Brett Castro here. I'm a Meteorologist, Storm Chaser, and Photographer. I have a Bachelor's in Atmospheric Science from UAlbany and am further pursuing my education as a graduate research assistant at OU. For as long as I can remember I've been fascinated with physical science and meteorology has been at the forefront of that interest. I love both understanding and experiencing what the Earth's atmosphere has to offer and storm chasing has become a passion of mine over the last 8 years.

I personally didn’t get to see it live. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Sure thing! The sun will be near the peak of its 11 year cycle over the next year, so there may be more opportunities!
Us New Yorkers always get the leftover of floridas hurricanes sob
What town exactly was the hook echo located relative to where you were? You mentioned you were north of it.
The hook passed about 5 miles to the southwest, through Berkeley Heights, Westfield, Linden, and then Carteret before moving over southern Staten Island. There was another supercell before this that passed just to the north about an hour earlier as well.
@storm12weather , nice. The last supercell that struck our region was back on August 13th of last year. A tornado warning was issued for Somerset, Union, Middlesex, and Hudson counties. I did observe a confirmed hook echo over Roselle Park, NJ, not far from where you filmed this storm, right after it passed over me while I was filming it from home. However, it failed to produce a tornado and continued northeast into Staten Island and Brooklyn. Since 2021, we've definitely experienced very strong thunderstorms, including supercells and tornado activity, which has also greatly increased as well. We've had more twisters pop up than what is considered normal or average for our region. Especially strong tornadoes. The Mullica Hill event in 2021 was one of the strongest tornadoes in New Jersey's history. Confirmed EF3 twister. We shouldn't be getting tornadoes that strong.
This was amazing! The grid tried to bring back power multiple times, but then each different route then sustained some sort of damage. What camera did you use?
Thank you! I use a Nikon D7500 and had a 20 to 80 mm adjustable lens. I use it for photos but it takes great video too. I typically film storm footage at 1080p 60fps instead of 4k 30fps because the higher framerate makes the motion of the rain and wind look much smoother.
@@storm12weather I use 1080p 60fps too. Lightning is way better too. Handles blurring better too I noticed.
A positive lightning strike like this woke me up from dead sleep when I was a kid. At that age, I was terrified of thunder, so the explosion caused me PTSD. The next night, I suffered a terrible nightmare about it, and I woke up shaking violently. I was simultaneously frozen in place and I couldn’t stop shaking for a few seconds after I woke up. My baby sister was sleeping in my bedroom with me, so I crawled into bed with her, and then I calmed down enough to go back to sleep. Now I’m not as scared of thunder as I used to be, but to this day, I never want to hear a sound like that again.
Great video!! 👍👍
Thankyou! It was an incredible experience!
the bulbs in those parking lot lights ( shoe box luminares ) are probably shot now, the combination of the arc tubes being violently rattled round and constantly cutting and restriking probably has shortened they're life span quite a bit. in any case all those lights will need to be relamped (to have they're bulbs replaced) which will only ad to the cost of the damage.
Southern California occurs usually during El Nino future years are 2031-2032, and 2036-37, 2039-2040, usually in January or February, sometimes in March.
Or maybe it was weak supercell
That was a HP supercell storm beacause it had a lot of rain and it was a rain rapped tornado 🌪️
That it was. You can't see the tornado in the video where he marked it because it was completely rain wrapped.
This thunderstorm is was my son this is was in Tangier Morocco😮
What is this all about? I see nothing terrifying.
It's exactly as the title suggests. A very loud positive strike. Where did I describe it as terrifying?

A HURRICANE WARNING
Jacinda💖😩sad but injoying🙏🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️🌪️
Was there any hail in those storms?
I didn't see any hail in this area. It's possible some of them produced small hail but for the most part these storms were exclusively wind producers.

That’s my school

finally some good camera work and editing; im glad i found your youtube channel
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and I appreciate your compliment! I'm looking forward to getting some more chases soon!
Thats a beautiful storm. Kudos on capturing it in all its glory.
Great video. Love just the sounds of the wind and thunder. The lightning's not bad either! :)
Nice! Pretty similar to what I saw in Tupper Lake, NY
Thanks! My original destination was actually closer to Tupper Lake, near Plattsburgh, but I got concerned about the trends in upper-level clouds in the high res models, so I decided to take my family farther east into Vermont to reduce the risk of clouds. I'm glad people in northern NY were able to see it as well. Since you saw it, I'm sure you've noticed no video or picture will ever do it justice.
It was almost like a hurricane where it was storming where the stories were. While filming in the parking lot.

I wonder how many MILLIONS of gallons of water that was??
Ill bet you that this supercell had overshooting tops on top of the anvil.
Agreed. I recall an overshooting top being visible on satellite. This storm was over 45,000 feet tall at this time.
A tornado (rain wrapped) came to my hosue
Wha?
if possible please try 4k!
Hello. I do occasionally upload 4k videos. The major issue I have right now is the cropped sensor my camera has with 4k videos. When I film in 4k, it's hard to get wide angle shots. I also generally go for 2k at 60fps as opposed to 4k at 30fps, because the video is much smoother. Generally 60fps is better when there is a lot of motion, especially if I'm in a storm filming wind and rain.
@@storm12weatherokkay ,its good👍
@herewego138 I appreciate your feedback of course. I'm always receptive to any suggestions to improve my videos!
your videos are just love maan!,its amazing, except time lapses,as i prefer natural one 💌💫💌
Thanks. I'm glad you're enjoying them! I do occasionally put time lapses, especially with storm structure but I try to put in plenty if real time footage as well.
EPIC video ⭐🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟⭐
This storm was EPIC!!! Thanks for sharing ❗❗❗❗
Of course. Glad you enjoyed the video!
This storm gave me a panic attack
It really doesn't matter where you live. You are going to get slammed !!!

amazing video!
Thankyou!
Sounds like a sonic boom.
I remember when this squall line hit where I live in the evening on September 8th, I got good video of the cumulonimbus clouds and a big one. I remember my soccer game got canceled from all the lightning. It was a lightning show! Nice video!
Looks like a normal thunderstorm to me. Were the high winds somewhere else?
This was a squall line that was severe warned at the time. As far as winds at the location I filmed, I'd estimate they gusted to around 40 mph. For a NY storm it was a pretty good intensity. I suppose it comes down to what you consider "high winds". I used that label in this video because, despite the severe warning, I didn't observe severe criteria (58 mph winds or greater) but I felt it was intense enough to include that in the title. There were also several wind damage reports (downed trees) across the area. I do have other videos where I actually observed severe level winds though.
Waw thats was a crazy storm. We didnt get like that where i leave 😮😮😮😮😮
Sounds like when a F15 fighter jet breaks the sound barrier and makes a sonic boom, And it vibrates you're literal rib cage
Thank you for sharing a video
