    Hey DX-Rev. Its cool you just put this video up a couple of months ago. I have the same radio that I saved from the dumpster. It came out of an old straight truck. It's nowhere near as good condition at the one in the video... It's scratched and is missing a knob but the interesting thing is that mine is not exactly like yours. Mine doesn't have the knob on the back. I think you said yours is for talkback. Mine has a white ticker covering the hole in the case. Another difference I noticed is that the knob on the front closest to the channel selector knob is labeled A.M.T on mine. I really do not have any knowledge of 10 meter radios. My cb radio knowledge is limited to the couple different truck stop radios I have used on the road. If you would like, I'd be happy to send you some pictures of mine. Cool video bud!

    I'd be livid to get a new radio that was scuffed like that from the factory. I won't even comment about the issue with the fan, or the clarifier not being centered. Not impressed at all....

    A dead-on 10 MHz frequency counter will jump back and forth between 9.9999 and 10.0000 MHz because that's the point where a digital display reads exactly on a given frequency. That's the cross-over point between digits and as close as it can read between digital steps. To get the display to simply sit on 10.0000 you would want to feed it a frequency like 10.00003 MHz.

    I've always thought that the same thing with these radios about the 6 digit counter.

  • @DX-Rev
    @DX-Rev22 күн бұрын

    Yeah. 90% of them do that. Once in a while a lucky one that’s stable. The older counters in the metal shielded box were much more stable.

    Agreed. This is also a known issue with Ranger / RCI radios made in the last 5-10 years or so. The 5 digit frequency counter is fine for 99% of purposes. Having said that, I’ve had several export radios with the external 6/digit frequency counter (FC-60), the older red LED version and the newer FC-347 / FC-390 version with the blue LEDs and neither of them had the issue.

    I don't like the color changing LEDs I don't have them in my radios and I never will have them in my radios as that saying goes if it ain't broke don't fix it just saying 73s

    My problem is, I have a pair of these with $430 in them each, was selling them for $300 each on eBay and nobody would buy them. They kept asking me to do all these mods and still sell them below cost. Instead, I just did all the stuff and charge like everyone else. It’s sad when these are now selling for $500+ and I can’t even give them away for $300 on eBay without doing all this. lol

    @@DX-Rev it's like this if they want echo boards and their radios peaked and tuned then go ahead and do that but on the other hand just tell them that they don't need the led changing bulbs in them

    I'm getting ready to attempt my first ever recap' on my Washington 858... What filter cap did you use on your power supply. I was just going to replace it with the 3300pf that I found in it... How much bias changing did you end up messing with when you put the 1969 in? Was it a Mitsubishi or one of the Hg's? I liked and followed because you are easy to listen to and I am finding your content very helpful! 73 de KF4LBG "Saltshaker " North Florida

    All those CB Base Stations back in the day was awesome. Big brand names to the almost unknown. My father was into CB in the 60's and owned a few different radios. His favorite old base 23 channel radio was the - USL Contact 23A. Never cared for the CB trucker lingo stuff and all that, but liked evening rag chewing on AM. So many companies building radios back then. They wasn't all that cheap either. I paid $550.00 for mine in 1978. I liked to talk skip (ssb dx'ing) on the upper channels. I like this radio better then those RCI 69's and the likes .. 2995++ and etc. This one has an uncomplicated clean, but sharp look to it. It looks a bit like a piece of test equipment. :) Would like to see more companies build bases instead of just mobiles. Nowadays its like mtd and the mowers.

    Hey Rev. I have a bit of an odd question, what power supply is in that radio. The reason i ask is it looks the same size as the mean well RS-100-12 in the Galaxy DX-2547. if so I'm thinking i could swap the higher amperage PSU into my 2547 and put a RFX95-HD in my radio and not have to use an external PSU.

    I would spend money on one for SSB if they would fix the RCI-Ranger-Galaxy World Famous Drift . It’s a shame they’ve made so many nice radios for SSB and they’re terrible and won’t stay on frequency . A few if the older base stations are great , like Jungle Joe (UDX-791) , I think he runs an older 2980 WX ,, it sounds really stable on the transmit , but anyway ,, as usual, they screwed up and didn’t do the clarifier correctly. Something else that the owner will have to spend money on to get modified and upgrade the power supply

    I picked up a 2547 new for my first station and hate it, I have two stations somewhat close to me and when they key up it overdrives my receiver to the point I have to turn my gain levy low. But then I can’t receive the stations further away. I’ve been told they don’t have a automatic gain control
