    The way headscarves are worn in this video was how we all wore ours in that decade. The late Queen Elizabeth looked particularly attractive in scarves tied under the chin.

    This market back in the day use to be packed on Saturdays you could hardly move. Now it’s so dead and empty. How times have changed. I use to go market on Saturdays with my mum and sister. My highlight was Woolworths and the pick n mix. Then going for pie mash & licker. Sad to see what has become of Walthamstow market, especially being born and raised there. And how time has flown I’m now 40

    Wasn't that back then when Walthamstow was an Essex town?

  • @8mmtodigital
    @8mmtodigital Жыл бұрын

    Yes I think it was part of Essex in the early 1960s before it was merged with Leyton and Chingford in the later part of the 60's

  • @Great_WesternTVFan
    @Great_WesternTVFan Жыл бұрын

    @@8mmtodigital it did merge with Leyton and Chingford because the suburbs of the towns that surrounded the original London County Council (referred to the inner london boroughs) had grew and linked with all of the other nearby towns in their historic Essex, Kent, Surrey, Middlesex and Hertfordshire counties.

    So strange to see so many places I recognise. A lot of what is shown in this film in 1960 was still around in 1968 when my family moved to Edmonton. The now demolished school and college building on Montagu Road. The flats in Jeremy’s Green can be seen in the background. The alley that is still there today that runs from behind Montagu Gardens to Montagu Road. Lower Fore St, where Cooks and Jones were (opposite todays Asda, just before what was the Broadway). Church Street travelling in the direction of Edmonton Green, and the old houses on Ascot Rd. I don’t recognise the location where the policeman is seen riding his bike. Any idea?

    During my time there, the headmaster was Jones. We called him jug head. Another teacher, Mr John we called bomber. Another teacher who was my favourite was Ami. I saw him nine years later standing in Elizabeth street, Sydney, Australia. I have always been sorry that I was unable to stop and talk to him. At 36secs. The building that you see only from the rear was the caretakers. At 53secs was the wood working building. The buildings you see behind that is Jeremys Green, where I lived. At 59secs the building nearest to the camera was where we had our meals, but I think was used for some of the time as infants school.
