Sure is! I've done that with my other YJ (V8 swapped driving project) because I only take it short distances by myself. I take the green one on 5+ hour long drives and I'd rather just have it be quieter and be able to hear my passengers!

Glad I watched this before I almost did what I was going to do, which was rip my jeep apart, throw down carpet, and be done with it. Definitely going to obtain some of those butyl squares first . I'm also glad I'm not the only one who is being driven insane by the zipper handles 😅😅😅

I probably should add that my YJ is a soft top, half doors, so there is probably little room for improvement as far as sound deadening for me. What I'm after, is some insulation from the heat of the floor. All I got going on inside right now is rhino liner lol It gets WAY hot!

It definitely does. My cooling system is in great shape/all new, so I was not worried about it and it turned out fine. If someone has overheating issues already, I definitely wouldn't recommend it

I didn't take any temp measurements, but I certainly felt a difference! That Jeep has AC, and it felt much stronger after all the insulation was down. Keep in mind, the engine also feels the difference too. If your cooling system isn't up to snuff, the new insulation will let you know quickly!

keep in mind for the long term, thin steel sheets (your hood) disperse heat and that by dampening any areas designed to do just that, you increase the temperatures within those areas causing other controls to work harder to do their designated function - if you start noticing engine temperatures rise you may need to reverse the work you've applied - we understand your wanting to reduce noise levels, but you do need to balance that 'want' with the 'needs' of the vehicle operating properly (just a thought)

Very true! The cooling system in that Jeep is all brand new, and I think it would stay cool inside a volcano. If someone had some older or dirty parts of their cooling system, I think it could cause some issues

That's up to you. Personally, I've removed the track bars on both of my YJs, both front and rear. I've kept both my sway bars because I don't like the way they handle without them. A lot of people get sway bar disconnects, so the sway bars can be used on road and disconnected offroad

What is your drive shaft length? doing a v8 in a yj with a 4l60E with a 241C transfer case. Went through the same spacing for the trans mount and opted to make the skid plate spacers bigger to avoide the spacers. Looking at the distance with the yoke in it looks like the drive shaft will be about 12". hate to have to but u-joints by the case!

I've since been working on a custom trans mount rather than modifying the stock one. I'm hoping it'll be stronger and provide more access. For driveshafts, my rear is roughly 20", and my front roughly 40". I've got them and the trans out right now, but that's with a super short SYE and pushing back the rear axle about an inch

You think an YJ Wrangler was loud try driving a CJ7. Bought it off the lot new in 1986. Those type vehicles are not boulevard cruisers. They’re utility. They’re meant to be loud.

@@NoGuaranteesGarage True. In 1986 if I gave the Jeep wave three times a week it was a lot. The Jeeps of old were made for the military, boarder control, post office, utility companies who needed to travel on unpaved roads. I didn’t care about the noise. They were fun to drive as long as you respected its limitations. CJs suspension was a whole lot different from a Wrangler. Very harsh. You won’t believe how easy it was to flip a CJ. Never did thank God. They really softened the Wrangler suspension to attract everyday drivers. When the YJ hit the dealer showroom in 1987 model year they sold like hot cakes.

@@map3384 My grandfather had a CJ7 before I was born. I never got to see it, but the pictures were enough to make me love them. I ended up with the red YJ because I couldn't afford one. Jeep definitely tried to make the YJs feel/appear safer than the CJs. I've even heard the square headlights were to encourage an appearance of stability

Dennis Collins offers a great service for Jeep lovers in Texas but it comes with a hearty price. $40+ for an old CJ? Mine cost $11,890 new in 86. So I’m looking at a YJ.

From what I've read with Lizard Skin, it does a great job with the heat, but not so much with the sound. If this was a Jeep that got wet on the inside I'd probably use a coat of LS and then bedliner overtop

So much has happened between then and now. The red jeep is on its third engine, sending its transmission out for a rebuild shortly, I picked up a TH289 carb cheater, sound and heat insulated the green jeep, and probably more things I haven't thought of. Been working some long days and I always forget to turn the camera on when I get to work. I think this was the sign/motivation I needed. Thank you

Don't think you have a 383. Doesn't look like the chevy balancer that's on my 400 sbc. Flexplate should also have weights if it's a stroker

I just took a look at your videos, what did you use for a front axle? I've thought about just chopping the ends off a D30 and welding the ends to a piece of pipe

@@NoGuaranteesGarage yeah thats exactly what i did. I cut the ends off and got a piece of 2" od dom tube. That slid inside the leftover tube on the ends. Front axle is 8" narrower than stock, and pushed 4" forward. I also narrowed the 8.8 i put in it. I have a bunch of pics on a forum ill post the link.

