What a shame the ship was scrapped. This was one of my favorite memories of visiting Sand Diego.
Maritime Museum San Diego 680 subscribers Correct me if I'm wrong, but.... Is that the same exact H.M.S Surprise that was featured in the iconic 2003 film "Master and Commander"?
Yes it is.
Maritime Museum San Diego 680 subscriber Cool! But what about the French Privateer warship Acheron herself? From what I've heard is that the Acheron was portrayed and both depicted by a combination of an actual ship at sea, scale models, and elaborate boat rigs that were created during the production on Titanic.

The first San Salvador was originally built in the province of El Salvador part of the kingdom of Guatemala, THe San Salvador was named after the main city of that territory the city of San Salvador founded in 1525 actual capital city of El Salvador, the ship was built in the Jiquilisco bay, it was then dispatched to Puerto Navidad in Mexico and it sailed from there to the coasts of modern day California
This is a caravel - a galleon would have multiple decks and be much larger (and more unwieldy :) Edit: Turns out that galleons come in a variety of sizes and weight classes. Please disregard previous comment. I was thinking of the big wallowing double- and triple-deck galleons.
So no head?
Poop Deck
Will I be thrown overboard if I sing sea shanties while on the ship?
Hahahaha this guy is a dick to this little girl hahahaha
I was being born that day, Mercy Hospital San Diego’s Hillcrest Area. The nuns kept the news from my mom and other patients. What a time to be alive and I still feel that way. Just astonishing exponentially at every orbit 🌎🪐🌙✨☀️
This may be a children’s video but I’m 52 and thought it was great!
They teach us about plane history but somehow ships get forgotten
And at the end, oceans and seas are the nerve of intercontinental goods shipping in the world! I've focused more on the economic aspect in my short videos :) Just started, but getting insights from your channel and similar ones. THANK YOU!
A great video marred by a poor quality transfer. Please re-encode

So, what was the name if Tim's Jimmy Buffet cover band circa 1991? Parrot Heads? ( he interviewed my brothers and I for his human interest TV show. I spent a couple hours with him. We were Case Brothers Funituremakers, in the Belly Up building)
Buffett cover band in the 80s was "Buffed Out”
@@sdmaritime Thanks for the trivia answer. I've queried KFMB hoping they have a copy of the segment in their archives.
For good and for ill. The San Salvador is a important part of modern History for California. The replica and its history must be preserved, and the people it influenced or impacted must be preserved as well. Both the good and the bad.
mate- stuning .:))
I was made aware of the San Salvador from watching Huel Howser's California's Gold 7.15.22.
This is awesome guys! Great work, great documentary.
