    #1-access,#2-to much activity in the woods before hunting begins,#3-early seasons,as we know,deer are not stupid ,and they start to turn nocturnal after seasons begin,#4 there is a lot of cover for them to hide and access comes in again!

    I believe access is the biggest problem. Hunting as a teenager I had a lot of private land to hunt. Now you just can't get permission. I scored a small lease and hunt some public now but there seems to be a lot more bowhunters now on public and that makes it more difficult. Takes the fun out of it sometimes.

    When compared to the .5 and .75, how does this stand feel in terms of the comfort of the size/cushion of the seat? Just as comfortable, not quiet as comfortable, etc? Also, have you done a review of the summit open shot? I couldn't find one. I know it's nowhere near as compact to transport, but it's around the same weight and may be more comfortable once mounted to the tree. Thoughts?

    Hey Polak, I agree with you on so many things. I live in Whitmore lake so I’m in your area and there’s such little state land it’s hard to get opportunities on does let alone a buck. I’ve sent letters and door knocked every year and never got a yes, yet everyone is upset with car insurance prices and car accidents on 23 lol. I also and so disappointed the earn a buck or 1 buck was shut down. I kinda hold myself to earn a buck and won’t shoot a buck until I put a doe down. The muzzleloader thing is stupid as well. I’m a bow hunter first and hate sharing the woods w muzzleloaders it’s just unsafe down here. Lastly I’m disappointed in no bait. No one will ever tell me bait spreads…anything. Any woodsman knows deer lick each other constantly. I think hunter numbers drop off dramatically after the bait ban. The average weekend/rifle hunter can’t use bait and doesn’t have time to scout like some of us so they say hell w it. I don’t see anything wrong with a little corn or something but the dnr is so narrow minded is ridiculous. Great video bud! Hoping to put a hand full of does down so to donate to some needy families I know, good luck this fall bud.

    Good rant. Access in southeast MI is a problem. I’d like to see the DNR engage the county and local parks in Wayne and Washtenaw, at least for archery. I see banger bucks all the time in my Wayne county suburbia but drive an hour plus to rub elbows with every other public land hunter in southeast MI just to get goasted every weekend.

    I hunt mostly in zone 2 public land. I prefer that for the solitude. I would love to see Michigan go to a 1 buck state but in my opinion, given the rich heritage like you mentioned it would deter a lot of hunters especially the older generation. Not really sure why that is, it's similar to the baiting issue. A lot of old timers just don't know how to hunt without a bait pile and they either will hunt over bait illegally (which happens all over zone 2) or they just won't hunt at all. I would like to see a full lottery system where you don't know what type of tag you draw. You go to buy your license, the DNR and powers that be allocate a specific number or antlered and antlerless tags and you randomly get one of those tags. You could just get a buck tag or you could just get a antlerless tag. Now, you could keep the combo license and still implement that. Many diff variants. I think the problem Michigan has is that it's stuck in the 40s where they want to keep that hunting heritage and tradition alive. They just seem to do it in very odd ways as far as regulations. The UP is a mess now and it's a damn shame. It's a fraction of the hot spot that it used to be. I've been hunting zone 2 for close to 20 years with my dad. Gun season camp every year and we see less and less hunters every single year. I think that is the biggest problem, we need to get our youth involved in the outdoors more and there needs to be a return as far mentality to the traditional values that this great state was founded on. Get outside, scout year round, harvest your deer and share it with your family. I mean, less hunters and more deer is great for me cause I fill my freezer every year. But I want to maintain what hunting means to the state and what it means to the hunters and conservationists that are privileged enough to have the opportunity. Great video sorry for the rant. Good luck this year everyone shoot straight stay safe 👍

    I used to hunt up in Galord and Indian river area a lot. I should go back and see how the deer are up there now, I loved the solitude as well, there is just something special about hunting northern Michigan. I worry about your herd up there with them allowing 10 doe tags in certain areas. there are a lot of areas I know that just cant support it and its going to really hurt the herd. Down here we can support 10 doe tags per season no problem. Most guys dont even come close to using that many tags anyway. Down here on public land the people are freaking surging to levels that sometimes are very un-pleasant. Ive seen more hunters in the woods the last 3-5 years than I ever have in my 25-26 years of hunting. I will push my kids to learn to shoot more does to help balance the herd. good luck this season and thanks for watching!!

    Michigan is stuck in the hay days of deer hunting where men trekked into the woods with red flannel and stormy kromers. It's just not that type of hunting anymore. Michigan needs to take note of what others state are doing in order to save the deer population STATE WIDE for years to come

    I've been hunting MI since I was 13 in 2000. I was very fortunate to gain access to a beautiful piece of 40 acres in Ionia county in 2019. In the last 5 seasons I have worked hard to do my part and have harvested 16 does and 8 bucks which is certainly higher than the state average of doe:buck harvest ratios. So, I do feel the new doe seasons/lower tag cost is in the right direction to increase doe harvest numbers. But, I don't really agree with the new regulation to limit what new hunters can harvest. I'd like to think when I believe my son is mature enough to harvest a deer for the first time; that he would have the same opportunities that I had when I was first starting out and harvest whatever gets him excited as that's what it's all about. (You said you yourself shot anything you could when you were younger, as did I) I just don't really agree with limiting the opportunity to first-time hunters starting out because of a problem our and previous generations have created. Might as well just lose the youth hunt at this point, since I'd rather him wait and hunt with me in October/November to have more opportunities to harvest what makes him happy; and restricting him into only being happy to shoot does isn't fair, as that wasn't what we were excited about when we were first starting out either. We wanted a chance at ANY deer that got us excited and made us happy.

