I’m having a P000B no p0016 and car runs fine Eco mode don’t engage no misfire codes , changed all sensors and VVT solenoid no change it’s a 2012 dodge charger do you think I should park it and change the timing chain and oil pump I can hear what sounds like rattling sometimes at low rpm’s thinking it’s the chain

  • @larrygeddes4388

@orelaxyt7118 Well the time in chain tends to be a problem on the five point seven hemi. The sad thing is you can't tell unless you pull the Timing chain cover and that's a lot of work. But it sounds like you have the same issues.Leading up to my timing chain breaking

The reason why the 2nd gear dove tails wear out is because of the shifting canister design defect. The shifting canister groove for 2nd gear fork doesn't push the 2nd gear dove tail far enough inside the female part of the other gear, so its always at the edge, and slips and wears out over time. I think that what you did by welding the dove tails is a good idea, especially if you make them a little longer so that they can fully engage more.

Another good way to check the valve seating is to stand the head on the side and fill the intake and exhaust ports one side at a time with lite oil and if it doesn't seep past the valves, the seating is good

One word of warning if you change this there’s all kinds of things that can go wrong with the cable screwed up you can set airbags off and you can forget to put something back together really easily there’s a whole bunch of things that you’re doing including releasing all those negative grounds and stuff around the fuse box and what not and you have to be sure and put all that back in place because if you forget any of it you have to tear back into it and take it back apart Again ! . Do you self a favor when you go to the boneyard get yourself to four inside white stationary nuts they’re made of plastic there to hold the dash and be sure and grab you some at the boneyard while you can get them because you’re gonna need them

They all have the problem worse on shaft drive with loads of torque in 2005 Yamaha they added shims for less play but if you slam it into 2nd gear most things with dog gears become jumpy, 145 hp or 135hp my 1998-2002 both had problem.

@larry Geddes Though, I'm not surprised. Chrysler issued recall (P01) on the early VVT Hemi cars for P0300 DTCs related to a bad chain. I only remember this because I had my 2011 serviced under this recall at 150k. Car was good after that - the motor went well past 200k before it was opened up again (cam, lifters).
