To name this tribe results in automatic censorship. Hint: Frankfurt School. Understand who is doing this to us and what is their endgame.

    Government subsidizes farmers every year. They still cannot make as small family farms. Americans do not want those jobs, now there is a war on using migrant labor, and those workers rarely get paid fairly or get healthcare etc. The land us worth more than the fruit here. Big Ag can make it like McDonald's. Plus, the kids of these farmers rarely want to keep on the farming tradition.

  • @pipergilbert6079
    @pipergilbert60792 ай бұрын

    The war on migrants and prejudices on them, the lack of willing American workers to take on low paying, hard jobs, mostly with no benefits also plays a roll in this labor crisis.

    Quit crying. Get off your ass and go issue some criminal complaints against the Democratic and Republican parties for deprivation of rights under color of law and charge and Sue every member of the bar association in blue wall of Silence who Shields them from prosecution. Conspiracy to deprive rights under color of law via interference in Commerce and unlawful conversion of legislative offices into instruments of crime are felonious violations of 18 USC sections 241, 242, 641, 1951, 1961, and 2384. There is no good reason for all our small farms to go out of business. It is all about money and control in the hands of the rich and powerful. Nearly all the jobs we did as kids in Whatcom County and other places are gone. There is nothing good about out that either.

    Big corporations are buying the farms, Bill Gates owns acers and acres of farmland, I believe its Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk as well, they are also buying 1000's of single family homes, this is driving the price UP !! Its absolutely criminal. And the BIG hospital owners are buying all the private doctor practice. My doctor of 25+ years had his own practice, now he's under the umbrella of The Everett clinic. The BIG guys are shoving down impossible rules forcing private practices on to extinction !! BIG $$ forces BIG changes all in their favor!!

    Bless this woman and her family and farm… she has fought the fight. Damn this is a hard gig… you feel like a failure when all you’re trying to do is grown clean, real food and get it into the community… Hardest work I’ve ever done and the hardest lessons in loss I’ve ever had to endure. God bless the farmers.

    The government is purposely trying to destroy american farmers. Because the government is getting under-the-table money from foreign countries farms. Democrats are the worst of the politicians because Dems dislike the independent spirit.

    I’m in tears watching this. I’m a small farmer who’s doing a small amount of farming on my 7 acres in Delaware. I’ve added agrotourism to my property to help some of the cost. I’m just learning and have been doing this for 4 years now with my husband. We have animals veggies on a small level. It’s hard to have people relate to what really goes on with farming and respect it. I can’t even think about paying people and volunteers are scarce. They have no idea of the true grit and they think it’s a novelty but this is who (farmers) feeds the world.

    I agree completely. We rolled up our farm in WA in 2022 and personally took on the tens of thousands of debt and are working to finish paying off the debt while returning to construction to make a living… there was no way to recover financially from crop failure, forest fires causing lettuce to taste “smoked”.. the lessons we learn we carry forward - but the loss of our farm and our food into the community we lived in will be felt by all. Through Covid we lost all our restaurants that had to close, we had to pivot to Farmers Markets - same problems.. Delicious and flavorful veggies are passed by those who say “I can buy eggs and tomatoes at WalMart…” 😢No, you definitely do not get the same quality at conventional superstores…. A terrifying shift in society. The margins in small farming are not sustainable. There are not enough of us to make a difference and politicians don’t give af…. The masses prefer Frankenfood and cheap prices… gross.

    Where I grew up, a lot of Amish and Mennonite families are coming in and buying up vacant farms. Without them, these farms and their land would continue to sit there, wasting away. My family farm was sold in 1999 to another family who continues to run it today. Another family farm is being sold to a local farm family farm the next town over. The current owners aren't capable or interested in running it, and there no longer is a next generation to take over as we lost him to cancer last summer. This is the last farm in my hometown. All of the others have closed due to an aging population combined with increasing costs and decreasing profits, especially in the dairy industry. It's sad that this is happening.
