Read the book of Jezebel by Hazelton. It dispels lot of the bible stories about her. She was the wife of a ruler, no different than any other at the time, but what she was, with her husband, was opening their nation to what is basically freedom of religion. Her kingdom along with others nearby, allied by marriage were peaceful, cosmopolitan, prosperous and open to all faiths. And the local fundamentalists didn't like that, so they staged a coup. Left the nations destroyed, people scattered, economy in tatters, but at least those left were worshipping correctly.
