    I downloaded the Beta version of MD3, in comparison to MD2, it has many, many features. But almost confusing, on what to do and how to do it. MD2 is a little more basic almost easier to understand. I feel that I don't know enough about keyboards or midi instruments to understand. I hope when MD3 does come out, they have a full on tutorial on how use MD3. Besides the content LoFieif puts out. By the way, thanks for putting all your videos out, thanks to you I was able to understand MD2.

  • @lofileif

    Yes, MIDI Guitar 2 is certainly more basic, but you don’t need to use everything in in MG3 to begin with either. Use the MINI patch and ease your way into the rest of the new functions. Of course you need to be able to tell an MPE synth apart from any legacy MIDI synth to be able to do the relevant settings, but that is really it. But sure, I understand the need for a full tutorial. But what is more interesting: video or a PDF document?

    @@lofileif Hey, thanks for the answer, honestly I know creating videos is a pain, but you are helping the whole MD2 & MD3 community ! Hi, I love your videos. They are helping me to crawl along with learning Midi Guitar 3. I would like to make one suggestion. Many times you are showing a main picture of you and a screen view of Midi Guitar 3 - On a laptop the screen is quite small and it would be nice if you had more shots of the Midi Guitar 3 view that were full screen so that I could follow more easily the voice descriptions of the layouts.

    Good concept but I've tried the beta for an hour and I'm not satisfied. Whatever settings I tried (input gain, gate, strike, pressure, midi mode and tone) I've got missing notes or random notes popping out which are not actually played (I think it's because of the natural resonances every guitar has). Let's say it doesn't respond how it should. I've tried it with piano V2 and a bunch of other presets of various synths. It works decently with monophonic instrument but with polyphonic instruments I think it's pretty far from being decently usable. Works quite fine for Chord stabs but when you start to do fast arpeggios and strums...No. If I'm doing something wrong, I'll appreciate any suggestion.

  • @lofileif
    @lofileif17 күн бұрын

    Ok, so you think your test shows that the software sucks? You have higher standards than most people, and that is ok. I believe a guitars’ resonance have way smaller impact on the output/tracking than the way we play our notes. We need to (re)learn how to play guitar with this software exactly in the same way Seaboard players or Linnstrument players need to learn their controllers. An hour might be just enough for you to make up your mind, but it takes a little longer to learn the ins and outs of this software. You are welcome to try again later if you feel so inclined. I dismissed MG2 in a similar way the first time I tried it. Took me a coulple of years to try again, but let me tell you - I am not sorry I did. We are already achieving highly usable MPE MIDI with Audio to MIDI software i my opinion. Just go to my videos. I promise you, I am not lying or faking anything. If you think they suck as well, then you just have very very high standards. And that is ok too. 👍

  • @mttlsa686
    @mttlsa68617 күн бұрын

    @@lofileif I edited the comment because "sucks" was rude and too much (it's pretty fine for chord and monophonic instruments) and it wasn't my intention to insinuate you are lying or faking. I was just expressing my honest thoughts. I don't know if this is the maximum we can actually achieve with software (so they did the best they can) but until what comes out from the speakers won't match what I'm playing, forcing me to play the instrument I play since 30 years in an unnatural way, I won't be satisfied. This is my "very high standard". I appreciate the intent and it could be helpful in the studio, even if not perfect, but I think it's far from being usable for an organic performance, and getting an accurate response/feeling, even if you re-learn to play guitar in the same way keyboard players do with MPE continuous controllers and there's a reason for it. MPE controllers are DIGITAL, like the computers they need to work and the MIDI protocol itself, while guitars are analog and I think that the harmonic resonance of every single guitar has a considerable amount of influence on the transformation, producing issues In note recognition and note bleeding. Anyway, I want to try it with a string dampener (which I don't have at the moment) on the guitar to see if it helps with these issues. 🤝 P.S. I'm exclusively talking about GUITAR audio to midi, not audio to midi in general.

  • @lofileif
    @lofileif17 күн бұрын

    @mttlsa686 You are of course entitled to your opinion. But my argument is this: the software doesn’t force you to do anything. It allows you to do certain things. And there is a diffence there that is not just semantics. If you want something, and the alternatives on offer comes with certain limitations or caveats, the alternatives aren’t bad neccesarily. You might not be satisfied, but that is not the same thing. I am going to assume you still believe that the software isn’t capable of more than you got out of it in the one hour you tried it since you haven’t asked for any tips or suggestion, so I guess you have another solution to fall back on?

