The Saigon Saga Podcast, amazing content keep it up bro
Thanks for watching! We'll continue to put out great content and highlighting key influencers here in Vietnam
Saigon seems like a great place to raise kids, especially with the promise of a great community
You're right, we are grateful to have such a close-knit community with talented people
Alex seems great, and encourages us to get our kids in Jiu Jitsu
For sure...very welcoming environment at Team Shark
This is crazy! how much international influence is there in Saigon?!! I'm thinking about going there from Italy
We hope you come out, Leonardo! We could use some Italian influence in our community
The community could use someone like you, Leonardo. We hope you train with us - you're always welcome!
Flawless logic
Good man!
What's the dog's name?
Looks like a great start for the kids community. Inspired by Pato in his ambition for the growth of Kids Jiu Jitsu in emerging markets for the sport. What does Pato think about coming out to Italy and helping us start a community here?
Finally! An actual Rugby player who does Jiu Jitsu. Tired of all these WRESTLERS!!
Rugby players like Daniel bring a different type of intensity, that’s for sure. What’s your background Leo?
Why have you been waiting on this all along??
@@zcrush13 Because Rugby players are TOUGH! All of them....N y'll wait t'll they all come to JJ, the sport won't be the same...
@@Saigon-saga it's LEONARDO! And I'm a lifelong football player and martial arts enthusiast. And played Rugby a few times.
Watched this guy at Saigon Superfights by the river - he's a monster
What??!! That’s insane
Looking great Pato! Hope to see you back on the mic 🎤
Next superfight…zac against tommy!!!! Xd
Hahahaha yes go Tommy!
How many years until Tommy taps Zac?
@@banhmiso 90 dieas o menos. That's what we're betting on over heree
What a cool event held at Gisdio, when will be the next one?
Woahh how can we learn more about Shade Protocol?!
episode 17 and you still don't have your audio under control? I maxed out my laptop's volume, and it was STILL too quiet.
Thanks for the feedback!
This is a great point! Who else has had this issue?
Bro what kind of computer are you using?!
Have a coach grown up in the same culture, speak the same language is a blessing.
Jiu Jitsu communities must learn to put aside their ego and focus on passing on coaching, just like Liam says. How can we see more of this guy?
Stay tuned! We expect to see more of Liam in the near future.
Teach these Vietnamese guy leg locking since white belt. Don't hold back those knowledge.
Great point
43:16 I resent the no-gi qualification!
One thing you guys are missing is language barrier, most of the good coach here are speaking English.
That's a good point. But I think that would link up with the conversation about building and growing homegrown talent, preferably bilingual native Vietnamese who have been trained here and have a vested interest in furthering and giving back to the community. Ones that come to mind to me would be Alan at Gisdio and Anh Tu (Bruce) at Elab in Vung Tau. I'd add Hiep at Arkain, but I honestly don't know him as well as the other two.
Thanks for the comment! What's one recommendation you have where we can be impactful?
@@Saigon-saga This one is a bit difficult. The situation is already a lot better than it was back in 2016-2017, but there is still room for improvement. I might suggest creating some sort of informal organization for all grappling schools in Saigon to aid in organization of events and seminars, maybe with quarterly meetings with the gym owner class and coaching staff to talk about event organization, strategies to promote grappling in Southern VN, etc. Other combat sports have similar organizations, like boxing. If it was completely open to all grappling gyms and it had a high level of participation, something like a Saigon Grappling Federation might be handy for large event coordination. Another suggestion, which I wish I had had the idea for a year or two ago, is to make a volunteer English class for Vietnamese grapplers with lots of talent and coaching potential, but whose level of English is poor, and teach a weekly class with a situational focus on grappling vocabulary, body parts, class communication and conversation skills, etc. If I wasn't leaving Vietnam in September, I would happily do that one myself, but there are plenty of decent grapplers in the ESL teacher community who might consider doing that. I think the catch would be that it would probably need to be a volunteer position so that the classes are free, otherwise you might leave out the Vietnamese grapplers who could benefit from it the most.
What's going on in Vietnam??
A lot of small gyms making the scene come alive
Well what does a good coach look like? And how do you pass down coaching??!
Start by looking at amateur and professional sports like Judo, Basketball, Rugby. It doesn’t need to be complex, just systematic
