What a shame the ship was scrapped. This was one of my favorite memories of visiting Sand Diego.

Maritime Museum San Diego 680 subscribers Correct me if I'm wrong, but.... Is that the same exact H.M.S Surprise that was featured in the iconic 2003 film "Master and Commander"?

Maritime Museum San Diego 680 subscriber Cool! But what about the French Privateer warship Acheron herself? From what I've heard is that the Acheron was portrayed and both depicted by a combination of an actual ship at sea, scale models, and elaborate boat rigs that were created during the production on Titanic.

The first San Salvador was originally built in the province of El Salvador part of the kingdom of Guatemala, THe San Salvador was named after the main city of that territory the city of San Salvador founded in 1525 actual capital city of El Salvador, the ship was built in the Jiquilisco bay, it was then dispatched to Puerto Navidad in Mexico and it sailed from there to the coasts of modern day California

This is a caravel - a galleon would have multiple decks and be much larger (and more unwieldy :) Edit: Turns out that galleons come in a variety of sizes and weight classes. Please disregard previous comment. I was thinking of the big wallowing double- and triple-deck galleons.

So, what was the name if Tim's Jimmy Buffet cover band circa 1991? Parrot Heads? ( he interviewed my brothers and I for his human interest TV show. I spent a couple hours with him. We were Case Brothers Funituremakers, in the Belly Up building)

For good and for ill. The San Salvador is a important part of modern History for California. The replica and its history must be preserved, and the people it influenced or impacted must be preserved as well. Both the good and the bad.
