Why are there humps rather than totally flat at the reduced level dig @0:05 ? Does it not make hardcore application & compacting more difficult @0:18 ?

Is there a reason why the cavity openings for e.g. around the windows apertures cannot be closed and blocked up with something like thermalite blocks?

In the UK it is a National House Building Council (NHBC) requirement to apply a damp proof course (DPC) over each lintel to protect it, this allows any water that gets into the cavity to transfer across the sloping face of the lintel on the DPC and be released externally via weep holes. The DPC is turned up at the ends to ensure the water is not directed into the cavity. Hope this helps
