    Polymer clay does bake to a flat finish. That’s just what it does. You can add a glossy finish with a spray sealant!

    This is so cool! i love to do this kind of stuff because it’s so satisfying! i usually paste a cutout of a drawing i made on top of all of it too, so it’s like a nice background for the character/ drawing and give my journal chunky pages which is so satisfying for me 🤭 but i will definitely use this video for ideas on what to put in my journal! thanks a lot ❤

    Interesting technique, Lindsay. I love how the final cards came out. The handmade paper gives a very rustic look to the sympathy card - kind of an interesting contrast (or maybe complement?) to the foiled sections. The paint swatch background actually looks like cobblestones to me, so it could easily work either way. Thank you for sharing. Take care, & I hope you have an awesome day, & happy Mother's Day! :)

    I have done this, but it’s just not cutting….. I have had to use several shims, thanks Donna hall

  • @CraftingWhileCaffeinated
    @CraftingWhileCaffeinated3 ай бұрын

    There are several things you could try to get the cutting to take the first pass and without more, info here’s what I would try! First, if you’re using a manual machine, be sure the handle is screwed in all the way and not loose. Mine will never cut fully when the handle is loose. Cut using aluminum foil as your paper a few times. This seems to help “sharpen” the die a bit and cut smoothly on thicker paper. The paper you’re using may be too thick. Try using a thinner paper when die cutting. With the addition of the metal adapter, it really should be cutting. I can barely get that through my machine, I can’t imagine running it through with shims! That said, your machine may be losing pressure or the die just may be defective. If you’re not having problems cutting any other dies, and none of these tips help, contact the manufacturer of the die. It may just be a defective die. And if you’re having trouble getting all your dies to cut, it may be your machine. Again, contact the manufacturer if it’s newer to warranty it, or return it from where you bought it. If it’s old, it may be time to invest in a new one. I do have to say though, my Sizzix big shot is 12 years old and still going, but they can give out over time, especially if used often.

  • @CraftingWhileCaffeinated
    @CraftingWhileCaffeinated4 ай бұрын

    Gel medium is a very versatile medium you can use for collage, gluing down elements, sealing in things like glitter, or you can add different things to it like I’ve done here and create your own backgrounds! It’s essentially a very heavy and thick glue.

    Good News, Crafting Friends … Instead of using this metal plate, and risking both damage to your die cutting machine AND YOUR JOINTS (!!), use SHARON LUSKA’s hack, as seen here on Y.T. Let me first give you a bit of a comparison between this and her super idea. If you’ve ever gardened you may have seen the two different types of hand pruners (secateurs); the bi-pass kind, like scissors, and the other called an anvil pruners, which has a cutting blade that mashes down on a flat surface (the “anvil”). Both w i l l work, but the anvil style must be super sharp always, but still takes more work (also, they damage the branch or stem being cut!). That, in essence, is what this adapter plate does over time. The “blade” of the die will go through the cardstock, but mashes down on the plate. I’m guessing here, but over time I’d think that would damage the “blade” of the die. So, back to a solution: As I said above, this is easier on your machine, AND your joints, and over your stamping life will probably cost you more (but NOT in medical bills!). So … You’ll need to buy some THICK VINYL SHEETING (I get mine at JoAnn’s; the thicker of the 2 they had at the time; sorry, didn’t take note of the mil 🫣), and 3 Dollar Tree Cutting Mats from the kitchen section. I know - they come 2 per pack, but I found yesterday that not only are they only ⅔ ‘s as thick as before, but also are not as big. The SANDWICH IS AS FOLLOWS FOR MY BIG SHOT PLUS: The Base Platform; 3 $🌳 Cutting Mats; 1 Salmon ‘B’ Shim; 1 Sizzix Cutting Plate; 1 Piece of VINYL SHEETING; Cardstock & Die (I place my Dies “blades” d o w n on the card); 2nd Piece of VINYL SHEETING; 2nd Sizzix Cutting Plate. Voila! After running your sandwich through check to verify you got a clean cut. Some cheaper chinese dies still may require multiple passes or cardstock shims, but DON’T OVER LAYER before you know you have to! As I said in the beginning, this will be SOOO much easier on your body and your machine! You WILL have to change out the Vinyl Sheeting from time to time, but since using this method, my plates have N O T warped, and they are no more marred than they were when I began, which was very little as they were almost new.