  • @Westdesign03
    @Westdesign03Күн бұрын

    I’ve long thought we (hunters and the hunting industry) need to come up with some way that makes people excited to hunt does. Like how everyone loves big antlers, something like this for does. If people get excited about shooting does I think the imbalance will balance out pretty quick. We have these same discussions in Ohio too. Not an idiot at all!! You’re spot on for many states in the country IMO. Appreciate you bringing up the subject. More hunters (and non hunters) need to hear it.

    You named a Big part of it mgo, the other part is revenue. They're trying to cut corners and restrict Buck Harvest through the youth and liberty Hunts rather than give up the revenue from a 2 Buck season state wide, they're also taking advantage of high hunter populous in deer dense urban zones and Cash cowing a new season opportunity. We need to qualify manage the herd not NRC revenue bandaids over Bullet holes.

  • @karmas.busdriver
    @karmas.busdriverКүн бұрын

    @@MichiganGreatOutdoors It's not just that they're greasing pockets, like you said, state wide numbers of Hunters are on the decline, so their revenue stream is drying up, and and pocket lining corruption is steering them into these alternate revenue schemes, and passing the problems down the line. Their regs changes have done nothing accept pass the illusion of more Buck restrictions, and expand on their license revenue in the higher population zones. A one Buck season, nonresident preference point system, and crop damage compensation program with a percentage going to soil mineral enrichment, and quality deer genetics introduction in genetics management units. If you Build a Balanced herd, and set restrictions to grow great Bucks, not 25 to 2 favoring Doe's, everybody Wins, including the pocket lining. A doe is a doe, no incentive to hunt the youth hunt for a doe. I can see them just waiting until regular season and skipping the youth hunt.

    Yep, we need to fix the culture of you have to get a buck Or it's not cool or special. That's a u problem every deer I get is exciting I'm hunting meat not horns. I mean, think my dad and all's uncles have never shot a doe in their lives, and we wonder why our numbers are all screwed up

  • @misupercooner
    @misupercooner4 күн бұрын

    @tmoney8785 we shoot plenty of does but we don't get overly excited to hunt a special doe season. Any hunter that says they get just as excited over a doe over a mature buck is a liar. Does are a dime a dozen.

  • @tonyellis6383
    @tonyellis63836 күн бұрын

    I think they finally made the change, well over due. The goal is to get a kid involved in hunting, if shooting a doe doesn’t work or does work, the goal is still successful. Plus we have an over abundance of does, so that is the main reason they did it. And to many, hey you should see the buck I killed, I mean my child killed, that is the other reason it was changed from my understanding. No one is preventing them from getting a big buck, they have all regular season.

    @@MichiganGreatOutdoors Yeah i agree, there is the risk that it will decrease the participation rate. But i go back to, if you aren't excited about shooting your first doe, than maybe we already have an answer. I been hunting a long time and I STILL get excited when i shoot a doe, so that is a hard one for me to process if shooting a doe doesn't get a hunter excited, especially in the beginning of their hunting life.

    I thinks it is a fantastic decision. Always thought that a 1st time young hunter shouldn’t shoot a buck so soon in their hunting life -especially when they get to hunt in dads gun blind before the bow and gun season starts. It’s good to work for things and earn it.

    I really care about Michigan Hunting, and Sportsman, and I'll tell everyone, I wouldn't waste my money on Michigan sportsmans groups. If you're paying dues to pocket lining sportsmans alliance blowhards enjoying lancing fine dining and Hotels at your expense. You're not part of making a difference, you're part of special interest that the NRC knows is a legislature & ballot box minority that they can keep sponging money from. The soldered old leaders sitting those seats wouldn't know how to beat a modern animal rights organization if they had millions in budget and voting power. @@MichiganGreatOutdoorsI’m not really sure what you do as the state I live in constantly improves youth hunting opportunities. We have special youth only day for Deer, Bear and turkeys. We are a bucks only state (no antler restrictions) so you need to draw a doe tag to shoot a doe but not on youth day. They can shoot whatever shows up. Also our youth days are the weekend before our general open seasons so to give the youths the first shot at the deer before the orange army invades. So if it were me and I always wanna promote youth hunting I’d let them shoot any deer that comes out buck or doe and if your worried about deer populations then give them an extra doe only tag for the youth season. So one tag for either sex one tag doe only. Hell if there is antler restrictions I’d take them off for youth day just to make the youth out in woods able to have full experience. Equate it to fishing are you gonna take a kid to a fly fishing only trout stream for their first fishing trip or are gonna take them to the small mud hole and toss a worm on a bobber and catch 20 warm water fish that hit anything that moves in an hr? You gotta make it fun for kids and limiting their opportunities is counter productive.

    Yeah I think of it this way. 95% of the kids weren't taking them nice bucks It was the adult cheating and taking advantage of a early season hunt. The purpose of the youth hunt is to get the kid into hunting. To only being able to take a doe it'll give them the incentive to get out there in regular season and get that buck. I don't see this hurting anybody except for the people taking advantage of early season hunting. What is the reason that you would think this was f ed up?? I'm just asking for your insight. I am not criticizing you for your answer. Thanks have a blessed day..