Fuel pump I spliced into the factory fuel pump wiring. I retained the original fuel level sending unit

The distributor I have a HEI. I found a wire that was hot when cranking and run and used it to power a relay that sent 12V through some thicker wire to the relay. Temp and oil gauges use stock sensors and stock wiring (just lengthened) in the proper locations on the sbc. Starter I used all factory wiring

I did my YJ sbc swap about 20 years ago. I wish I had went with the 700r4 instead of the Turbo350. I really wish I had the overdrive for my highway driving.

I took it to Telico before it was closed. Has always worked fine just loves the gas. I changed out from the Rochester 2bb years ago and went with an Edelbrock intake and carb. I would love to run the new holley EFI. I think I have put about 120k miles on it since the swap. Maybe more.

Trust me it got a ratchet strap on the way to the exhaust shop. Hood latches are coming in the mail. I figured it'd be okay under 15mph and I was right but definitely don't want to chance it too many times

From what I've read with Lizard Skin, it does a great job with the heat, but not so much with the sound. If this was a Jeep that got wet on the inside I'd probably use a coat of LS and then bedliner overtop

So much has happened between then and now. The red jeep is on its third engine, sending its transmission out for a rebuild shortly, I picked up a TH289 carb cheater, sound and heat insulated the green jeep, and probably more things I haven't thought of. Been working some long days and I always forget to turn the camera on when I get to work. I think this was the sign/motivation I needed. Thank you

Don't think you have a 383. Doesn't look like the chevy balancer that's on my 400 sbc. Flexplate should also have weights if it's a stroker
Nope, just a 355. I might have edited out the part where I discovered it, I can't remember. The listing had said a 355 and the guy had said to me right before I left that it was a 383... I figured it wasn't, but it was worth investigating. Its a cast stock crank
Thats gonna be alot of fun. I put a ford 302 in my yj that has some work done to It, but made my yj 2wd with a 5 speed tremec. Have a few clips of it on my channel when i had it 4x4 and now a 2wd.
You're speaking my language on that one man. I've already been looking into making one 2wd and weight reduced with either a built 4.0 or a LS. Would be a heck of a time on the dragstrip and I've never seen anything like it!
I just took a look at your videos, what did you use for a front axle? I've thought about just chopping the ends off a D30 and welding the ends to a piece of pipe
@@NoGuaranteesGarage yeah thats exactly what i did. I cut the ends off and got a piece of 2" od dom tube. That slid inside the leftover tube on the ends. Front axle is 8" narrower than stock, and pushed 4" forward. I also narrowed the 8.8 i put in it. I have a bunch of pics on a forum ill post the link.

I took a hiatus from the starion. Been busy with school and life. I have some footage just never ended up editing and posting. Will get back to work soon! I still have it sitting in my driveway

Should have installed the converter in the transmission and then after the transmission is bolted to the motor you bolt to converter to the flywheel
I ended up having to pull the drivetrain recently to fix some leaks and that's exactly what I did. Live and learn!

I was trying to leave as much of the factory paint and undercoating as I could. I did think about using a wire wheel and bedlining the underside, but I'm not a huge fan of dealing with bedliner

Fuel pump I spliced into the factory fuel pump wiring. I retained the original fuel level sending unit

@@TheSonicusa Yes I did. I pulled it and replaced it with a length of submersible hose and mounted a holley blue on the frame rail where the factory fuel filter is

The distributor I have a HEI. I found a wire that was hot when cranking and run and used it to power a relay that sent 12V through some thicker wire to the relay. Temp and oil gauges use stock sensors and stock wiring (just lengthened) in the proper locations on the sbc. Starter I used all factory wiring

Driveshafts were custom through Tom Woods. Their website did a great job of explaining the process. If you need any help, let me know and I'll do what I can
I did my YJ sbc swap about 20 years ago. I wish I had went with the 700r4 instead of the Turbo350. I really wish I had the overdrive for my highway driving.
I'm a little concerned about the stock 700r4 holding up but overdrive is definitely going to be nice. I can always try and build it out if I need to. Haven't hooked it up yet but looking forward to having it

@@12Bravojeepstuff I ended up using the AA engine mount as well and just modifying the stock crossmember for the trans. Had it going 70 to the DMV yesterday with no issues so far
@@NoGuaranteesGarage I have been running mine swapped for about 20 years now. Pretty much a daily driver. A lot of road trips from NC to GA when I was in the ARMY. I took it to Telico before it was closed. Has always worked fine just loves the gas. I changed out from the Rochester 2bb years ago and went with an Edelbrock intake and carb. I would love to run the new holley EFI. I think I have put about 120k miles on it since the swap. Maybe more.

Trust me it got a ratchet strap on the way to the exhaust shop. Hood latches are coming in the mail. I figured it'd be okay under 15mph and I was right but definitely don't want to chance it too many times
