    You are over-crimping, set it to where you just feel it in the die at the top of the stroke and no more. That little bit does transfer a great amount of energy to the ram at the top of the stroke. Over doing put a heavy crimp groove in the bullet which allows you to twist it. Also deforms the bullet.

    What is a wave washer? There are only flat washers, and only three of them.

  • @bobblenuts
    @bobblenuts3 жыл бұрын

    @@robertbrandywine Wave washer is arched (not flat) & made of spring steel, sometimes called a spring washer. If you have Lee two bullet casting molds you probably have a wave washer on the spru plate screw. It keeps a desired tension on screw without having to tighten completely.

    Has Lee changed the “Square Ratchet (3567) and Auto Index Clamp (3566) over the years. I ordered new # 3567 square ratchets for my Classic Turret press, and the square ratchet is bigger than the original ratchet that came with the press. Do I need to order a new Auto Index Clamp that will seat the larger square ratchets ? Any help will be appreciated. Arthur.

    I recently bought a used one off Ebay and I can't tell you how disappointed I am in the construction of this scale. Until this experience with this scale, I have been completely satisfied with all the Lee products I've puchased. I've been using an old Redding beam type scale for years , but it has it's draw backs and I thought a modern scale would be helpful so i bought the Lee Safety Scale. My apologies to Redding!!!! The lee scale is easy to set up and read, but the beam is easily upset in the travel channel which effects the accuracy of the scale. Waste of money.

    The part about turning the die in till it stops is confusing. There is a floating collar at the bottom of the die. The shell holder will make contact with the floating collar but the die can continue to be turned in until the floating collar is all the way to the top. So is the "stop" point when the shell holder contacts the die collar or when the floating collar has been pushed to the top of it's range? Also, some people making videos on this die seem to think that neck tension can be adjusted by turning the die in further or less far. It seems to me that the only change in neck tension would come from how hard one pulled on the press handle - up to a point - because the mandrel is a limiting factor on how much neck tension you can get - unless you polish down the mandrel.

  • @luvtahandload7948
    @luvtahandload79484 жыл бұрын

    vsaluki R The "stop" point is the floating collet. Also, one thing that is seldom mentioned is, once you have this die final adjusted, do not raise the ram all the way without a case in the shellholder for fear of making the collet stick closed. If the collet is closed when you run a case up, it will crumple it. That's why most people smear some grease on the tapered part of the collet. One more point, this die works best with annealed brass.

  • @vsalukir7019
    @vsalukir70194 жыл бұрын

    Luvta Handload I noticed today that if you put too much force into the press handle the die will pop the threads on the aluminum cap on the top. I think I read or heard that the force should be about 25 pounds, but I don't have a gauge in my arm and that number could vary widely. Fortunately the caps from the different calibers are interchangeable so I'm still in business. I'm measuring neck runout at around 2 to 3 thousands after using the die. Was hoping for 1 to 2.

  • @jamesdewer

    I started shooting and loading 308, I saved all my brass. When resizing and de-priming I was clearly not using sufficient pressure. I have a Lee Stand that I use and clearly I need to form the brass. Use some elbow grease. Is the pin inside the collet the same through out all calibers? Mine looks no bigger than that used to size my 223? I think I have the wrong mandrill.

    This is for the carbide die, which I guess is a three piece die. The regular factory die just has a collet and die body. Similar but different adjust the lock nut up the die body. Screw the die body down onto the loaded round until you meet resistance, then open your press and screw the die body a further 1/3 to 1/2 turn and use the lock nut to fix it in place.

  • @rjcoady21
    @rjcoady214 жыл бұрын

    I guess the second bit of resistance, you will have to close the internal collet onto the case*

    The best reloading "tool" I ever bought is the Lee press floor stand. It keeps vibration off the bench scales, leaves the bench space open, and has a lower shelf for quick change mount of 3 presses/ equipments. Two 4 in. cinder blocks or stacked lead ingots or boxes of cast bullets suspended under the shelf provide solid stability for the working press even on carpet flooring. Also Lee provides template for a wood top extension workspace on both sides of the press. I have mounted lightweight Lee Reloader presses on both sides for universal recapping and bullet sizing. This setup is perfect for small space reloading.
