    If you're a right-hander playing third and get taken deep to the backhand side (even deep to the pocket on the glove side), would you recommend perfecting the one-hop throw to first? In my playing days -- 1976-1995 -- I don't remember seeing this as a common tactic (quite embarrassing), but I've noticed this more and more seeming to be a deliberate move in MLB within the last 15 or so years.

    My 11 yo got benched because he rarely uses 2 hands (only on some routines plays). He went 16 straight games without an error. After first error of season (on a backhand play) coach went into I told you so mode and benched him. Broke my heart. He was really trying to use 2 hands more often. Just didn’t feel right to him and slowed him down.

    Before I saw your video I was thinking about exactly what you’re talking about- it makes sense to use your body to gain more momentum. “ Shuffle shuffle and then they throw a pitch” lol Just used it in a game today and it worked like a charm!! thank you

    If you have a fast runner u need to do one shuffle , doing too many shuffles can mess your shot up, just be calm and relax and confident in your throw and you will have a nice hard throw to 1st

    I find this very surprising because here in England we play cricket, which is our version of baseball of course, and the advice is to always use two hands, both for fielding and catching. You only use one hand if you don't have a choice.

    I hear people say this all the time but honestly you watch slow motion of pros even on the outside pitch most hit it outfront or the distance is more like a half of an inch not 4 to 6 balls difference. The concept sounds great but is another hitting myth I believe.

    ALL YOU GUYS ARE BOTH RIGHT AND WRONG. NEITHER OF YOU UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE IN PHYSICS WHEN "DRIVING" THE BALL TO OPPOSITE FIELD VERSUS "SLICING" THE BALL. (I've driven HRs to opposite field at every level of baseball.) HOW? REMEMBER f=ma. THAT MEANS Force = Mass X Acceleration. Yes, we should have different swings to hit the outside pitch versus the inside pitch. But the demonstrator ultimately uses the same stride regardless of pitch location. Instead, lean toward and then push body, hands & bat down n out towards outside pitch to make contact further out in front than demonstrated. This increases the Mass or leverage into the equation.

    Thanks man will definitely try this in my next practice or game. I see the patience and accuracy behind it. I play men's softball, so would it be same concept on 2 shuffles , probably would have to throw harder or less shuffles ? Tips on that?

  • @247BaseballOnline
    @247BaseballOnline6 жыл бұрын

    Dude 100%. Because the field is smaller and runners are faster you don't always have time to shuffle shuffle. Especially if the ball isn't hit very hard. If you're coming in on it grab it and get rid of it baby! I gota make some more in fielding video's these are my favorite! Good luck out there!

    On the small fields at age 11-12, 3b and SS can only get 1 shuffle usually on 60'-70' bases,

  • @247BaseballOnline
    @247BaseballOnline6 жыл бұрын

    100% right. Even on a big field if the ball gets to you slow and the runner is fast, no time to shuffle shuffle. This play is probably more for when the ball gets there quick and we have " all the time in the world " and just can't make a bad throw.

    #5 - Miss off the end of bat. Can't reach it. Either from bad pitch selection or pulling off the ball.

  • @247BaseballOnline
    @247BaseballOnline6 жыл бұрын

    Maybe there is a 5th! I think though in my head that might fall under the "early" miss. In a sense that maybe I couldn't reach because it was too far out in front at contact, letting the ball get deeper allows you to reach pitches farther outside the strike zone.

    I'm not sure I follow your idea of different swings. That sounds very old school listening to an old hitting coach talk about having to memorize each players swing...maybe their style, but the swing is just about the same on each player. Hitting the inside part of the ball? I get the swing thought, but actually hitting the inside of the baseball is near impossible, unless you hit it off the end of the bat and get one of those spinning top type hits. I hear the majority of people talk about keeping the hands inside the ball, but the hands will always end up inside of the ball even if you hit around the ball, or the hitter will get hit in the wrist or hands. I understand your talk on swing thoughts and what you are thinking as opposed to what you are really doing, but you make it sound like you do this which will confuse younger players. Hitting the outside, top of the ball? Oh, to create ground balls pulled to the left side. Btw, Ted Williams did not say swing level...or as he would actually ask it, level to what? He preached to swing level to the ball meaning that the ball traveled in a downward path and the bat would travel at a slightly upward path-slightly upward swing. Good luck to ya

  • @247BaseballOnline
    @247BaseballOnline6 жыл бұрын

    I think people learn differently. So I like to take more of a "feel" approach when I teach hitting. I understand that when I say to a player "get on top of the ball!" I don't really want him to pound the ball in the ground, but sometimes those words work for him and able him to "level" out his swing, he was probably had a big uppercut. I never really loved the term "level" but again, I think different words work for different hitters when you're trying to make adjustments to their swing. Maybe I'm old school, and maybe I like it ; ) I appreciate the comments though bro. Good luck out there.

  • @richlovell-thebaseballbarn1008
    @richlovell-thebaseballbarn10087 жыл бұрын

    One of the better explanations I have heard, but I would add, or at least get your input on these observations; I don't believe you have different swings for pitch locations, but different release points of the bat, much like exits on a highway. If you record your swing and review, I think you will find that you still get in the same positions at Launch, Approach, Contact and Power-V/Extension. The only difference is how far your hips turn and where the bat releases dependent on the pitch location. I would also ask this question-where is your maximum bat speed? I originally thought you were going to talk about hitting an outside pitch near the back point of the plate. If you think about where you achieve maximum bat speed, it is near the front part of your lead foot, so wouldn't this be where you hit the outside pitch, but on the outside corner? Letting it travel farther means you would not reach maximum bat speed and not launch the ball as far, but I am not saying you hit it our in front of your front foot on an outside pitch. I still like your video though. Good info, good stuff. Congrats and good luck.

  • @247BaseballOnline

    If we're ahead in the count taking an aggressive hack we'll move all the contact points up and hit an outside pitch out in front more than what is being demonstrated here. And in contrast if we're working a pitcher from behind in the count we might move those contact points back even more to adjust to breaking balls. But if you're taking hacks then by all means!

  • @247BaseballOnline
    @247BaseballOnline6 жыл бұрын

    I like that a lot as well. We try to let the kids know that the players batting "stances" are just starting points once they hit he end of their load they all look the same, then again at contact.