    I can imagine this filen with die cut inlay as well. Cut it from a bunch of different colours and white and you can add as many or as few colours as you like while also have a bunch of coloured heart backgrounda ready to go for cards. Could also use some of the excess white hearts to raise up the hearts on a couple of cards. The card is beauyiful! Thank for the free file. ❤❤ Edited for typos 😂

    So neat! Just wonder if Sharpie markers would work as well, since that's all I have for alcohol-based markers, and I don't really want to invest in "artist"-grade markers in addition. Also, if you wanted to use the tape on a project that might get more wear, like as an accent on a card or tag, could you put another piece of uninked clear tape over the top/inked side of the colored tape to protect it? Just curious. I might have to give this a try. I do have alcohol inks, so I might try that route instead, especially if Sharpies don't work. Thank you for sharing an alternate technique, though, Lindsay. Hope y'all have had a good holiday season. Take care, & have an awesome day, & Happy New Year! :)

    Yes! Sharpies should work in theory, but honestly, if you have alcohol inks, that would be the better option. I just loved the look, but can’t handle the smell of them lol. So I found a way to make it my own!

    In regards to your migraines. It could be that you have a food allergy. It could be that you’re allergic to coffee. My sister had migraines. They wanted to operate. Put a hole right in the center of her forehead. My mom prayed for her and discovered that she was allergic to chocolate. You could be allergic to coffee beans. It might be a good idea for you to see an allergist. I sincerely hope this helps. I’m disabled. I’ve been praying for a physical healing for decades, and decades, I still don’t have the ability to walk. I was very shocked when the Lord healed my arm. It’s one of the biggest miracles I have ever experienced personally of my physical healing journey. It’s an amazing story. First I tore my tendon in my shoulder. Then I tore my bicep. I was in so much pain and completely incapacitated. I thought I was going to die. My arm is functional and I’m no longer in excruciating pain. I have other serious medical problems. Please keep me in prayer.

    I’m not sure, to be honest. In theory it would work, but it would take quite some time to dry. And at that point, I don’t know if it would hold up. It might crumble or it might be great. I honestly have no idea as I’ve never used it in that way. I’m sorry and I know that is absolutely no help at all! But I just really don’t know.

    I'm a !little embarrassed to admit this but I have always used freezer paper when painting....well at least for several last years. I hate the clean up after acrylic painting so I decided to use freezer paper instead of palette paper since palette paper can be pricey. I don't remember if I got the idea on KZread or what BUT if was so much more economical and it worked just the same. So now after watching this, I am so much more excited!!!!! I have another use for my freezer paper.' I love the fairies and I bought the plastic decals but they are near impossible to attach to the inside of the glass. I have tried just about everything...even just taping it for days. The decals will pop right back to their curves really easily even then. I would like to "transfer the image" but I am afraid that the paper that I use might degrade after time or even right away with the moisture from the glue and the use. I am thinking..and or wondering what would be the best paper and what could I seal it with so that it would not degrade? If I went this way I could adjust the sizes of the fairies as well. I love when medias are combines. I am beginning to see the possibilities and the fun of it all. Thank you for these ideas! I will always remember them.

    How does it heat emboss? How does it adhere with wet glue and double sided tape? How does it die cut? How does it do with embossing folders? Will it crack? Baby oil is mineral oil with scent added. I'm not one who likes the smell of baby oil.

    Good questions. Hopefully Lindsay will see & respond, as I'd like to know, too. You can always get just plain mineral oil, which wouldn't have the scent. I actually have a bottle with quite a bit in it. I'll have to experiment! :)

    I love your techniques & finished ephemera. You didn't mention what paper you print on, though. Is it just regular copy paper, or something more substantial like very lightweight (I'm thinking 65 lb.) cardstock? I am curious. I know different printers have different thickness limits for paper. I have printed up to 140 lb. watercolor paper with my Epson Workforce printer, but that's adhering it temporarily to a larger sheet of copy paper. I have found that, if I try to send that thick paper through on its own, the printer does get mad at me! LOL Anyway, thank you for sharing. Take care, & have an awesome day! :)
