Home A Roam

Welcome to Home A Roam!

We are documenting our transition from a traditional 9-5 lifestyle to one of freedom and the ability to choose our own adventure. We’ve quit our jobs, downsized our home, bought an RV, and then the pandemic hit. We patiently waited to hit the road on a grand adventure with our adventure cat, Benny.

And then, off we went! Across Canada and back. All over British Columbia. Snowbirding in California and Arizona. Spending the winter in Baja California and Baja California Sur.

Where will we go next? Please join us by subscribing to this channel.

And remember: Keep on living the life you've imagined! :-)

    Thanks to a ruling by the Supreme Court of B.C. some 30+ years ago, there is no limit to the length of stay for free camping on Crown Land. The only limitations are no building of permanent structures or interfering with timber values. Forest Companies can only lock gates to protect equipment in areas where they are actively logging

  • @HomeARoam

    The BC government is very clear in their rules for public use of crown land, and has published that a 14 consecutive day limit for camping on crown land is to be adhered to. Their website is here: portalext.nrs.gov.bc.ca/web/client/-/access-crown-land

    @@HomeARoam It would appear that the government with its 14 day camping limit has ignored the B.C. Supreme Court ruling. No one has challenged the Government 14 day limit, likely because given the size of B.C. and amount of Crown Land, the Government has no practical way to enforce the limit. Also worth noting that anti-logging protesters at Fairy Creek have been camped out for months, or is it years?

    How does the shade/canopy fare in windy/gusty conditions?

  • @HomeARoam
    @HomeARoam2 күн бұрын

    Hi, great question! We've had it out in a light breeze and it did great. It's been set up in our backyard for several weeks now and we get some after gusty conditions that tilted the canopy to the side a bit. We have not used it in really windy conditions and not sure we would because the canopy would then basically become a sail.

    The attempt at comparing Electric and water is incorrect. Voltage is equal to the water pressure, the current id equal to the amount of water flowing., Resistance is like the rocks and things the water has to overcome to flow.

    I'd recommend that you run the camera power wire out the bottom of the running light instead of the top to decrease any leakage issues. Include a little slack so that water drips off the wire and not into the light when it travels down the wire.

    Respectfully, stay out of truck stops. You folks take up spots for working truck drivers that need them. We run on government mandated clocks and don't have the luxury of finding spots to park, not to mention illegal to run out of hours. The blm lot looked just fine for an overnight spot. Making it hard for people to do their jobs and deliver goods to your favorite bakeries

    Whenever I take power from the house everything is fine I just can run AC. But whenever I run the generator which is 3200watts turn on the AC generator gets weak my panel in the Rv gets hot along with the cords please help I’m new to the Rv life

  • @HomeARoam
    @HomeARoam11 күн бұрын

    Hi, if it's a built-in generator, I would take it in to an RV repair shop to have a look at the panel and wiring. If they are heating up significantly, that's a really bad thing and could lead to a fire. If it's an external generator, are you running it on a 30amp cable (ie. the big thick one?) You definitely won't be able to run an air conditioner on a regular 15 amp extension cord. That would also be dangerous and risk starting a fire.

    Yes, Starlink prices have gone up a lot! At first they offered unlimited high priority bandwidth as well, but then they capped it, and now they've removed the cap but essentially made the standard plan "best effort" (ie. slower) service.

    Hi! Thanks for watching our video and asking a great question. Beyond what we've already said in the video, just be open to having a cultural experience and to be prepared that things aren't always going to be the same as at home. But that's why we travel, right? For your dog, it's really important that s/he be microchipped and have vaccines up to date (and bring copies of proof). A good flea/tick/heartworm prevention and deworming is important too. Your vet can help get you all set up with that before you go. Be prepared for loose dogs almost everywhere you go. Some will be nice and some won't be.

    Greetings from just a wee bit north of Vaseux Lake. Burnell was named for the original family who had a sawmill there, so the locals still call it "Sawmill Lake". The power is for an aerator which keeps the fish alive over the winter. The local fish and wildlife clubs installed and maintain it. The cows used to belong to a close friend of mine and I spent many days over the past 25 years moving them around the range by the lake. He sold the grazing area to another ranch family from one valley west a couple years back. It does get hot there in summer for sure. There are bears so take precautions with food storage. Safe travels.

    Shockingly few people stopped at all! There was only one person that asked if we had tow straps (which we didn't unfortunately). They wanted to help, but they didn't have tow straps either. On the beaches in Baja, anytime someone got stuck, there was always a mass of folks that came out of nowhere to help. But here on SPI, if we hadn't been able to self-rescue the next morning, we would've had to phone a tow truck.
