I'm considering this as my first "40 Series" game and I find I'm a little put off by the rather lackluster ending... it seemed like quite a grind of a scenario, without much movement or maneuver, and then a race against a clock that ended up being a bit anti-climactic. I'm not looking for a game I play once and then never want to get on the table again... did you ever come back to this one, or was it really just too much of a slog?

A couple of years late but here I am. Played this a few months back which is why I was looking for playthoughs, see if I messed up anything. I noticed your last videos are from a year ago. Not sure if this channel is done or on hiatus but I'll still watch many of the others here that are of interes5.

I think you do errors in the retreat of rangoon. According to gmt version rules, first of all you must retreat the broken units, and the allies in your video have 2 units (remember to hit these 2 units losing 1 step each) and then you check for the allies' ground units that were not broken.

I am curious if there are better games to play in this genre, and which are better to solo, such as Empire of the Sun, with the CDG solo module? Do you recommend any other medium/heavy good Pacific WW2 games?

This video needs the following: a script, an editor, and a point; but it lacks all three.

I noticed that our video maker did not comment on your question and I'm just reading it now. The game (as u may kn by now) does have variants. One is that only 9 Prussians show up, the other is more than that, the other is less and a last variant is that the Fernch (Grouch)shows up. So 4 or 5 variants depending on the die roll.

Thank you so much Ryan! This has helped me so much and gave me the push to finally punch and sort all my counters! Am using same sorting system - Am almost done clipping so will finally get this to the table much faster! Appreciate the time you took to make this video! Am curious now that you played the game some what your thoughts are on the way you arranged the counters before getting it to the table - any changes you would recommend? Cheers!

I have played this game several times. Here is why I like it. 1. You can finish a game in 2 hours. 2. You can easily teach it to non-wargamers. 3. The Allies do not know which scenario card the German player has chosen which makes this game endlessly re-playable. 4. As the German player, you actually have a chance to cross the Meuse. 5. The mechanics are simple. 6. The step system means you don't have to have big stacks of units. 7. It captures the flavor of the overall battle. Germans start with a bang but every effing turn more US units keep showing up and they quickly start forming blocks at the key road junctions.

Just saw this video. For background, it should be noted that SPI was the original publisher of both Napoleon at Waterloo (1971) and Napoleon's Last Battles (1976), so it's no surprise that they have common elements.

The 1st expansion Serpents of the Seas is up for p500 reprint on GMT right now for those interested. It contains smaller frigate actions as well as most of the US engagements from 1812, the Revolution, and the Quasi-War.

Personally, I love the Hasbro AA pc game from the 90’s. It plays quickly, you can customize unit costs, strength, adjust rules, victory conditions, etc. Plus it’s fun to play those games to completion, whereas the board game generally ends in minor victory or surrender, rather than a long war of attrition to a probable outcome.

Thanks a lot for this review! I played the original game as a kid and loved it. When you grow up you start seeing it's flaws. I'm teaching my 9yr old boy to play it now. He loves it. You mentioned at the end that the newer 1941 version is best in your opinion? Can you explain why you think that? I see you didn't make a video on it yet 😜

I'd make movement costs lower, but poor terrain causes disorder (a Morale hit?) - which you have to spend one or two MPs to recover from. (All orders should allow recovering a Morale hit.) And I still think you need facing at this scale.

I have the "Napoleon at Waterloo" program for PC and what surprises me is that the cavalry does not charge, that is, it does not double its combat factor... the heavy cavalry of the French guard or the English reserve continue with their low combat factor 4, this does not fit me and has missed me a lot.

Fertile ground to learn though. You can always concoct your own scenarios with a handful of vessels to eliminate the potential paralysis of choice.