So jsut connect you guitar diectly to an audio interface with nothing between, and you are good to go! 2. The trial is exactly the same software, but with some timeout function. Every system has its limitations of course, but I feel that the modularity and openness in MIDI Guitar 3 is going to stand up well against any fixed hardware solutions like Jamstik or even Fishman Triple Play, because of their rather rigid interfaces. It is not easy to go in and do precision assignments, adding particular functionalities. • @lofileif

    Sampletsnk is a particularly bad choice for a plugin to start with, because you really can’t set it up to recieve in OMNI mode, on all channels. MIDI Guitar 3 use the MPE protocol, which means it is sending out all notes together with values for pitchbend and other stuff on multiple channels at once, all the time. Sampletank can’t make sense of information sent this way, at this point in time. So you are better of starting with Kontakt. And there is really no difference using Kontakt in a DAW like Logic or Ableton from using it in MIDI Guitar 3. Open Kontakt and choose an instrument. You might want to take a look athe video about setting in Kontakt for a place to start? kzread.info/dash/bejne/iKRmsLyYpZnUj9I.htmlsi=xF9YXrnt9ixMYOed

    I am sure you can still experience the occasional rouge notes, depending on setup and playing style. It would be crazy to state otherwise. It is after all still a pitch to MIDI conversion process we are talking about. But is it a problem? Not for me, and once you’ve tried the demo you will know if it is or isn’t for you as well. 😀👍

    I had a red Steinberg bass just the same as the guitar you have there, I owned this in the late 80's, I joined a band and needed a Strat type guitar so I part ex'd it, the new new guitar was Bubble gum red/orange/pink with a black scratch plate and locking nut.....aaahhhh, those were the days, that bass was really tidy.....

    Hi Jack! First off I just want to thank you for this comment. It is one of the most heartwarming comment I have read on this channel. It is truly appreshiated, Especially so in these times, when there seems to be a shift in attitude which leads more people to treat eveyone around them as props or means to their personal goals. For me it becomes an issue when these individuals decide that I ”ought to do” this, that or the other because they ”want to see”. For the longest time I have been happy to help out with setups and technical advice. This from the sheer love for this technology. When people are treating me like an employee, snd they are the kind of people they treat employees as ”less than” I am no longer enthusiastic. But let me be clear in that I apprechiate the 98 percent postive and wonderful responses I get here, and I will not leave YT for Patreon completely. If I go to Patreon, it will work as a platform for communication for those with special interest in particular setups and settings perhaps. If you care to send me a mail my adress is [email protected]. Kind regards LoFiLeif/Thorleif

    When it comes to the live guitar sound in MIDI Guitar 3 everything is managed in the mixer. All three chains have the guiitar sound on them until you put any MIDI instrument on them. Are you perhaps asking about MG2?

    I use MG 2 for IOS since many many years, also the AU version. When will MG 3 for IOS hit the market? And do you expect it to have an improved tracking? No bells sand whistles for me, a simple but fast version would be great!

  • @lofileif
    @lofileif15 күн бұрын

    Sorry about the late answer. I didn’t see this for some reason. The best way to keep updated on the JamOrigin development progress is probably the beta page. www.jamorigin.com/beta/ The tracking is already vastly improved with the addition of MPE. You’ll have the opportunity to try the demo to see for yourself once it comes out for iOS. But I can’t imagine anyone interested in this technology be unhappy woth this, with less than they completely screw up in the initial setup. 👍

    On Mac OS what's the CPU footprint like in M3 from within a DAW like Ableton Live. I'd be interested to run this on my live set, but CPU utilization matters. From testing M2, it's good thus far.

  • @lofileif
    @lofileifАй бұрын

    MG3 is more CPU heavy than MG2. How much? I can’t say, I don’t have any data. You can try the beta, and see for yourself. But remember that this is still a work in progress, and that include the work on CPU effiency.

    How well would this work in a live situation? Is there latency that would make it difficult live? Thanks!

  • @lofileif
    @lofileifАй бұрын

    Well, I would probably use MIDI Guitar 3 over MIDI Guitar 2, since the tracking allows for a greater variety of synths (MPE included). The latency in itself is depending more on what softwre instrument you are using. Some are unplayable, and some feel like a natural extension of your guitar. Monitoring will also play a big part live, I guess. Best is if you test the software out for yourself, to see if it fits your style and needs: You can find the beta versions of MG3 here: www.jamorigin.com/beta/ If you still rather go for MG2: you can download them in trial mode as well: www.jamorigin.com/download/
