    We are about to land on Mars. We are about to have robots running around everywhere. We have naval vessles that can stay under water indefinitely. We can form small black holes in a giant tube. Do you think maybe we can get a fuel gauge on a motorcycle?

    Well. First comment on a YT clip. Wowee!I know it’s 3 years on but I can tell you I rode a test bike alongside the salesman who had an identical model. I liked the idea of a massive opposed twin. Lots of torque. Well the bike I rode had a strange clutch take up when moving away and when stationary with the clutch lever out, either in gear or neutral, there was a knocking noise and an in sync vibration that went away the moment the clutch was pulled in. The sales guys bike did not display this. I was told that there was a torque limiting device in the clutch a bit like a slipper set up but the details could not be made clear. The bike was inspected by their tech guy later and he said that the noise and vibratory knock was normal. Unusual as the salesman’s own bike showed no sign of similar noises. BMW parts diagrams show the clutch as a component group with the only individual parts being some screws. The diagram is very rudimentary and shows no relevant detail. One can only presume that the screws are available for technicians who might disassemble the clutch and can’t be re used. What the point of this would be if no other parts are available is outside my experience. The friction plate is not available as a seperate part nor is the torque limiting mechanism which it is assumed is part of the clutch component group and I suspect the source of the noise/ vibration/knocking. The clutch group price is frightening. I could only find an online price in the UK and that was nearly 1600 GB pounds. The riding position is very uncomfortable and that does not foster safe machine control. I wanted to like the bike but it was the worst motorcycle riding experience I have had. And all the more disappointing as I have been a lifelong BM guy. Apart from the mechanical issue a taller more forward riders seat would have nearly made the ride perfect. I suppose what I would have liked was an R nine T with the R18 engine, a 70s universal German motorcycle with seeming limitless torque. My goal would be to get increased torque without increased revs and so the idea of a massive twin sounded attractive.

    Well it’s priced over the cost of the Honda XR650 and the Suzuki DR650 and I’d bet everyone would choose one of those and have that extra $2k to spend on accessories.

    That’s odd most motorcycle reviews say the brakes on the ZX-10R 2021 are “wooden” and the ABS intervenes too much. I have never heard of them being described as awesome!

    Not sure a round town bar hopper bike needs a 1800cc bike. The road king has a bigger fuel tank and you can add the windshield and still see the speedo at least…..These bikes are selling at huge discounts at the local,BMW dealership where I live 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

    Sorry, there is no touring capability with this bike. They DID NOT listen to the customer! 4 gallon tank and no fuel-gauge. I had the Classic and sold it due to those two things being a BIG limitation. Shame that BMW begs for an owners opinions and totally ignores the biggest reason people don't buy it in the first place.

  • @duosable

    How was the wind protection on R18C? There are people complaining about wind buffeting which could be the most limiting factor for highway touring. I can live with no fuel gauge and small tanks, because I own an iron 883 and r nine t; what a ritual to shake the bike and feel the range.

  • @cg1288
    @cg128810 ай бұрын

    @duosable I found the windshield on the Classic to be about a 7.5 to 8.25 out of 10. I am 5' 7" tall, btw. I also had footpegs instead of floorboards if you want to know. They were probably less comfortable than floorboards, but way more room to reach shifter.

    @@duosableI had a Road King before the GSA, the large tank and fuel gauge were a must for me but I threw the windshield away. The GSA had it all but I do like cruisers, if this thing gets a bigger tank and a fuel gauge . .. well I just might . . . and then there’s the suspension travel, the Harley had nearly none and the GSA had over three times as much. Maybe I’ll just get a GS instead 😂😂😂

    If those two things are such a game breaker for you then why did you buy one ?… it not like they keep it a secret until you buy one.

  • @cg1288
    @cg128810 ай бұрын

    @johncleaver4245 I thought I could live with it. I really enjoyed it as a highway bike until I tried to actually use it for that purpose. Those two things I thought I could live with quickly became its Achilles heel. And then there was this. I spend a lot of time away from home, and when I did want to ride. I could never remember the last time I fueled.

  • @AustralianRoadRider

    Hey, you're correct… although most 'air-cooled' new motorcycles are technically 'air-oil' cooled (indeed, a primary function of oil is to cool the engine, even in bikes which don't have an oil cooler). That said, I take your point.

    You are the first person to mention the need to the kneepads in Front of the knees instead of sliding to the left or right. I'd been silenced by soooO many companies and reviewers not thinking twice about this issue with all their regular or loose jeans like its not that big a deal.. But i somehow kept thinking that they very much are! So i thought id buy a pair of the draggin or klim and stitch two lines of velcro circling above and below the knee joint to keep the knee armor sitting firmly in Front of my 'Patella' at all times. Happy to hear Australian law is making stricter requirements as you say. Thank you for this video review.
