    That Atreides sounds so cool....what else are you running in your chain there?

  • @SUMOBAND
    @SUMOBAND5 ай бұрын

    The Atreides is definitely a fun one, especially stacking it with certain overdrives. If you want to hear a good example, that disgusting growl between the intro and start of LB-1 is the Atreides and Nunez ABC together (with a volume swell). The rest of the stuff has changed a little and will be changing again soon thanks to Trickfish (no spoilers) so, there’ll be an updated video with a better view soon. 😬 Amado - SUMO

    Weird question: How do you think this'd fare as a "guitar head"? I'm looking for something that can dish out heaps of wattage with moderately hefty low end while still staying glassy/airy on top for Bass VI duties. Thanks!

  • @SUMOBAND
    @SUMOBAND9 ай бұрын

    This is something I haven’t thought of but, we could easily test out in a few hours (practice time and all). Chris uses 8 string guitars and we could easily test that. Sticking to just the BassVI or using conventional 6 string guitars as well? Either way, I’ll reply back a little later with some observations. Amado

    Just a bass vi with (guitaresque medium/high gain w/ clean blend) through a 4x12 w/ neo basslites (listed as 49hz to 4.5k... but realistically the curve is after 6k)@@SUMOBAND Thanks!

  • @SUMOBAND
    @SUMOBAND9 ай бұрын

    @DeadRegister I’ll keep that in mind. Chris’ guitars are basically downtuned BassVIs with extra heat behind them so it shouldn’t be much of a stretch. I’ll report back shortly! Amado

  • @SUMOBAND

    As promised,… we tested Chris’ 8 string Kiesel and the it maintained the low and high strings just fine. I didn’t change up my EQ, though, and it still sounded fine. Definitely some serious headroom and bottom on it. I hope this helps out. Cheers! Amado

    Well, Keisel or D roc?

  • @SUMOBAND
    @SUMOBAND9 ай бұрын

    So, I made the Dingwall jump a little over a year ago and couldn’t be happier. Not that the Kiesel jazz basses I have aren’t great instruments, because they absolutely are. However, the scale size is indeed quite different and matched with the neck width, it just didn’t work the way I would’ve loved for it to have worked. For example, there were moments I would stutter on the higher registers on the multiscale Kiesel but zero issues with the same movement or run on any of my other 34” scale jazz basses (the solo in Orion was the big eye opener). I would absolutely recommend the Kiesels for a short scale player or even a guitarist, though. I hope this helps explaining some of it. Amado - SUMO

    @@SUMOBAND Thanks for the reply. I recently got a NG2 and I’m still on the fence on whether to keep it or not. Lots to like but I don’t like the 1.62” nut. I much prefer a jazz type 1.5”. Buyer confirmation helps. Thanks again.

  • @SUMOBAND

    Apologies for the delay (didn’t get the notification for the reply) but, that is understandable. I was a little apprehensive at first about that as well but, once I got it in my hands,… totally different story. It definitely doesn’t feel wide to me, likely due to the angle, but the Kiesel did feel narrower than my #1 (‘65 jazz) and I thought the same regarding the angle. That said, I wasn’t into the NG/Combustions when I played them, either, and that was a big factor driving me towards the D-Roc.

    I'm in the market for a new bass amp. I was set on an Ampeg SVT for a long time before I came across this. The SVT is really cool, but part of me feels like the 1K would still put out great tone for a lot less money and a lot less weight.

  • @SUMOBAND
    @SUMOBAND Жыл бұрын

    The SVT definitely has its place and it really all depends on what you’re going to run them through. Full disclosure, I’ve never been an SVT fan and my personal experience with Ampeg is limited to the Portaflex I had in the early 90s, and that was never used for live purposes (I played SWR for close to 20 years). You should absolutely give the 1K a listen in person, though, and that should help solidify whether it’ll be a good fit for you - it seriously puts out the power in a way you’ll feel unlike the SVT. If you’re in South Florida and come out to one of our shows, I’d be happy to give you walkthrough of it as well. Amado/SUMO

    @@SUMOBAND Thanks! I'm in NC, so it may be a while before I can make it down to FL for a show. It's just frustrating not being able to easily demo this gear before buying it. I went to my local guitar store today, and that had almost no bass amps to try out.

    Welcome, welcome. Give us some time and we will likely end up in your area before you end up down here. That’s a shame about the lack of gear in the shops, too. It wouldn’t hurt to reach out to the Trickfish guys via email ([email protected]), though, since they might be able to point you in the right direction in case there’s anyone near you.

  • @SUMOBAND
    @SUMOBAND Жыл бұрын

    Indeed and it’s a sneaky 1K watts. The headroom is definitely insane and works beautifully for what I want it to do. Thank you, thank you! And the cab is a gutted MarkBass 106 (they made a small batch of white ones years ago and I couldn’t resist) but, the speakers couldn’t keep up with the previous amp, the Bullhead .5K. I swapped them out for Eminence Kappalite LFs and that really lets the Bullhead 1K run amok.
