Hi, I used Vitcas heatproof adhesive. Normal board adhesive may well work but thought I’d belt and brace it. I’ve literally just done another log burner a few weeks ago in my new house. Throughly enjoyed it yet again. Didn’t photo document it in as much detail this time. I went with a Portway Arundel XL stove. It has a huge viewing window and more Morden than the previous Stockton 4. Best of luck 👍🏻

  • @MGVELO

It had an arch. I believe it had one above. I put a lintel in purely for levelling off square plus it added a bit more strength not that it needed it. I’ve moved house now and am going to be doing another install on our new house in a couple of months time that’s around 18-20years old which is likely to have its own problems to overcome 👍🏻

Thanks, this is great and exactly what I'm planning to do. I have also got ridiculous quotes for this (I'm near Brighton) for what looks like less than a days work for a pro and materials that are not that crazy expensive. I already have a chimney ready to go, I just need a stove put in... You say that if you want a proper job doing then its always best to get he professionals round. I don't agree with this. Often "professionals" are in a hurry, cut corners and have sloppy workmanship. An amateur with attention to detail will often do a better job. Many thanks again

Absolutely brilliant tyres, not as hard to fit as some would have it, it just takes a bit of thought and they are a doddle. Best to fit standard tubes first, leave them on for 24 hours then change to latex, they can then be fitted using hands only. They are fast, climb very well and descend even better, the grip is excellent in both wet and dry conditions and the ride is very supple, without doubt t amongst the very best tyres I have used, expensive but look out for discounts and they are worth every penny.

Ended up drilling out the top cablestop and running continuous housing all the way to rear derailleur. Giant's design is horrendous with way too many bends and friction and introduces extra spring resistance/slop that is close to impossible to overcome. My local Giant mechanic's solution was Di2 - just gave up.

Mmmm. Eddt430 - Careful on the assumption that an arch of bricks will be secure. Many years ago when opening up a fireplace in a kitchen the same assumption was made and you have never seen 2 blokes run around so quickly to grab some old joists to shore up the bricks as they started collapsing 😀 They are not expensive - not worth the risk. And make sure you fit them the right way up too.
