    It's a big misconception psychopaths are not social. In fact they are one of the most sociable humans out there. Without society they would not have a supplies. Social skills are another thing, it varies from culture to culture, even an introvert is sociable in a way or another. I wonder, James, being such a fine line between psychopaths and autism spectrum, if in fact you're autistic and not a psychopath...

    It’s been proven that our brains do not see all of objective reality but rather the perception of it. That’s why there are many examples of visual tricks that fool our brains to see one thing when it’s something else. This alone shows us that although the brain sees a lot of objective reality it does not see all of it so who knows what the full scope of objective reality contains that our brains our not evolved enough to see. You begin to understand this by learning that our brains have evolved just enough for the survival of our species. For example, some animals do not have vision so does that mean visual reality does not exist? No, it just doesn’t exist for that animal. So in applying that same idea to humans we can acknowledge that there is very likely more to objective reality that we cannot perceive because we don’t have the sense needed to perceive it.

    Who is this idiot saying that things have gotten better? I was born in 67, and since then I’ve witnessed nothing but a steady decline in the quality of life for the average person. The last decade we have witnessed the largest transfer of wealth from the poor and middle-class to, the wealthiest in the world! When 99% of humanity is suffering more and more every day, I don’t see how anyone can call that “getting better”!

    I'm full on with evolution. Blanc slatism is a near ubiquitous shibboleth and plain wrong. Climate alarmism and the push for net zero, is utterly unwarrented, pernicious, dangerous tosh. It was obvious with the Wuhan flu, that a lab leak was, back in early 2020, and is still now, easily the most parsimonious explanation. There is an existential problem with woke capture of acedemia and our institutions. Together with woke authoritarianism. This and all too many powerful 'experts' that plain lie, directly and by omission to promulgate narrative.

    Watching in 2024. How did it all pan out? Ah yes, it’s now completely controlled by gangs of genocidal cannibals and a failed state. Anyone ever notice that when the Hollywood do gooders get involved in a country’s political system it usually becomes a failed state? Same with Venezuela. Maybe actors are thick and should stick to pretending.

    Mr Pinker is wrong. We are rational (thinking) and also (feeling} beings. The feeling part is often described as non-rational but imagine a person without feelings. Society labels such persons as sociopaths. A person without feeling, operating from reason alone, can behave as a Frankenstein, something society definitely does not want. What Mr. Pinker should address is not the supremacy of reason but the necessity of a balance between reason and feeling in all our actions. We have lived through the Age of Reason, the environment is almost destroyed and our continued existence is even in question. When are those who give talks going to get this, instead of continuing to perpetuate a point of view which is unbalanced and unhelpful in our current predicament and instead educate people on the full use of the faculties we have been given rather than emphasis on one faculty alone, which is both limiting and dangerous in our present situation.

    Imagine a world with nothing but feelings - overcome by bouts of anger, spite, jealousy or needless hurt, evolution probably weeded such out. Wisdom suggest listening critically to both voices and updating fallacies in the Bayesian manner as Pinker suggests.

  • @ALavin-en1kr
    @ALavin-en1kr16 күн бұрын

    There should not be an emphasis on reason alone or on feelings alone but on a balance between both in our actions. Either one left out of the equation in our actions is not good and outcomes lack balance.

    Science Can Neither Prove Nor Disprove God, As God is Beyond What We Can Perceive or Prove. Science In My Opinion Was Created By God And Therefore When Science Discovers Something God Knew We'd Find Out Whatever It'd Be. Personally I Do Believe in a Creator But I Do Also Believe They Do Not Personally Care What We Do As On a Cosmic Scale, Humanity is But a Spec of Sand In a Infinte Cosmos. Those Who Will Say My Words are heresy let me ask You a Question Do You Know what God Is Thinking Right Now? or Are You Gonna Use Scripture Which Isn't a Reliable Source As it's Thousands of Years Old And Authored By Man And There's Others That Share the Same Concept as The Current God You Worship (aka the Christian God)

    With all due respect, I completely disagree with this argument. There is documented evidence to counter it. One by name Sri Vadiraja tirtha, who lived 120 years, with impeccable memory power and he actually chose to end his life in unique "sajiva brindavana" (a religious process, that the person knows when he has to end his life and voluntirily gives up asking his devotees/followers to make special arrangement at a point of time indicated by him). He had a lifestyle, where there is no scope to have long sleep. This is not just one exceptional event. Many sages of India have lead a rigorous life with very little sleep. I was highly impressed by an American, who was in IT and had everyday average of one to two hour sleep and some nights no sleep and yet was super healthy and super memory even at the age of retirement and continued like that much longer even. I myself have reduced sleep like that only and have healthy life with memory power not diminished at all. Yes sleep is needed, but one can train himself to have very deep sleep and for short time and thus making best of life.

I remember looking at Star Trek episodes with my dad when I was a little kid. Back then I didn't realise how powerful that command given to the computer was! Nowadays is something much more common and this is a great privilege! I would never stress enough the importance of recognising privileges when we have them.

    Question: Ok, and who designed or what is the cause of the moment, when it starts - who designed time will shape to this, who designed that in very very exact moment (if you zoom time, it have to be very exact moment) where cosnciousness appears. Who designed it will follow the Darwin's pattern, who designed immune system, that is doing perfect strategic moves to fight viruses. This reality clearly have a designer. Everything that begins to exist have a cause.

    anything is god for us which creates us or our surrounding but one thing i don't understand as why do we even think that god(entity) would be singular i mean our simple bubble(universe) is so complex, then there could be a possibility of groups of these entities working on simple bubble like ours. so may be the god is a collection of higher or may be advanced entities which creates us , also is if it is not a collection it's a single entity then i don't think it will look like a human as we perceive them it (could) be a universe tree as it basically created our universe so, don't stick to the fact that a god (which has physical forms as our religious text says created us and universe. i hope anyone who reads it will also share their take on it and we could learn together.

    Are you trying to redefine god into existence? Imagine Gary says leprechauns exist, mischievous sprites with pots of gold who are also love. Well we've confirmed love (many scientific papers prove it). Does that prove leprechauns exist? To me it's clear Gary needs evidence of the full definition of leprechauns to prove they exist. In fact just by tacking on love at the end, he's made his idea a bit _less_ believable as he really doesn't have evidence they're involved with love at all (or that they are love, given those same papers rather convincingly show us exactly how love works and it's just processes in our brain). Well google "god definition". Now do you have evidence that a being matching one of those definitions shares reality with us? I really don't think you do, and tacking 'love" onto the list of attributes of a god makes things _less believable,_ not more. If that doesn't make sense after Gary's leprechaun argument, imagine he also claimed leprechauns caused the big bang, the grand canyon, and gravity. Well that's even more real things, but Gary's not just claiming each of those things exists in isolation, right? He's claiming one type of being (leprechauns) did _all of it,_ and the more claims he adds, the more ridiculous his idea sounds.

Hell, Einstein read and certainly familar of Kat. Hume inspired Newton and Leibniz. And you wre brilliant a genius, Stephen. No one will ever, ever deny that fact. But is not a little arrogant to think where Physics has gone and will eventually goes is know owed even in some little degree to Philosophy.

    People, because of our sin nature, tries to melt things together to compromise. It makes sense that he wants to melt budism with Christianity because of his upbringing, but where does he get the idea of many big bangs? There’s only 1 big bang and God created it. Jesus created all that is created and He sustains it all. For Himself. We’re created to reflect Gods glory and holiness and to love and worship God. The bang proves with scientific data that there has to be a creator.
