The bassist in this video appears to be the most advanced player of the group. Anyway, it all sounds good and let’s face it, y’all gotta love anything by Gordon Lightfoot!

I believe this was recorded July 26, 1991. Episode #409 from the TV show "The Lonesome Pine Specials," a television series that ran from 1986-1991 and was intended to document American music traditions and performers. Directed by Richard Van Kleeck and put out by TV stations WFPL and KET. Performances were filmed in the Bomhard Theater at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. #409: Alison Krauss and Union Station; Laurie Lewis & Grant Street, 1991-07-26, "Two highly talented stars of bluegrass music share the stage as Grammy Award winner/singer/fiddler Alison Krauss and singer/fiddler/songwriter Laurie Lewis perform with their bands for an exciting musical summit."

I grew up within range of WDBJ's signal and although we had a local radio station, it didn't sign on until 7:30 in winter months. We had to depend on the Roanoke TV stations to provide school closings, so we got hooked on "Top O' The Mornin'". I decided I wanted to play guitar like Red and received one for Christmas (unfortunately it was not a Martin). Irv Sharp was a great host and could really work that organ. Good memories (especially when he announced that our schools were closed).

What a great band. This mandolin player is sittin on top of the world and reminds me of Jesse Brock and the banjo player brings back memories of the great Allen Shelton from my hometown in North Carolina. I used to visit Jim & Jesse when they lived in the trailer park in Prattville, Alabama. They had 5 trailers in a row. Monroe Fields, Jim Brock, and Jim, Jesse, and Allen. Hope you can keep the band together. I was in a local bluegrass back in '63 and we made so much money the first year we had to retire.

He had actually flown to Kentucky to attend JD’s funeral service so his band kept the show going.
